    honestly tysm for not treating "VSCO girl" like an inherently bad or stupid thing. Every girl I know seems to be in a panic to change the way they dress/act so as to not seem like a VSCO girl, and it's honestly so sad. I'm all for the jokes, but I get so sick of people who legitimately try to shame people for being whatever society randomly decides is "basic".

      @Tricia R. While I agree with this comment, saying the VSCO girls all seem so nice is also a stretch... The most recognizable or "famous" VSCO girls are in fact very mean and/or arguably bad examples. Ex: Summer McKeen, Emma Chamberlain. Let's just not generalize at all: saying they are bad simply because of how they dress or that they're nice and wholesome. People are individual, their style has nothing to do with how good or bad they are, period.

    I'm only 10 minutes in but can I just say I'm SO SURPRISED at how religious these girls seem to be? Like I didn't realize that VSCO was a Christian thing? Nothing wrong with religion, of course (even if I'm not that religious) but so many of these girls have bibles and such? I just didn't expect that! Learn something new every day. I noticed this about the same time you do.

      I was pleasantly surprised that she didn’t say “I just had to give up on this book because it was too religious.” The beauty of C.S. Lewis’ writings is that even if you don’t have a common faith basis, you still can find yourself nodding your head, and thinking “yeah, I never thought of it that way, but it’s so true!”

  • @elisabethdudziak7704

    Hey Lala, thought I’d bring you an interesting and kinda funny piece of info I’ve noticed. So I am a Christian and have been in a Christian circle with a lot of Christian friends for most of my life, but I’ve found that- and Idk if it’s just my area (California)- a LOT of my Christian friends, and me :/ could all be classified as “VSCO” girls. It’s just kind of weird and I agree completely, there is actually a lot of religion tied in with the whole vsco girl vibe. I know that my friends and I in high school always wore the classic vsco girl baggy shirts to cover our short shorts or leggings which were sorta frowned on because our butts “made the boys stumble ://“ I know.. stupid. We weren’t really supposed to wear them at all. and we made the pooka shells and friendship bracelets and got stickers from retreats and mission trips and stuff. Hydros were an easy anchor to make the bracelets so we left them on and carried our water bottles around all day because we’d get thirsty going from school to some after school activity to church that night. I was also taught that a more “natural” and light makeup look was “better” because it was the way god made us... now trust me. The things that I agree with are the things actually said in the Bible... not some arbitrary stupid rules about “keep your shorts mid thigh please” or “a nude lip is more holy than a red”. But my friends (the girls) and I really just tried to push those arbitrary boundaries a little bit and that’s sorta how we all ended up with the vsco girl “aesthetic”. I’m not sure if the trend originated first or vice versa, but it seemed like a pretty seamless time to me. So I guess long story short, I think your comment about there being a lot of religion tied up with vsco girls is SPOT ON. We, my friends and i at least, were just trying to push the “church rules” a little while still pretty much following them. It kinda puts a different light on the vsco girl internet thing and brings some real cultural significance to it, despite how dumb it may seem on the outside.

    • @kathleenh2782
      @kathleenh2782 4 роки тому +2

      amen sis!! as another Christian girl i agree with the fact vsco girls are more rooted in religion because of the arbitrary rules we've had to follow our entire lives. it's a way to rebel without getting in trouble, pushing the envelope just a tiny bit so we could feel more free. wish it wasn't still like that but it really is.

    • @elisabethdudziak7704
      @elisabethdudziak7704 4 роки тому +2

      the graceful doot Girl same. I love my faith and will never give it up for anything but it can be soo hard sometimes to balance what I truly believe with what the particular church you are with believes, and knowing where that line is.

    • @taylorgayhart9497
      @taylorgayhart9497 2 роки тому +1

      It’s funny because I am a lot older than you but we still had the same “aesthetic” in high school, but it was more of “girl jocks” vibe. We wore minimal makeup and comfy clothes because we played sports right after school, and carried jugs of water around because we were always hot and thirsty from running around. But we would also try to girl it up with colorful hair ties and accessories, and even had the shell necklaces too but I blame that on living in Florida! Lol

    Your talk about young readers really makes me want to start some form of book social media. Especially to encourage both reading and writing. There’s certain videos that like to criticize writing sites and it really rubs me the wrong way because many of these sites are predominantly younger people just sharing their writing. • @esmeraldavanwildernis1440
    @esmeraldavanwildernis1440 5 років тому +2

    What I learned from this video:
    - what a VSCO girl is
    - that I should really buy some hair scrunchies #90sgirl
    Questions though :
    - Do hair scrunchies stay in thick hair or do I need to put a normal hair tie in first?
    - is a hydro flask just a fancy name for a water bottle or does it need to have certain qualities like keeping the water cool?
    Such a fun video! Hadn't even noticed it's been an hour🙈

    I can't believe I stayed up a full hour when I had intended to watch one or two 10 minute videos before bed. This was so worth it, the entire experience was a wild ride and I was entertained the entire time. Please DO keep up the doing other things when you do the "read as" vlogs. It added so much to this without taking any attention away from the books.

    Normally I watch these long videos in bits, but not this day. I was so intrigued by the explanation of VSCO and I love you don't judge it but just show it. Lewis is one of my favourite theological (and not being that obvious) writers, so I'm excited you gave it a try. He was at first an atheist and became a christian later in life and I think that it is also why he says that he doesn't know it all.
