Have you tried Sri Lankan food before? If you have, what's your favourite Sri Lankan dish? We absolutely love the lamprais and egg hoppers, definitely a must-have! 😍
Sorry guys what you had was nothing close to a authentic Lamprais.. That’s a sorry excuse of a massive rice and curry pack wrapped in a banana leaf.. Surprising you couldn’t find real Lamprais with a well established Dutch Burgher community in Melbourne
@@jayf4005 it’s not that we couldn’t find it. We need to explore more restaurants. As the title suggests, this is our first time trying Sri Lankan food. There are many more Sri Lankan restaurants to discover in Melbourne. In this video we have only visited three restaurants in Glen Waverley. In Melbourne there are hundreds of suburbs, it will take time to find and ask around what you call an authentic lamprais. If you know what an authentic one should look like, and have a place selling it here in Melbourne, please let us know 😊
Yuum! My partner is Sri Lankan, yesterday we went to his brother's place and had stringhoppers, chicken curry and mackeral curry with homemade pol sambol and also seeni sambol which is the onion one. Hoppers are my favourite, especially with a curry such as black pork curry, SO good. One of my other favourites is the eggplant that Peter loved, my mother-in-law used to make a really good one. There are some places on Centre Road Clayton that you could try in the future, one is a grocer that sells ready to eat food as well called Cakepoint, you can get stringhoppers as well as hot food like pan rolls to take away. There are also a couple of small Sri Lankan restaurants in the same strip.
We need to try Sri Lankan curry next time! Oh yes we had the seeni sambol too in the lamprais. How good is that eggplant dish 😍 We’ll check out Centre Rd In Clayton one day. Thanks for the suggestion ❤️
Discovered Kottu a couple of years ago through a Sri Lankan friend and it's become one of my go to comfort foods; it's an incredibly underappreciated dish.
Great video guys. Sri Lankan food is underrated in my opinion and definitely deserves more attention. My favourite is kottu! :) By the way, hoppers are usually served for dinner in Sri Lankan restaurants both in Sri Lanka and overseas.
Thanks so much for watching! Ah I see! That’s what we read from online articles too, no wonder most of the restaurants serve it during dinner time here. The egg hoppers are so perfect for breakfast though! 😆

It is so great to see you out and about!! Good to see you guys are no longer on lockdown. Sri Lankan food looks so good. Watching your videos early Sunday morning always makes me so hungry. I would be so lost on how to eat this. Good thing we have your videos to show us. That deep fried chicken is totally something I would really like!!! Holy cow the portion is huge!!! We have spent a lot of time eating at random parks during this weird time.
Haha hope you had some delicious food after watching thia video 😃 We were lost a bit on how to eat the food especially the stringhoppers, glad the owner came to explain to us. Looks like eating at random park is still a trend for take out food, especially we’re approaching summer now 😄
We call the onion thing u got with coconut roti is "lunu miris" and u have to kind of mix the string hoppers the gravy and the pol sambol together with your hand. And jagery is made of honey take from a tree called "kithul" I dunno about their in australia though. And 12:26 It's a "kunisso sambol" which is made of coconut and a small shrimp called "kunisso". And the other one is brinjal moju. One of most common dishes which we all crave for😍
We've never tried Sri Lankan food. I don't know that is available here in Chicago. The coconut gravy and sambal sound amazing, loving all the colors on these dishes. The deviled chicken looks intense. Glad to know it's not as spicy. 🥵
You should also try "Lunu Miris" with hoppers. There are hundreds of curry combinations available for String Hoppers. Also, String Hopper Koththu, Bread Koththu, Dolphin Koththu, Cheese Koththu 😄 are some popular variants. And all of them are so delicious 🔥🍴👌. Thank you for trying Sri Lankan Food. 😍😍
I don't know much about Sri Lankan food so this was a very interesting video to watch! I really want to try some of these dishes now. The string hoppers and the devilled chicken look delicious 😋
I love the sweet Hoppers 😍and wow that Kottu Roti sounds delicious! Because of the way the roti is broken up, it looks so similar to nasi/mee goreng :O
Haha yup the kottu roti reminds us of the nasi or mee goreng, maybe the closest one is the flat rice one like char kway teow 😄 I agree, I think we enjoy more of the sweet hoppers than the savoury ones!
Thank you both of you bringing Sri Lankan food out to world. There are some unique Sri Lankan foods you can try of. They are mostly mains and curries not fast foods. We welcome you to Sri Lanka and try ❤
Wow you guys tried so many dishes! Must be hard to choose haha! The stringhoppers is definitely very interesting, with so many things to go along. Good to have someone to explain how to eat it, I'd probably do it wrongly haha!
We had to stick to 8 dishes only in this video even though we wanted to try everything 😅, otherwise we would blow out the budget 😆 You’re right, the stringhoppers is good to pair with any dish, especially curry that we didn’t get 🥲 Next time we should order some Sri Lankan curries!
Spicy flames are really good for quality by even Sri Lankan standards. Their Lamprais was the best I had in a very long time, usually restaurants don’t put that much effort into their lamprais.
There are different variants of hoppers as well! We have honey hoppers and milk hoppers which are also great sweet hoppers and tastes super yum too! And the plain hoppers are heavenly with seeni sambol (caramalized onions). And the string hoppers are usually really good with some spicy curries too with pol sambol and seeni sambol. You guys should also try the Sri Lankan biscuit pudding for dessert as that’s really good too.
Guys lamprais is cooking with coconut milk but for biriyani we don’t use coconut milk.taste is a little bit similar but the style of cooking is different.🥰🥰I really love your programme.❤️
Nice to see you guys in Srilankan restaurant in Melbourne. yes you are correct 13.55 . normally we are eating Hoppers for dinner , breakfast or with evening Tea. 💓💓

Which is the truest form of (Ceylon) Cinnamon so technically not a Indian Spice but a Sri Lankan spice.
