I think I broke it...you use the enchantment Mortuary which says "When a creature is put into your graveyard, put that card on the top of your library." You use it to reuse your creatures since you can stack the death triggers to draw the creature you blitz and it works sneakily well with Solemn Simulacrum (if you've cast Henzie 4 times) and Pitiless Plunderer and obviously a sac outlet to make infinite mana, ramp, and draw til you can find a drain outlet (or say something like Altar of the Brood if you want to sprinkle a little salt in there) and another artifact creature to sac to not deck out. Have fun.
What a unique deck idea! I feel like this is the kind of deck where cards that evade commander tax like netherbound altar and myth unbound really reach their full potential, if you want to be sacrificing and recasting Henzie multiple times.
Turns out it doesn't work as it is worded There is a great video from a judge who explains the problem with this card. Search for "DDR#424 - Does Henzie "Toolbox" Torre Work?"
“Most decks might go in this other direction” I think most people are trying to abuse the cost reduction. EVERY vid I’ve seen on Henzie seems to zero in on it, when I am pretty confident that using him to get super efficient ETBs, cast, and dies triggers as cantrips is the way. Vindictive Lich, Neon Dynasty dragons, Druid of Purification, etc.
@TFAegislash 57 Same here, plus good dies triggers and ETBs. Protean Hulk can either be an excellent tutor or an instant win card depending on how you build your deck, Birthing Pod is crazy good, Daemogoth Woe-Eater is crazy, etc. Loving this deck so far.
There are a LOT of strategies that can be built around this creature with a LOT of creatures benefiting from reduced costs, haste or the sacrifice clause of Blitz, let alone creatures that can benefit from any combination of them. Wood elves becoming a Nature's Lore that also swings came ti mind among others upon seeing this card. Lots of build flexibility while being both strong and fair. I like it!
I'm pretty sure that Henzie only reduces the blitz cost for creatures which is their mana cost so wouldn't using discount effects like umori not work since it doesn't impact the mana cost of the creatures? edit: this comment is wrong. It works as advertised
Here's another quick way to break it and make the blitz cost basically nonexistent. Dockside/Teemur sabertooth loop for infinite mana, then start bouncing henzie back and forth with all that mana for infinite cost reduction on blitz.
Heh, you reminded me of an Oathbreaker deck I made. It had Tezzert, Master of the Bridge, and the way it won was having enough Affinity to cast Ancestral statue for free, which I would do with a Bontu's Monument out, which kills the table. That combo is in this deck. :D
I built a presist henzie version it was fun dropping hearltess summon + henzie (being casted twice) made everything cost 4 less but decided to go back to beatdown version since i dropped mike ball to much and my play group started to hate it
I had a Godzilla, KOTM deck built around various strategies I saw like power matters and 4+cmc and sneak attack. I am so unbelievably excited for this commander. I can't wait to jam out big monsters for way too cheap and swing in
How to go infinite; commander, circuit mender, pitiless Plunderer or carnival od souks, a free sacrifice outlet, and veinwitch coven. Run down; blitz in circuit mender, sacrifice before the life gain, use treasure from Plunderer to play for coven, repeat to draw deck and gain loads of life
@@baconsir1159 true but I want to include the commander in the combo, and this is something I thought of off the top of my head, didn't think of protean hulk
i think you meant to say like how yuriko has commander *ninjutsu* but yeah i agree. would definitely make it a LOT more powerful than it already is, maybe even too powerful. because with yuriko, the commander tax doesn't apply to her ninjutsu cost. so with casting henzie every turn cycle for that same alt cost every time, you'd be able to cheat out some massive creatures for 1 or 2, hell even free with colorless creatures, fairly consistently into the mid/late game. so i understand why they didn't, but would've been hella cool if they did.
I don’t understand how Ezzaroot would reduce Blitz cost. Blitz is an alternative casting cost and doesn’t work with anything that changes the cost. Goblin Anarchomancer is another example of a similar card that wouldn’t work as you described.
If a creature spell is in the graveyard, can I blitz it from the graveyard using Henzie’s toolbox effect? My buddy’s been doing this during our commander games
Yeah I really don’t think this works with cost reducers. Costing less to cast doesn’t change mana value, like how something with Delve makes it less to cast but retains its original mana value.
