I literally have a hard time believing what these guys do in the stage. They are so perfect playing all those complex rhythms, to me it is actually scary to see this level of performance, doesn't even look human.
The fact that Bleed is the 2nd last song on the set is mind-blowing. I play the 5min shortened version of it and I feel like my legs are about to fall off; but here's Meshuggah nearly an hour into the concert blasting Bleed like it ain't no thing.
@@jessebrown9624 Demiurge is one of their easiest songs to play on drums, honestly. Lethargica and Demiurge are probably the best bookends for bleed they could pick!

The band that can do no wrong. There is only one constant in my life and it's that no matter what I'm going through, I can always, always count on Meshuggah to churn out this deranged head-caving music. I always go through cycles after not hearing the band for a while and I think, 'are they really as great as I constantly chalk them up to be? Do I put them on too high of a pedestal?' and then I hear or see something that reaffirms tenfold their magnificence while I feel like I've been punished for faltering and doubting for even a single second
I first saw them in 95 supporting Machine Head in a hall with about 30 folk as they were first on. Me and my mate watched the whole thing mesmerised, blown away. They haven't dissapointed since.
How on earth can a band play this tight? Everyone is just totally locked in. Almost. The. Whole. Time. Even the lights! I'm completely amazed by it. Probably some of the best concert footage I've ever seen.
“First of all, we’re very sorry for creating that genre; we didn’t intend to - our bad. No, but it’s actually - I think it’s a misconception, that djent thing. I think it’s kind of hilarious,” explained rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström. “It’s our lead guitar player, Fredrik [Thordendal], being drunk back in the day, talking to one of our old-school fans, trying to explain what type of guitar tone we were always trying to get, and he was desperately trying to say, ‘We want that ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_.'” “And that guy was, like, ‘What’s he saying? Is that a Swedish word? Must be. Sounds like dj_, maybe ‘djent’? Maybe something like that.’ And that’s where it comes from. A drunk misunderstanding, as always with Meshuggah.” When asked in regards to what sort of music that Meshuggah do play, Hagström described their sound as “heavy, experimental music”. I LOVE THIS GUYS SO MUCH
Jens sounds better live than in studio at 53 years old?? Insane. Of course the band is technically perfect. Gives me goosebumps, the whole thing. The Hurt That Finds You First has been on repeat every chance I get to hear it.
Hands down one of the greatest metal bands of all time!!! I can't think of another band that actually fights off their level of musical complexity and heaviness. Their live performances are fucking unparalleled!
this is not a band... this is a reaction to this miserable existence.... and as i find out, this is the sound of my own shredded soul....this magical experience called mesuggah is a living embodiment of reality
Was about to comment saying the same thing!! My god. I've heard other bands who I love but the vox don't always survive in tact over the years. (no names need be mentioned) But these guys, killing it for 30 years and we get a new album this year!!!! best band ever. :)
I totally I agree. I wonder if they know. So much of their stuff is just 100% punishing or like an atonal solo/interlude. Which I love. But I actually think the fact that they don't let a song breath like that more often hurts them rather than helps them. It's a hopeful moment while still being rhythmically interesting. I wish they'd do it more.
Future Breed Machine overall has to be one of the most innovative and influential metal tracks of all time. It's so ridiculously far ahead of its' time - it still sounds fresh 30 years on.

the band that delivers one of the most entertaining and brutal live shows. They know well how to transport their audience to a polyrhythmic universe. A unique sound
The Lethargica solo into the drop had me in tears for some reason that I cannot explain. Greatest metal band of all time imho. The amount of sheer talent and raw primal power never leaves me in awe. Long live Meshuggah!
This shit sounds completely unlike anything else on earth, even within the genre. It sounds almost alien. It’s incredible. Most unique band since Black Sabbath imo.
It is way slower than the original track. They always said that they think that Lethargica was recorded too fast originally but live it gets slower and slower and this version (2019 tour) is IMO simply amazing
Meshuggah was sitting in my music library for over 20 years - mostly unlistened. I always had the feeling there is something special to this music but never managed to dig below the surface. I finaly saw them live in Vienna this year for the first time - I can't get enough since! To say it with the words of bill burr - a truly life-altering experience.
I know what you mean. They don't just come to you, you gotta get in, immerse, lose yourself, and then the thing clicks. Took me years too. I'm going to see them live next month. Joined in late, but I don't feel like I missed out, they're still at the top of their game.
Dude.. Future Breed Machine knocked me on my ass. This is my favorite version of this song I've ever heard. It's literally perfect. I couldn't stop moving.
That Lethargica breakdown is LITERALLY the greasiest breakdown ever. I swear. And Lethargica is one of Meshuggahs top underrated tracks as well as my personal favorite.
That Future Breed Machine performance at 24:42 gives me fucking goosebumps. Meshuggah are so tight, on records and live shows its unbelievable. Their stuff sounds so fucking gargantuan.
One of the best definitions I ever read about Meshuggah. Their blend of Metal, avantgarde and Allan Holdsworth (thanks to Thordendal) is a cornerstone in modern music. They were able to make "popular" (well, they have millions wiews) such an incredibly complex and articulated formula.
Yesvi would like ten string guitsat ot nine string if even tekevan eight string at this point… got sn banex 7string snd i love that but need more strings and ZloWEZr D.eEPER!!!!!!!
Blasted on booze, 50mg edibles, and a nicotine high, Demiurge was an absolutely life-changing experience live. "Terror rising. Agnostics nemesis. A prophet of extinction" I lost my mind, separated from my body, the gravity turned off, and I was transported to another another dimension. Thousands of people in that room but I was the only one there. I will NEVER forget that moment. Thank you Meshuggah!
I saw them open for Tool in the early 2000s. My friends and I thought there was a war going on in the arena. We were terrified and mesmerized! I have been an unwavering fan ever since that day!
I saw them on that tour as well. At the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. It was incredible. Then saw them again at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA. I think Animals as Leaders opened up for them. The mix and overall clarity of the sound was the most impressive I've heard up to now. I recently saw them at the Palladium, in Hollywood, Ca. Unfortunately, the sound was horrible. I don't understand how that happens. I was so disappointed at the quality of the mix... But God do I love this band!
I was actually there. It was incredible. Perfect performance, tight sound, matching lighting. Best performance I´ve ever seen, though I was never a die-hard Meshuggah fan

