The Archbishop of Canterbury said Bishop Curry's sermon was one of the greatest and most impactful one's ever heard in the UK in living memory. The Episcopal Church of the United States is lucky to have Michael Curry as our Presiding Bishop.
SNL's costume designers and hair and makeup work fast!! This is why SNL's crew deserves so much more attention and praise! The cast is great, but their performances wouldn't match up were it not for the awesome crew!

Had the pleasure of being an acolyte at an Episcopal church when Curry was the bishop in NC. I was a kid and started sleeping during the service and he very gently and jokingly woke me up saying “I wish I could sleep right now too”
I love this!! I’m Episcopalian and I’ve had a chance to meet him a couple of times. He’s so great.

Freeze Fusion If the FBI harassed MLK and wanted to shut him up due to his civil rights marches, which was an embarrassment to the powers that be, would it be fair to assume that they were also behind his assassination? Trump's anger over the tactics of the FBI is probably rooted in the fear that they could hurt him if he crosses the line.
A well-done bit, but let's keep in mind, Presiding Bishop Curry is the highest authority in the U.S. Episcopal Church. It's more dramatic to pretend he was a small-timer before this, but in reality, he was highly accomplished, recognized, well-traveled, and overall a rock star long before the royal wedding.

Yes, the man has some pretty serious theological training, he's not a street-corner preacher (although he has the energy of a street-corner preacher!)
Maybe some day he can even answer why all angels got free choice of what 'side' to join, in heaven, even in a realm meant to be fully pervaded by the Spirit and presence of that God... yet still rebelled often.
Whilst most humans got NO CHOICE at all, and even got impaired before birth, by what two oddly ignorant Stewards in Eden, ended up, 'choosing' for them?

@@evelynwashere13 I highly disagree. That was EXACTLY the time and place to both give that sermon and to hear it. It was full of scriptural references, it was for the then-royal couple, and applied to everyone who heard it. That everyone was talking about it meant he did it right. Jesus also gave sermons that got everyone talking and upset the establishment. Presiding Bishop Curry was just following in Christ's footsteps.

I know Bishop Curry and he is awesome! He walks around in front of the parishioners and speaks from the heart which is why he spoke for a long time.
I got to hear Bishop Curry preach in 2015 at his installation service at Washington National Cathedral. That man knows how to pilot a pulpit.

I just met him yesterday and got to be at Evening Prayer with him at a small historically Black church in NE Portland on Saturday. It was so cool to be just a few feet away from him and hearing him sing along with us. When I actually got to talk with him, he was most genuine and kind and truly tried to connect with everyone in the receiving line. It was awesome to watch and experience!
Their hair and wardrobe deparrments deserve awards for preparing these outfits so fast.

It’s pretty amazing when the most memorable thing about yesterday’s royal wedding was a preacher and his message on love thy neighbour. That’s a big advance on the last wedding where the only thing anyone talked about was hot a girl’s bottom looked when she bent down. That was creepy, this is beautiful, good on Meghan and Harry.

I guess if love thy neighbor does not include her own family as she did not invite them to her wedding. He kept on with the brotha sista speech should be a hint to Megan to include her own family . Had her relative been black and not invited she would have been lynched. Love is inclusive . Can't unite the world if you can't have peace with your family.

Michael Curry had too much seasoning, the Brits aren't used to too much more than salt and pepper.
Millicent Lopez As a British person, I must say Michael Curry had just enough seasoning for the audience he was preaching to ie cultural Christians and non-Christians. However, his type of sermon (content and delivery wise) is an average one for many of us across the country week in week out. Dynamic preachers are everywhere. I might have dropped in a Hammond organ too. A praise break and an altar call might have been a step too far though.

Um, Presiding Bishop Curry is the leader of the Episcopal Church of America. He is our elected leader and while we have many parishes that are largely African American, we have many that are largely white. We are inclusive to the point of annoying the bejeebers out of other denominations. SNL should have done a bit of research. Presiding Bishop Curry is also a wise and learned theologian. Still it is nice to see a sane Christian depicted anywhere on TV.

