@@0XIIIIII I did run through it again without the tank gun, just to see if it was the lack of Iron, the game itself or the tank gun that made it so easy. I think it's a little of all 3. Sword + rockets isn't too much harder than the tank gun at all.
Have just started my LASO run after this patch that reversed some changes, most notably the tank gun. So far the door skip still doesn't work, and the yellow dot for the grapple no longer appears when the blind skull is active. The guides need an update but I understand your apprehension to do so considering 343's total lack of transparency when it comes to changes that affect LASO. But once they promise that no more changes will be made, some new guides would be swell. Either way thanks for all the time you put into your videos :)
There was a learning curve with this, figuring out how to shoot with just the grapple reticle. But by halfway through Foundation it was almost natural. I was really worried about the bridge fight; I was surprised and so glad I didn't have to deal with that!
Just completed LASO just a few days ago without the tank gun, honestly, you would want the duelist energy sword and something explosive and or powerful, specifically the cinder shot, that has helped me through LASO
For a secondary I'd recommend the Arcane Sentinel Beam. They are a beast at melting enemies. And, a full Razorback with all marines with it just makes the enemies ashes in a short time (Beware of Hunters though, for them use the sword XD)

Many ways to break this LASO game. So I actually 100 percented LASO by also doing all objectives of open world. A few things. 1. Game makes distinction between Save Progress and Save Checkpoint. You won’t get a checkpoint if your shields are even 1 percent damaged and if you die you restart from your last checkpoint. However the game does save progress every time you fast travel to a location, after every boss battle, and after ever chapter is done. It will also Save Progress after major sections of a linear level is completed. Unfortunately on LASO you won’t see this on screen due to Blind Skull but playing on regular difficulties you will see it. Once you understand where the game Saves Progress you can force checkpoints. Just End Game and go to Menu. Since you didn’t die the game won’t actually knock you back to your last checkpoint. Instead of you Load your LASO game from menu it will restart you at the point where you last Saved Progress but this time with full shields. Of course now that your shields are full you will also immediately get a checkpoint as well. Get used to Ending Game and Reloading from Menu often to get back full shields and checkpoints. This is more reliable, safer, and faster than melee’ing enemies to get shields back especially if you absorbed a lot of damage doing some of the open world objectives. Now just Fast Travel to an FOB which will trip off a Save Progress. End Game, Reload, and you will start at that FOB with full shields and checkpoint. This is a little known but very useful way of forcing checkpoints and getting full shields at key parts of the game. 2. Dynamo grenades are very useful but can be dangerous because they can damage you as well. I don’t spam them because too many and they will pose more of a danger to you than your enemies. But they are instrumental in stunning them so you can either get off rocket launcher blasts or Energy Sword swipes. 3. Scorpion Tank Gun and Rocket Launchers are not great if you want to 100 percent LASO. They actually can make game harder. Let me explain. To finish objectives like recapturing FOB, killing HVT, and rescuing squads the game demands you kill ALL enemies in the area. When you use explosives did to Cowbell and Boom you often blow enemies like Elites and Brutes completely off the map. Unfortunately the game often glitches and does not register this as a kill and you won’t be able to complete your objective. Also you are stuck with only one weapon slot because the tank gun can’t be dropped. Personally I don’t like it and feel you can make LASO a lot easier without it. 4. The most powerful weapon in the game is actually the Energy Sword even in the first few chapters. The reason for this is that any swipe with it recharges your shield and stuns your opponent slightly. Unless they can one shot you any damage they deal back is invalidated because you are going to get your shields back again with another swipe. You can actually kill Tremonios and Chak Lok by simply running up to them and just swiping them with Energy Sword while running around them again and again. This even works late game against incredibly armored and shielded enemies like Tovarus or Hammer Chieftains if you have timing right. In conjunction with Dynamo grenades to stun this combo is better than explosives because you always have full shields and by extension more checkpoints. 5. I like to max out my Shields first and then save all my Spartan Cores. If you do this by time you get to the end of Conservatory you will be able to get your Drop Wall to level 4 which is very strong and your Thrust to Level 5 also known as Escape Velocity. This completely breaks the game because Bandanna Skull gives you infinite equipment and using Escape Velocity gives you by extension infinite Camo. You can bypass entire sections of game but you can also use it to just kill every enemy as well. Get the Duelist blade by killing HVT Vanaduun. This sword gives you a speed buff, jump buff, and also hits faster for more more damage. In combination with Escape Velocity you can thrust in hit with Duelist to deal massive damage, regen shield, and then thrust away before enemy has a chance to even blink. Dynamo grenades stun lock more dangerous enemies. Using this technique you can take down 95 percent of the enemies in the game with no problems including all Ultra Elites, Brute Chieftains, and even Wraiths and Hunters. It’s insanely overpowered. 