I'm convinced he's not human. I saw them a few days ago in NYC and I was absolutely floored by his performance. It was during The Hurt That Finds You First that I just started laughing because his vocals were just relentless. No sign of strain or wear out. He does this day after day. It's almost unbelievable. hehe, nothing, I see what you did..
That intro isn't prerecorded it's just the space ship dropping them off
I literally have a hard time believing what these guys do in the stage. They are so perfect playing all those complex rhythms, to me it is actually scary to see this level of performance, doesn't even look human.
If you're into this, and don't know them already, you might like "Animals as Leaders" and "Car Bomb".

You mean...these gods are the true gods?
The fact that Bleed is the 2nd last song on the set is mind-blowing. I play the 5min shortened version of it and I feel like my legs are about to fall off; but here's Meshuggah nearly an hour into the concert blasting Bleed like it ain't no thing.
And to think that they would have not recorded it had Tomas not pulled it off...
That why a slow song like Lethargica is played right before it.
@@NikkLiberos I bet Tomas' legs felt like jello when he played demiurge 😅 probably wished bleed was the last song!
@@jessebrown9624 Demiurge is one of their easiest songs to play on drums, honestly. Lethargica and Demiurge are probably the best bookends for bleed they could pick!
Guess Thomas must be warm by now
Gotta give Per Nilsson some big time appreciation here. Filling Thordendal's shoes on tour is an impossible ask, and he did a damn close job. Hats off brotha.
Per Nilsson is very underrated imho. The fact that he replaced a Meshuggah member on tour speaks volumes about his abilities.
I agree impossible task. However, I listened to a '22 show and it just didn't sound the same.
@@amithpandit4043 I've seen his solo stuff and his time in Scar Symmetry, he's honestly fucking incredible. The lead melodies he wrote in SS are probably the most satisfying things to land on my eardrums

It's on my bucket list to die at one of their shows
The band that can do no wrong.
You can ALWAYS count on Meshuggah!!!
What James Joyce did you plagiarize that from? It's beautiful.
I first saw them in 95 supporting Machine Head in a hall with about 30 folk as they were first on. Me and my mate watched the whole thing mesmerised, blown away. They haven't dissapointed since.
"Deranged head-caving music" is probably the best description of this amazing band I've ever read.
You deserve that punishment for doubting even for a second!!!

How on earth can a band play this tight? Everyone is just totally locked in. Almost. The. Whole. Time. Even the lights! I'm completely amazed by it. Probably some of the best concert footage I've ever seen.
They are pretty humble too. I heard an interview where they said they just merely play the songs how they are meant to be played
yea they are crazy good live
They have a lighting guy who plays the lights. There is a pretty cool video on that, look it up. It's dope.
Tight even with a replacement lead guitarist
Um, foot pedals and other gear that you cannot see from the audience, even Rush played like that in sequence and the audio master helps it along.
ladies and gentlemen… the undisputed, undefeated, heaviest band in the world.
“First of all, we’re very sorry for creating that genre; we didn’t intend to - our bad. No, but it’s actually - I think it’s a misconception, that djent thing. I think it’s kind of hilarious,” explained rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström.
“It’s our lead guitar player, Fredrik [Thordendal], being drunk back in the day, talking to one of our old-school fans, trying to explain what type of guitar tone we were always trying to get, and he was desperately trying to say, ‘We want that ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_,’ ‘dj_.'”
“And that guy was, like, ‘What’s he saying? Is that a Swedish word? Must be. Sounds like dj_, maybe ‘djent’? Maybe something like that.’ And that’s where it comes from. A drunk misunderstanding, as always with Meshuggah.”
When asked in regards to what sort of music that Meshuggah do play, Hagström described their sound as “heavy, experimental music”.

Hey me too!
@@Ross-ng4xl the end section of the hurt that finds you first is a good example of letting the song breathe a bit

Future Breed Machine overall has to be one of the most innovative and influential metal tracks of all time. It's so ridiculously far ahead of its' time - it still sounds fresh 30 years on.
Pretty standard breakdown till you realize that song came out a full decade before other people really started doing that
