  • Returning to one of our most memorable interviews, we curate the unaired perspectives of Dr. D David Schultz on getting heel "heat", taking the fall for scandals, and the possibility of reconciling with John Stossel and Vince McMahon.
From the creators of the hit VICE TV show "Dark Side of the Ring" and the co-hosts of The Lapsed Fan wrestling podcast, this is "Dark Side of the Ring: Unheard." This podcast dives into the show’s deep reservoir of unaired interviews with pro wrestling’s most famous and infamous, its least and most heralded, its most honest and of course, its most duplicitous.

Dr. D was blackballed for protecting the business, plain and simple. Vince made billions off that slap whether he admits it or not.

Lol no one with half a brain believes that slap made billions. You're claiming he's responsible for every cent McMahon ever made in the business. I think there were a few more important people and events to say the least.

What I don’t get is why Vince’s competition went along with it

It is just so fascinating than episode focused on this 10 or 15 second clip happened in the first place. It was engrossing to heat the trials and hoops you guys had to go just to get to the guy's property, lol.
That clip is just so iconic. I recall seeing the clip so many years ago and being shocked and amused at that slap.
    "You think this fake?!" *smack*

Tough guy but not even in the top 50 if we're talking the best.

The thing is he was not the toughest man in wrestling . What made people think he was is that everyone backed away . He is excellent at convincing you that he is dangerous and will act quickly once his mind is made up . He has a reputation but no one has seen him in action . I have no idea if he is truly as fierce and capable as he portrays himself but he is convincing enough that I wouldn’t try him . He is in my head . Thats some Sun Tzu tactic right there . I have heard him say he didn’t know if he was the toughest guy in wrestling but that he fears no one . That I am sure of ….whether its true or not

Not exactly . Stone Cold was taken from Richard Kuklinski , the Ice Man . Kuklinski , a serial killer , is a notorious study in sociopathy . Austin from Texas played a Southern Sociopath . It is coincidental to Hillbilly A$$hole that they have a bit of overlap

David was not thinking . If he had he would have recognized himself being a sacrificial lamb . He was eager to prove himself and ket it cloud his better judgement . This time was Schultz’s best shot at being a big name . He was known but not a big timer . He was a good hand . He was finally in a big promotion . The second biggest in the world ( All Japan at this time was still the best performing promotion though not for much longer) So he wanted to prove to Vince he could be counted on .

I never watch the episodes, but I like hearing guys talk about it. More organic, less programming. If you don’t want to print money by giving Cornette a writing credit and actually making a show called Territories, then just stop backlighting jabronis stuck in the shadow realm like these people don’t deserve an actual reenactment