6. The few situations where this doesn’t work are against some Hammer Chieftains or Slag Gun or Plasma Gun Chieftains because they are max shield and armor and huge bullet sponges and have ability to one hit you. For that it’s not much harder. Switch to Arcane Sentinel Beam which deals most damage in game short of Escharum’s Diminisher of Hope. Throw a Drop Wall down to protect you from enemy fire and Arcane Sentinel Beam melts everything away. Against Hammer Brutes the Arcane Sentinel Beam does damage faster so you can thrust around them, stun with Dynamo, and either melee them with Duelist to get shields back or hang back and melt them with arcane sentinel beam. 7. Remember that Brutes and Skimmers with rockets can’t use them if you are too close or they blow themselves up. By Thrusting close to them you neuter their attack and force them to throw grenades. Before they can even take out the grenade you’ve already killed then with Duelist blade. 8. Hunters are a little tricky on LASO because of environment sometimes but again infinite Escape Velocity and Duelist blade makes quick work of them. You can also pick up a Skewer which kills them very quickly. 9. So in short Escape Velocity, Dynamo grenade, Duelist Energy Blade, and Arcane Sentinel Beam will allow you to 100 percent LASO with minimum effort. Use End Game and Load from Menu to force checkpoints. Avoid explosives at all costs as you don’t need them and can maintain much greater control without them. Easiest LASO in series by far but also the most fun actually.
@@CartrKillsGrunt Note that after entering the Command Spire at the end of The Sequence to begin The Nexus you can no longer access the open world until you best the game. It’s critical that you enter that Command Spire with Duelist and the Arcane Sentinel Beam. There will be points along the way where you may have to drop a weapon to use either rocket launchers or skewers to take down Phantoms and Hunters but always remember to pick your original weapons back up. Of the two I think the Arcane Sentinel Beam is the more important one to never drop because losing the Duelist sorts sucks but am infinite Escape Velocity means the speed buff becomes useless and a regular Energy Sword that is easily picked up from a dead Elite is almost as good. That arcane sentinel beam is something else and is a very important alternative to kill the few enemies that can’t be practically dealt with by your Energy Blade. One obvious example that comes to mind is Adjuvant Resolution. In the level 12 The Repository you have to clear a room with TWO plasma wielding Brute Chieftains. It’s a nightmare because the room is really small and Thrust doesn’t help as much because of this. Also the Chieftains are huge bullet sponges and will either one shot you with melee attack or melt you in seconds with their plasma cannons. For this situation throwing a drop wall in the sloping corridor that leads to the room and then unloading arcane sentinel beams into them is amazingly effective. One guy will hang back and the other will march toward you while firing. Arcane sentinel beam does so much damage it takes his shield down in one blast and will stagger him. You can take this opportunity to back up and throw down another drop wall. Then unload your beam again. He melts pretty quickly. Then you rinse and repeat with the second Chieftain who will start marching toward you. It works with the Hammer Chieftain in the same level. He won’t chase you all the way up the corridor and will only throw grenades at you. Drop Wall and arcane sentinel beam melts him. Against Hammer Brute you actually can kill them pretty easily with Thrust, dynamo, sword but if you make a mistake they will one shot you so I do prefer taking them down from a bit more range using my arcane sentinel beam and only going in for a sword strike if they are stunned with dynamo first and I need shields back. Bear in mind for Ultra Elites and Brute Chieftains that dynamo grenades won’t stun lock them. You have to wait at least 5-7 seconds before they get stunned again so Escape Velocity becomes important to buy you some time. Against a chieftain with slag or plasma cannon that shoots extremely quickly I prefer to use Drop Wall to shield me while deployed arcane sentinel beam. Massive damage will stun them and that buys you time to redeploy drop wall again. It just tends to be safer. That’s why I still believe the best combination is the duelist blade and the arcane sentinel beam to cover almost all situations LASO throws at you. The only scenario where I think a skewer is better is taking out Hunters but this occurs very infrequently in the game. During those times just remember to pick up your arcane beam after. Technically speaking you can actually take down Hunters with infinite Escape Velocity and your Duelist blade but of course it takes a lot longer and one mistake means you get splattered on LASO. It’s easier to thrust in and out with camo and line up kill shots with skewer from range. Have fun!

