- In every game the most competitive and important category for speedruns is any% beating the game as fast as possible, but sometimes thats just not fun, this is the tale of how us halo infinite Speedrunners broke the game so hard that it became unfun, and then fixed it.

Wait… the tank gun is called “The Master Dong”? Is that why the shot comes out so low?
It's firing so low because that's the default for where guns fire if not changed in the halo engine. It's also not called "the master dong" I have no idea where he got that. It's called "scorpion_gun.weapon"

Speedrunning Halo Infinite on LASO without glitches will be an interesting concept to see
Well the thing is a skull gives you infinite ammo; so the biggest issue with infinite LASO is that once you get a rocket or power weapon; you just keep that and you’ll probably be fine.

But the big thing is these skips kept making the run not fun or challenging enough

I’ve spent thousands of hours before getting world records, but the thing of it is is that if it’s not fun to do, why would I want to spend so much time on it? Same thing with other runners. Some games are good for speedrunning and some just… aren’t. And that’s okay.
I'm 99% a youtube only viewer so content made specifically for videos and not just stream reuploads is very appreciated especially if it's done well. thank you ❤️

I've been trying to watch Twitch but I just can't seem to really get into it as a platform.
Same as the others. Even if I literally force myself to watch someone I already love (e. g. mo1stcr1tikal) I just can't sit in 1 place and focus for more than 10 minutes. I can only chill with UA-cam.

You dont have to save/quit to get invincibility. you can ground pound through the laser, pull up the map and teleport to a fob and it will do it
That doesn't work for me, had to save and quit.

I love the speed running community and I feel that it gets more interesting with game breaking glitches. More opportunity for new discoveries to decrease the speed run time.

Did it come to you as a surprise that speedrunners are not a monolithic group op people who think all alike as if being identical clones? No, they are as diverse group of differently thinking people as any other randomly picked group.

unlikely. its needs a reference name and its probably just a joke in the office. so many things in games have id names that are in the code that have fuck all to do with the items actual name

It was actually the first day. I was the first one to find the Scorpion gun and upload a video of it or mention it online, as far as I'm aware. Found it only a few hours after release.
If a gamer sees a tall place they aren't meant to go, you can bet your ass that's the first place they're headed as soon as they see it
I always love seeing developments in speedrunning. Its really cool to see different tricks and glitches that make it fun

dope. wish i had practiced these when i did my LASO run lol. i did try to do the lazer beam shit at the excavation but couldn't get it to work.
I'd imagine that with a Co-op partner when 343i drops Co-op, a jackal won't be needed and a Co-op any% category could be beat much quicker

This reminds me of the ULTRAKILL and the Ultraboost Clip (or ub clip as it's known) situation.
Basically shooting a grenade with a Malicious Railcannon while facing away from a wall corner and then promptly sliding for a moment allowed to go out of bounds at any many points in the game. Performing an ub clip was pretty difficult due to the very precise timing and angle required to pull it off, but it was a ridiculous time save, as the full any% run of the game takes less than 20 minutes and said exploit allowed to skip tens of seconds or even minutes at a time.
Now the real problem started when the physics patch came out, which didn't impact the game for casual players almost at all but it made the ub clip almost impossible to pull off. Notice that i said almost, because it can still be done, which made the old runs that included ub clips still viable, but impossible for most runners to do now.
That means it's almost impossible to beat the established times even with nigh perfect execution of the ub clip-less routing.
If anyone from #speedruns sees this please correct me if i made a mistake somewhere or forgot to mention anything important.

When I first fought Escharum I did enough damage immediately that his shield never deployed and I just had to break the would be shield power things in the wall. I tried to do it again and couldn't. Idk what caused it but it was very nice (normal difficulty)

I forgot to grab the skull on the last mission of the game and was pissed, atleast now there's a way to get there in like 15 minutes
I like watching speed runs... and Learning about the discoveries that were made over time. When the game comes out and just barely after launched gets so broken and optimised so fast. There isn't really room for improvements. Don't get me wrong I love watching the games get torn apart just so save a couple seconds. You touched on it a bit in the start of the video. Too many games are being released incomplete or just broken.

This was already done with someone using a Master Chief Samurai armor set
This reminds me of Zipping in Elden Ring, you should check the timeline on that Any% it went to the ground in some few weeks, oh and the specific hardware too
Sonic heroes uses a category called 'limited tech selection' instead of glitchless. Thats how broken the game sometimes got.
Waifu killed the game in a different way by breaking records and discovering things
When I was playing excavation I accidentally fell from up top down into the laser and it just pushed me straight to the bottom. I had to spend a bit grappling out of the hole but then it let me skip about half of the campaign level and pushed me forward to the next one.
Roach skip will be really important for exploring or making machinima in campaign once co-op drops

Well, when you knock on your friends' doors don't they open up and let you in? Same thing here, Halo Infinite just wants us to be polite and knock first.

In my case, I usually just watch 100% speedruns. You can't actually skip a lot of things entirely in that sort of run, just delay them for later doing, which means that there's far less encouragement to do sequence breaking. It doesn't work as well for shooters like halo when the objective is usually just "get to the end of the level", but for a lot of games it's usually a relatively standard collect-everything playthrough with some neat tricks to defeat or collect certain things in different ways.
Speed running kinda killed Borderlands for me. I just started watching streams of speed runners on my TV before bed and decided to download the game because I have it on the Epic Games store. Even though I only watched a few livestreams, I noticed while playing that I'm doing techniques I see in the speed runs subconsciously (The easy ones at least).
This isn't in no way me saying speedrunning is bad. I just understand how people can view it as bad.

Performing some of these skips fast and effectively is more harder than playing the game “glitches” it’s also more fun to watch a speedrun with insane speeds and breaks than a boring normal playthrough.

Every speedrun I see of this game a piece of me just questions life.
So weird to know many speedrunners before they were even setting good times. Lots of the current runners were setting good times in Halo 3/Reach. Hell I remember doing tricks with Harc back when all of Jumprs hated on him for basically no reason. Glad he's seeing success!

An interesting thing in halo infinite I found is on the road a banished drop pod landed on my tank sending me flying, I lost the tank and died

Day 1 I found that grapple ground pound glitch, but I'm not a spreedrunner and tend not to think of it sometimes, I wish I did cause maybe I would've helped spreedrunner earlier
In one of the boss fights, I accidentally clipped out not knowing I could clip back I thought I was soft locked

@@TheVivapinsam i saw the developers of the crash Bandicoot remake watch a speed run. They sounded defeated.
More developers should be like Insomniac Games. They have invited speedrunners to their studios to demonstrate how broken their games are, constantly tweet about GDQ events, and work with our community to leave certain glitches unpatched (and sometimes add minor things that would help us a lot). Rather than be upset we found ways to break their games, they appreciate the work we put into it.
Have you seen the Halo Devs React to a Halo Infinite Speedrun video? They were joking around the entire time, not a care in the world. Same with the DOOM Eternal devs. A lot of companies don't actually care a great deal about speedrunners breaking their game, and other companies (like Bungie with Destiny 2) welcome the idea as it helps them push out patches for live service games.
It's not surprising that this happened at all. It is a game designed around the severe movement limitations a controller puts on the player but with the ability to use mouse and keyboard allows the player to break the game design that's had to be simplified around the controlle limitations.
