Hey Luke there‘s an interesting fact about Kavum. It‘s told that in the ancient times in Sri Lanka Sri Lankan soldiers carried two bags of Kavum. One with freshly fried ones( these are really high in protein and with 3-4 a day you could fulfill the protein requirement) and the other ones which are fried and kept for 2-3 months to become old. When a soldier gets injured in a battle they tie a Kavum to the wound. It’s said that old Kavum naturally grows penicillin bacteria and the wound won‘t get infected due to that.
Penicillin is an anti-bacterial so no bacteria can grow/multiply when penicillin is around. what penicillin does is, it will prevent the openings a bacteria makes during its multiplication and letting exterior water to seep into the bacteria cell (osmosis) and finally bursting the bacteria cell.

Yea in villages, all of their cooking is done in clay pots, with spoons made out of a piece of wood and coconut shell. Those baskets are made out of palm leaves and they either use banana leaf or lotus leaf to serve rice on.

The colourful lunch with colourful baskets and leafy plates.I liked the real natural food.🥰
I love the fact that all their cooking dishes, plates, cups, utensils are made of biodegradable natural products.
Yea in villages, all of their cooking is done in clay pots, with spoons made out of a piece of wood and coconut shell. Those baskets are made out of palm leaves and they either use banana leaf or lotus leaf to serve rice on.
Village Foods are always ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️...and the farmers are the backbone of world ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
18:56 our elders saying this frequently.but never expect from westerns .
Yes i always tell to my family members also.
What a amazing tropical country!!!! BLESS FROM USA
Sri Lanka is now open for the world if your 2 jabs of vaccine is completed. No more quarantine. Visit Sri Lanka!!
I can't wait to get the vaccine, so that i can travel to Sri Lanka. I just love this country, full of culture and friendly people.
is this true information??
But on the UK gov website Sri Lanka is still on the red list… 💔😔 I don’t know for other countries. But it says UK nationals/residents must not travel to red list countries only Amber and green list countries.. waiting for everything to get better in Sri Lanka 🙏🏽🇱🇰 We miss our family a lot..
@@AyeshaSandagiri I hope so 🙏🏽 but I’m not sure, I’ve heard this also but I’ve also heard that still you need to quarantine for 10 days on arrival in Sri Lanka regardless if you are fully vaccinated . 🤷🏼♀️ Confusing.
@@anjali.raventra sure just contact when you land...hope to serve best and travel super super destinations 🤩🤩
OMG serving food in leaf is absolutely amazing...love to see and have that one
Wow, very similar to South Indian cuisine,
Simple delicious & healthy 👏👏👏
Yep Sri Lanka and South India (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) are very similar.
Mouth watering lunch. And, it mixed with the love and affection of the people. See their smile! It's well-known that the Sri Lankans tend to be noticeably hospitable and welcoming when having guests.
Great work!
The cookies are called “Rosette’s” here in the USA
It's called Kokis, not cookies. I didn't knew what you guys call it in USA. Good to know.
@@Leogoz It is considered a type of a cookie like fritter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosette_(cookie)
The original recipe for Kokis came to Sri Lanka with the Dutch, several centuries back. Perhaps the Dutch settlers brought it to the USA too?
Yup I heard that. Many countries have this
@@shamaliwije4872 that could be! ♥️
I’m a Sri Lankan living in US. I couldn’t go home for 2 and a half years. I could taste the food with each bite you took. Thank you for taking me back there. I really miss home.

Luke, you're lucky, those are pure authentic village food that you'll never have in hotels in cities in Sri Lanka, and the way they are making is very unique.
Thank you for sharing amazing stuff about Srilanka.. hope many more of you will visit our beautiful country soon.. finally a good message "do not waste a single drop of rice". Thats what our parents taught us. We know how hard and sacred the paddy is. Much love ❤️
1:17 she prayed/thanked God for the food.
I would not mind to be there & eat that kind of their food, it’s my type similar with Filipino dishes, very traditional. ❤️ thank you for sharing!

06:18 Very much similarity with indonesia, even the crunchy fried rice cookist, we have seen there many. Cake mold like a flower print
Kokis derives from scandinavian fried rosset cookies. Its there in Sri Lanka, India and many other asian countries.