An alternative way to play LASO in this game is to just spam Shock Grenades. They are super OP and a lot safer to use. Also, something you should really hammer home is that you can't get checkpoints with your shield down at all. You mentioned it in passing, but I'd say it's THE most important part of the game.

I feel like this would be one of the hardest LASO’s without bandana. Mainly because every enemy in the game has shielding, and in general it’s pretty unforgiving with the Elites and Hunters. So you would constantly be scrounging for Ammo in some sections.
This guide is completely still all WORKING as of 2022-04-20 and Version 6.10021.16272.0 (PC) of the game for me. Just completed my run and pop'd the achievement!

One things for sure- giving the volatile skewer for all of your fob marines- will be helpful for most of the bosses. Even areas like the open world area before repository where you have to clear out a pair of hunters
Tbh laso with bandanna and tank gun seems so cheap especially with all the extreme speedrun exploits. The integrity of laso is a bit tainted for me but I will do it the way it’s supposed to be done
I did halo 2 and halo 3 LASO so regardless I’ll get this LASO but I’m with ya lmao. I just copped the skulls to run this LASO with the tank gun because I don’t wanna deal with this game on legit LASO
Where have they announced that the tank gun is getting patched. Everything I can find on the season 2 update makes no mention of campaign skulls changing besides Grunt B-day audio.
I ran into two main issues during my LASO playthrough. 1) You won't get a checkpoint unless you have full shields/health. 2) The boom skull can cause enemies to be launched far away from the area you're trying to clear out (like a fob) but not kill them. Since the enemy is still alive you won't be able to complete the objective unless you hunt them down. Also, the shock/electric grenades are surprisingly good for the first couple of missions since you can spam them and stun lock enemies.
Here's a fun fact for those playing on Steam. Log in the game using your friend's Microsoft account who had completed LASO and relog your account. Your steam will give you the achievement as if you had completed it without having to set foot in the campaign.
grenade spam makes LASO too easy. shock grenades stun enemies and do a lot of damage.... when you throw 4+ of them you win most encounters without the ai shooting you once
I like to think Infinite LASO being easy is 343’s way of apologizing for making us struggle through Halo 2 LASO to complete MCC Edit: I agree w/ Silver, it feels too easy. IMO they should make Bandanna a "non-scoring" skull and make it void the LASO achievement, along with the other difficulty achievements for that matter. They should also bring Iron back but only for co-op (Iron shouldn't have an effect in solo because everyone just uses save/quit anyway) Alternatively they should add a skull that makes enemies immune to flinch/stun (including shock nade stuns) and a skull that disables shield and equipment upgrades
For anyone doing LASO after they patched the skip; Grab a rocket launcher. Makes the level relatively easy, just sit far away and slowly pick everything off with the SPANKR.
Wish me luck... I'm about to make my actual attempt. I've experimented a bit in the past, and had problems with Warship Gbraakon refusing to load all the skulls... which I found out by way of having my BR run out of ammo on me, and only having 2 of each grenade that I managed to pick up before the first set of grunts
I’m surprised you didn’t use the shock grenade more. You can throw them and they’ll be stunned, and you can spam them and even kill enemies entirely, very helpful especially if you need a melee The rockets in the first mission as well, you can kill many enemies just via the walls
I feel like spamming the pulse/electric grenades is better than the plasma pistol in a lot of situations. Stops from having to swap weapons and can be done from behind cover
Leaving a like because you got me through 700/700 on MCC, specifically the H2 LASO nightmare. But a guide is not really needed for Infinite LASO. It's like playing H2 on Easy.
Sword does count for melee, shock grenades don't, though. A useful strat is to just sit back and spam them since you have unlimited nades. Not especially fun to do or watch though, lol.