Yes his speech was surprisingly long but on the other hand it was surprisingly good. His speech summed up what Christianity is all about and how this loving couple reflect that especially in bringing races together in a more sympathetic way. Usually wedding services by priests are very perfunctory and humdrum but this was anything but, it made everyone think about the more global significance of this event because if someone with clear African blood in her veins can be accepted lovingly into perhaps the most ancient of European monarchies with thousands of years of heritage then it is an example to everyone in the general population of how the human race should progress. Meghan will help ensure the royal family persist as did Princess Diana in her time.

Mark Stanton The royal family had a black African ancestor through Queen Charlotte. Her Portuguese ancestor, from the Sousa family, was black. Well documented. I cannot paste the link but there are portraits and articles online. Her black heritage was honored at the time because of the strong anti-slavery feelings in Britain.
Well at this point we know Markle was a disaster as part of the royal family. She did not have the elegance or class to be a part of the monarchy and always looked out of place.

As a biracial American woman like the Duchess of Sussex, I feel it's quite often misunderstood that by explicitly identifying as biracial, people think,we're trying to deny or downplay our black heritage, which Ms. Markle emphatically disproved on her wedding day by calling on Bishop Curry, a man who obviously utilizes the black preaching tradition. With all the touches she put into her ceremony, she proved she's just as black as white, which is what she's been saying all along.
That's in America, not in the UK. The UK doesn't have the one drop rule mentality. Very few people in Britain are just calling her "black".

The problem is many Americans take the Bible literally. British people only see it as stories and metaphors, not a history book to rule our lives by. Most Brits only go to Church on weddings and funerals. That's why this type of preaching is a novelty in Britain.

It's the wrong crowd when the British are tired of listening about LOVE in 16 minutes.
These people had been up since dawn with the hair and the makeup and the hats and the clothes and then milling around for 90 minutes trying to meet Oprah before the wedding. By the time the sermon started I'm guessing most of them needed to potty, or a snack. Poor Kate prob needed to pump. Good grief. I'm surprised there wasn't a brawl.
I didn't realise he went over his time slot! Who cares! He stole the show and America please believe me, the congregation loved him. I am not a believer, but I have watched this awesome preacher over and over. The choir was fabulous too.😊

Those white people got lucky! They should go to a black church, where a sermon like Bishop Curry's lasts 2 hours.
Exactly when I watched it and seen the english guests laughing, I found it completely disrepectful, church here is an hour plus not 30 minutes, you got the short version. They were extremely rude and disrespectful, they have rules about who bows to, who can enter a door first but laugh at our traditions fuck them.
+Tom Pennock come on man, enough with the screaming in the pulpit. It's all a fucking act that has its roots in slavery, black preachers saw that white masters yelled at slaves to instill fear. Black preachers were taught by their masters the art of control. It's a legacy that the black church has to let go. The stereotype continues to this day.
I was waiting for the ghost of James Brown to come out and preach in front of that gospel choir at the church... "Have you seen the light!?" ;-P

1. "love is strong as death."
2. "we must discover the power of love."
3. "don't underestimate it and don't even over sentimentalize it."
4. "there is power in love, when someone cares for you you know it"
5. "the source of love is God. we must love one another because love is God and those who are born of God knows God and those who do not love do not know God."
6. "there is power in love to show us the way to live."

A wedding is a bigger mass with larger implications than sunday service.... Why on earth would you think that a wedding in a church would be more superficial than Sunday service????!?!?!? Oh come every Sunday and I will preach fire and brimstone for ages but get married and this is all just fun and games and I will just say a short message about nothing at all and complement the bride on how she looks???!?!?!?
People go to sunday mass for worship and prayer. That's not the purpose of a wedding. The wedding service should be short, to the point so that everyone can get on with the actual celebrations.
If you want to listen to some long winded sermon, attend an actual service. There's a time and place for everything. This isnt it
