I am of the Sutherland Clan and proud of it also. Loved the video and would love to be able to visit it but not looking like I'll make it as I'm 77. So at least I got to see it this way. Thanks so much.
I'm just putting together the video for the Falconry display they have there as well, so be sure to subscribe so you can see it this weekend :) I have watched it back about 13 times now and surprisingly have not gotten bored editing the video :)
With prior approval we scattered my wifes Moms ashes here in late April 2019. We then enjoyed 10 pipe bands that play there once a year for a charity. Their encore was Amazing Grace. A very enjoyable yet emotional visit for us--from Ont. Canada. .
Yeah, pretty crazy story about the Navy helping put out the castle fire. They just happened to be in the harbor, and because they treated so many of the Navy men within the castle, they came and helped put out the fire....essentially saving the castle.
It was pretty incredible, how much work goes into keeping up the house. I like the story he told of his daughter growing up there, and how she knew where all the trip wires were so the game of hide and seek was a lot more challenging, lol.
I am also a member of the Clan Sutherland and extremely proud of it. My Grand father George Sutherland was born on 20th November 1878 in the District of Rathven in the County of Banff. His father was James Sutherland and his mother was Ann Sutherland nee Thain also born in the Count of Rathven on 4th November 1839.
This video is great. I visited this beautiful castle in January this year. It was a shame that it was closed to look inside. I got to find out what I needed from this video thank you x
Fancy dusting all that, wow! Gorgeous castle! When Covid-19 has gone into history I am flying from Auckland New Zealand and visit! My husband is a Wemyss and hails from there
Hey there, mrs. Video here :) Wow I love this video. I have been to the castle years ago when I was still little and made lots of pictures. Such a fairytale looking building right?! And such pretty gardens :) Totally forgot the story behind it, thanks for sharing!
It would be great to provide a map. I have a feeling of where this may be, if it’s where the area that Clan Sutherland is from in the north, but it would be nice to know for sure.

We drove 4 hours to visit the castle. It was so worth it. Having visited many château in France I definitely seem the resemblance from both the back of the castle and the gardens. I didnt know about the falling bride to be. Wow.
That castle is absolutely beautiful! I wish my school had looked like that 😂 I'm pretty sure the gold and green bedroom is bigger than my entire first condo! Although, I guess it's literally fit for a queen.
I couldn't believe that the Mistress of the Robes for Queen Victoria lived in this place! I am a super duper fan of the show 'Young Victoria' (with Emily Blunt). I am always entranced by the love story of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

She remet my father, a childhood friend, and married him 1946. I love all things Scottish, especially the plaids.... I was born in 1947.....e
I'm half Scottish and half Dutch, so I completely agree with the slightly unhealthy obsession with all things Scottish. I really want to get a little cottage by a lake in Scotland to be honest. It is a huge dream of mine to move to another country....alas....student loans have me enslaved
Thank you so much for this video I live in America but my family is traced to the Sutherland klan/family I hope to visit Scotland soon with my family it's amazing to think that my family came from this area
Indeed a castle straight out of a fairy tale. I struggled to decide what was more beautiful, the interiors or the sea-view. A bit disappointed to see tiger skin rug in the library, but hunting for fun is a sad part of our history.
Both views were absolutely brilliant! Yes I know, the tiger rug is a bit of a shot to the heart for sure. History and even modern times are full of disappointing things. I think all we can do is hope for the best and try to do better each day.
You should visit Ireland and visit Ashford castle it dates back to 1228 and after as you probably know every master wanted to put their own stamp on it. They also have a falconery and you can walk with them too. It's located in the village Cong on the Mayo/Galway border. Today it is a 5 star hotel and lots of things to see and do in the estate.
I bet! Would love to hear his stories actually. What they studied, how they kept them focused or in-line, was it cold, did their families come to visit?
It truly is an amazing castle and the people there are incredibly friendly! Be sure to catch the falconry display out back! Also, check and make sure they aren't closed - the often close for the winter months.
It does indeed, but I feel like anywhere in the world you look ancient past, 17th, 18th, 19th and even the 20th century - every single one of us has a dubious history. It is always a conundrum of mine, to make the people the castle is giving jobs to now pay for the sins of the past, or appreciate how kind and what a wonderful time I had while I was there. It is a hard decision really. Yet I can walk through a museum like Auschwitz, hate what the Nazi's did, but not hate Germany. I don't know what the answer is....

Did they talk about Alexander Sutherland who's decapitated head was hung on that castle at the highest spot , did they tell you about Alexander's son John who was murdered in the garden of DunRobin Castle ? Did they mention the Highland clearances ?
Nope, nope, nope - I think they are trying to change the rhetoric about the castle and bring it back from the past to a happier future. I'm sure there are plenty of ghost stories that could be told here though. The people were lovely and I had a wonderful time there.