Has anyone been able to confirm if you can do the Achievements for the campaign on Legendary, LASO, or the 8 hours in mission replay? Or do you have to actually start an entire new save file?
You can't do under 8 hours from mission replay because that achievement goes off the time accumulated in your save file (which you can see when you load the game). As for Legendary/LASO, I have heard you can, but I have not attempted this myself as of this writing.
LASO 2.0 proposal: -remove bandana -add skull that makes enemies only use faction appropriate weapons (or alternatively enemies just not use unsc weapons) -add skull that has bandana effect but only for equipment I think this would be a reasonable LASO experience for infinite. Bandana kinda ruins it i feel like. Hopefully they add a 2.0 achievement in a patch!

Your shield starts refilling at its regular rate with 1 melee, swording counts. If you take damage while its refilling, it stops and you need to melee an enemy again to get it going again
Never Continue. Always Load from game file as this way you can actually see both difficulty and all the skulls before doing so. I’ve never had skulls deactivating by doing this.
I know it might sound dumb but I can’t help but be extremely disappointed in how much of a cake walk this is. LASO is supposed to be extremely difficult without using extremely beneficial skulls but Bandana plus the exploit scorpion cannon make this easier than legendary. This is kind of pathetic.
I agree. Maybe they'll remove bandana one day. The only time they've changed skulls for an achievement was adding Iron to CE. They initially didn't include that in the MCC CE LASO playlist, but added it a few months after launch. I'll definitely be doing a no tank gun, no bandana run just for fun.
I'm going to say what everyone is thinking. 343 ruined LASO in Infinite. It's too easy! They need to remove bandana and the scorpion gun. Edit: I would say they included Bandana because they didn't have enough time to properly play test the game to see if it is possible to do it with limited ammo. Because once you have unlimited ammo, every fight becomes possible and you don't need to play test. You would just need to play test the final boss.
It's surprising that LASO is so easy in Infinite. Even without the tank gun, not having iron and having bandana active makes it much easier

Duelist E-Sword is a great weapon, and if you ever have allies, you want that M19 Tracker (i think that’s it’s number?)