the card doesn't reduce the mana value. It specifically says "BLITZ costs you pay cost (1) less for each..." Nothing changes the mana value, just lowers the blitz cost that was based on the mana value.
That's way to many hoops to jump through. Feel free to build this deck, but dont be disappointed if it only works out like that every 15th game or so. What I dislike about Mitch's deck techs is that he pretends you are the only one playing commander and everyone is just as excited as you to see your combos going off. In an actual game, by the time you would recast him the fourth time and still hope to draw your sac outlet, someone else probably already ran away with the game. Mitch keeps telling that those decks he builds are insanely good in a think-out-of-the-box way, but I really start to wonder if he ever actually plays them. because they usually shouldnt work.
@@xdlamaoxdlmaoxd9600 Please read carefully. The second part is a general issue I have. Also, same logic - why, would he show us a deck and claim its broken, if the commander isnt out yet?
as far as I can tell the reason he hasn’t mentioned interaction or effecting other players is because those are commonly understood to be needed so he focuses o n the strategy in the spoiler reviews. Also in his deck tracks he does always include interaction
Bontu's monument would fit too your casting thous cards so the oppents lose life you gain life for each spell and psychosis crawler will ping for each card you draw a card. Garna + sir konrad of the grim to super slam ea h oppent for all that return form the grave
Does a blink effect cast on a blitzed creature remove its sacrifice at the beginning of the end step clause? If so does it mean it also removes the clause for haste and "when this creature dies draw a card" too? I had tried to upgrade my precon to add sword of hearth and home which has a blink effect but not sure how that will play on a blitzed creature
I thought that the way a spell is cast is you put it on the stack and then determine if you want to pay the blitz cost or not and so spells that have their cost reduced to below 4 won't be able to be blitzed via your commander. I may be wrong though but I don't think this affinity or cost reduction idea will work.
Henzie only cares about mana value, which is the cost printed on the card itself, not what you would pay for it. So long as the cost as its printed is 4 or more, you can blitz them. Doesnt matter what you pay
Henzie would be pretty bad if he was reducing the blitz cost to the point it was under 4 and you couldn't blitz anything. Wouldn't really make much sense would it?
Does this get around commander tax for your commanders since blitz is an alternate cost? It doesn't say from hand. So could you cast your commander for it's blitz, sac it and then the next turn it would cost one less to blits out? I'm thinking if Thai is in your 99 not your commander
Henzie doesnt have blitz himself, but even if he did Blitz and other alternate casting costs still have the commander tax applied. Commander Tax applies anytime you try to cast from the command zone, regardless of the method you use to cast it. The only way to get around commander tax would be to have an ability like "Pay Something: Put [Card Name] onto the battlefield from the commander zone" because it isnt technically casting it, you're putting it onto the battlefield with an ability
Helm of the hero or some sort of copy effect and then your commander is above four to cast after first death bouncy bouncy sack sack anything you like is a free cast break every 20 mana cost creature! Hello ban list!
Extra turn spells plus spell recursion seems like an obnoxious way to win games. Edit: Mistook the thumbnail for the grixis dude for some reason. Don't mind me.

Mikaeus the unhallowed is so good here, or any persist effect for that matter.
Because of the trigger at the end of the next end step ?

Blitz is an alternate casting cost and can be reduced through "Costs X less to cast effects"
Love the idea of the deck! I blame Eddie for not showing you the card Myth Unbound though. It would be PERFECT in this deck.
This would work really well with that other new card Ognis, the dragons lash.
Unfortunately it doesn't. His ability doesn't give haste because they fucked up the wording
Here's another quick way to break it and make the blitz cost basically nonexistent. Dockside/Teemur sabertooth loop for infinite mana, then start bouncing henzie back and forth with all that mana for infinite cost reduction on blitz.
He has to be cast from the command zone, so you need a sac outlet too

If you have a deck that's dargo and reyhan, you can do a combo where you play dargo infinitely, then just blitz out free eldrazi