Of the two I think the Arcane Sentinel Beam is the more important one to never drop because losing the Duelist sorts sucks but am infinite Escape Velocity means the speed buff becomes useless and a regular Energy Sword that is easily picked up from a dead Elite is almost as good. That arcane sentinel beam is something else and is a very important alternative to kill the few enemies that can’t be practically dealt with by your Energy Blade. One obvious example that comes to mind is Adjuvant Resolution. In the level 12 The Repository you have to clear a room with TWO plasma wielding Brute Chieftains. It’s a nightmare because the room is really small and Thrust doesn’t help as much because of this. Also the Chieftains are huge bullet sponges and will either one shot you with melee attack or melt you in seconds with their plasma cannons. For this situation throwing a drop wall in the sloping corridor that leads to the room and then unloading arcane sentinel beams into them is amazingly effective. One guy will hang back and the other will march toward you while firing. Arcane sentinel beam does so much damage it takes his shield down in one blast and will stagger him. You can take this opportunity to back up and throw down another drop wall. Then unload your beam again. He melts pretty quickly. Then you rinse and repeat with the second Chieftain who will start marching toward you. It works with the Hammer Chieftain in the same level. He won’t chase you all the way up the corridor and will only throw grenades at you. Drop Wall and arcane sentinel beam melts him. Against Hammer Brute you actually can kill them pretty easily with Thrust, dynamo, sword but if you make a mistake they will one shot you so I do prefer taking them down from a bit more range using my arcane sentinel beam and only going in for a sword strike if they are stunned with dynamo first and I need shields back. Bear in mind for Ultra Elites and Brute Chieftains that dynamo grenades won’t stun lock them. You have to wait at least 5-7 seconds before they get stunned again so Escape Velocity becomes important to buy you some time. Against a chieftain with slag or plasma cannon that shoots extremely quickly I prefer to use Drop Wall to shield me while deployed arcane sentinel beam. Massive damage will stun them and that buys you time to redeploy drop wall again. It just tends to be safer. That’s why I still believe the best combination is the duelist blade and the arcane sentinel beam to cover almost all situations LASO throws at you. The only scenario where I think a skewer is better is taking out Hunters but this occurs very infrequently in the game. During those times just remember to pick up your arcane beam after. Technically speaking you can actually take down Hunters with infinite Escape Velocity and your Duelist blade but of course it takes a lot longer and one mistake means you get splattered on LASO. It’s easier to thrust in and out with camo and line up kill shots with skewer from range. Have fun!

An alternative way to play LASO in this game is to just spam Shock Grenades. They are super OP and a lot safer to use. Also, something you should really hammer home is that you can't get checkpoints with your shield down at all. You mentioned it in passing, but I'd say it's THE most important part of the game.
Yeah, I mention that in Part 3, but it'd be boring as hell to play/create/watch if I was just spamming grenades the entire time.

I feel like this would be one of the hardest LASO’s without bandana. Mainly because every enemy in the game has shielding, and in general it’s pretty unforgiving with the Elites and Hunters. So you would constantly be scrounging for Ammo in some sections.

One things for sure- giving the volatile skewer for all of your fob marines- will be helpful for most of the bosses. Even areas like the open world area before repository where you have to clear out a pair of hunters
Tbh laso with bandanna and tank gun seems so cheap especially with all the extreme speedrun exploits. The integrity of laso is a bit tainted for me but I will do it the way it’s supposed to be done
The dynamo grenades are really good for taking out groups of grunts and jackals. You can just spam them and basically stun lock the grunts and jackals
It is a good strat but mind numbingly boring to do and to watch. I mention it in later guides, but I'm like yeah I'd rather play the game lol.

Where have they announced that the tank gun is getting patched. Everything I can find on the season 2 update makes no mention of campaign skulls changing besides Grunt B-day audio.
Get this in before 342 yoinks the tank gun.
I ran into two main issues during my LASO playthrough. 1) You won't get a checkpoint unless you have full shields/health. 2) The boom skull can cause enemies to be launched far away from the area you're trying to clear out (like a fob) but not kill them. Since the enemy is still alive you won't be able to complete the objective unless you hunt them down.
Also, the shock/electric grenades are surprisingly good for the first couple of missions since you can spam them and stun lock enemies.
If you blast an enemy away you just need to leave the area for a minute or two and then return to progress.
And so it begins...
Here's a fun fact for those playing on Steam. Log in the game using your friend's Microsoft account who had completed LASO and relog your account. Your steam will give you the achievement as if you had completed it without having to set foot in the campaign.
You'll forever live with the knowledge that you didn't earn it, though. Even worse, you siphoned it off someone who did.

grenade spam makes LASO too easy. shock grenades stun enemies and do a lot of damage.... when you throw 4+ of them you win most encounters without the ai shooting you once

I like to think Infinite LASO being easy is 343’s way of apologizing for making us struggle through Halo 2 LASO to complete MCC
Edit: I agree w/ Silver, it feels too easy. IMO they should make Bandanna a "non-scoring" skull and make it void the LASO achievement, along with the other difficulty achievements for that matter. They should also bring Iron back but only for co-op (Iron shouldn't have an effect in solo because everyone just uses save/quit anyway)
Alternatively they should add a skull that makes enemies immune to flinch/stun (including shock nade stuns) and a skull that disables shield and equipment upgrades

For anyone doing LASO after they patched the skip;
Grab a rocket launcher. Makes the level relatively easy, just sit far away and slowly pick everything off with the SPANKR.

Wish me luck... I'm about to make my actual attempt. I've experimented a bit in the past, and had problems with Warship Gbraakon refusing to load all the skulls... which I found out by way of having my BR run out of ammo on me, and only having 2 of each grenade that I managed to pick up before the first set of grunts

I’m surprised you didn’t use the shock grenade more. You can throw them and they’ll be stunned, and you can spam them and even kill enemies entirely, very helpful especially if you need a melee
The rockets in the first mission as well, you can kill many enemies just via the walls

Sword does count for melee, shock grenades don't, though. A useful strat is to just sit back and spam them since you have unlimited nades. Not especially fun to do or watch though, lol.
Honestly, just use sword and rockets. (DONT USE TANK GUN ITS GETTING PATCHED OUT SOON).
The game exploits dont work anymore. You cant punch open that door. The first three brutes that you despawn the AI does not do that anymore

Has anyone been able to confirm if you can do the Achievements for the campaign on Legendary, LASO, or the 8 hours in mission replay? Or do you have to actually start an entire new save file?
You can't do under 8 hours from mission replay because that achievement goes off the time accumulated in your save file (which you can see when you load the game).
As for Legendary/LASO, I have heard you can, but I have not attempted this myself as of this writing.
I'd be very interested in a "legit" guide for the whole game. I'm going through it legit right now because I want to have a 100% completed map
LASO 2.0 proposal:
-remove bandana
-add skull that makes enemies only use faction appropriate weapons (or alternatively enemies just not use unsc weapons)
-add skull that has bandana effect but only for equipment
I think this would be a reasonable LASO experience for infinite. Bandana kinda ruins it i feel like. Hopefully they add a 2.0 achievement in a patch!

How many bashes recharges shields and does sword recharge shields?
Your shield starts refilling at its regular rate with 1 melee, swording counts. If you take damage while its refilling, it stops and you need to melee an enemy again to get it going again
Anyone else having a problem with the skulls deactivating themselves when you load back into the game?
Never Continue. Always Load from game file as this way you can actually see both difficulty and all the skulls before doing so. I’ve never had skulls deactivating by doing this.

Depends on the tape/screen. I've never had an issue, but I'm sure heavier duty tape would not be good.

I know it might sound dumb but I can’t help but be extremely disappointed in how much of a cake walk this is. LASO is supposed to be extremely difficult without using extremely beneficial skulls but Bandana plus the exploit scorpion cannon make this easier than legendary. This is kind of pathetic.
I agree. Maybe they'll remove bandana one day. The only time they've changed skulls for an achievement was adding Iron to CE. They initially didn't include that in the MCC CE LASO playlist, but added it a few months after launch. I'll definitely be doing a no tank gun, no bandana run just for fun.

I'm going to say what everyone is thinking. 343 ruined LASO in Infinite. It's too easy! They need to remove bandana and the scorpion gun.
Edit: I would say they included Bandana because they didn't have enough time to properly play test the game to see if it is possible to do it with limited ammo. Because once you have unlimited ammo, every fight becomes possible and you don't need to play test. You would just need to play test the final boss.
This is probably the first game of the series that I have ever completed Laso on.
The scorpion gun was a hidden gimmick but keep the bandana skull.
