She did a video for GQ where she showed off all these different pieces she had like she collects vintage chanel i think you’d find it interesting
2ne1 were one of the pioneers when it came to girl groups working with labels, and CL was a huge part behind that. Even major bestselling groups weren’t wearing designer but actually knock offs.
It’s interesting to see which outfits were clearly inspired by runway collections like CLC’s Where Are You? 2017 stage outfits were clearly inspired by a (2014 I think) Saint Laurent collection with the high low dress and SNSD’s stylists once got criticised for copying designer brands for their stage costumes

yg's idols have always been ahead with their fashion and collabing with designers. i understand why a lot of idol stylists make them wear knockoffs or replicas, because they do have a budget, but it was nice to see 2NE1 back in the day working with actual labels.

Yeah it took a while for designers and kpop groups to develop relationships. CL and 2ne1 definitely were one of the first to invest in making actual fashion statements in a time when it wasn't as common as it was now. I can't blame SNSD's stylists, I'm sure brands weren't taking them seriously enough to send/loan out clothes because they didn't think about the influence SNSD has.
@@xoxoexo yeah a lot of ppl who are newer fans don't realise how much kpop was seen as this weird quirky industry in the west. the western attitude to kpop has changed so drastically. tho ppl do still have this same attitude of it being hyper manufactured which while is somewhat true to an extent, also ignores how much of that same manufacturing happens in the western pop/music industries
its also telling imo how the brands that worked with kpop artists first were brands like moschino who were known for being more avant garde or even "crass"
also designer wasn't nearly as "accessible" as it is nowadays for a non ultra rich, famous clientele. also i remember watching a documentary about fake designer in korea and it wasn't because ppl couldn't afford it but because designers simply weren't selling in korea so you either had to travel overseas or buy fake.
As a South African and so happy that Thebe Magugu is loved internationally. I hope more African designers and fashion gets more recognition

Chrome Hearts was a HUGE brand in Japan in the late 90s - early 2010s in the music scene. Lots of indie rockers had their stuff. I think that's when CL learned about it.
It was also really popular in Korea from 2015 to 2019😄

Favorite: Masha Popova tie-dyed jean look. Close second the Miu Miu Michelin Man. The shoes were all great: the green Vetements thigh highs, the Amina Muaddi slingbacks, the Thebe Maguba white boots, and the Vivienne Westwood Ghillie heels.
I remember Motley Crue wearing Chrome Hearts. They won a CFDA for Accessory Design sometime in the 90s and I think G-dragon made them a big thing in Asia. They have collaborated with Rick Owens and Virgil Abloh, among many of their collaborations.
Lots of crosses, Old English lettering, heavy silver work.

CL was revolutionary in 2NE1 and is still revolutionary now music wise and fashion wise. 2NE1 were the first group to work with international designers but also sometimes made their stage outfits themselves! And Im glad she gets the respect and recognition and is the first female kpop artist to be invited to the MET gala! (For anyone wondering: Blackpinks Rose wasnt invited she was a +1)
CL has always been a trendsetter. I remember people recreating every single look she wore even two years after her debut
Since everyone is giving their Chrome Hearts knowledge I feel the need to add that CL is also life long friends with Jesse Jo Stark, daughter of Chrome Hearts founders. Her connection with the brand is much more intimate than people might think.

Chrome Hearts was super big in the late 90s in the U.S. Very rocker chic, high end accessories inspired by bikers and other subcultures popular with celebs who would wear Paige premium denim and North Beach leather...

From what I understand as a CL and K-pop fan, she’s pretty close with Wang, and she never stopped supporting him through the allegations (wore his work to Met gala, posted birthday wishes, etc.). Most K-pop companies still dress their idols in Wang regularly, not how I would prefer it however I have a feeling its one of those topics where they just wave things aside and say its a western problem like how they tend to do with race

She has always been a fashion girl since before Kpop became as mainstream as it is now.
Her and her ex label mate G-Dragon were on front row seats for many fashion week shows since around 2013 and had been pioneering trends for youths since back then too. Her group 2NE1 has done collabs with brands like Chrome Hearts and Jeremy Scott’s Adidas. Their image always centered around being strong, bold and empowering.
You knew CL made friends with designers like Jeremy, Alexander Wang and acquaintances with fashion forward artists like Rihanna and Beyoncé. But for her to keep up these connections after her split with her old label YG (BIG music label which BLACKPINK is also under) in 2019 and continue to deliver high quality looks (still obsessed over the W Korea June shoot with Gaultier archival pieces) speaks volume about her character.
Thank you for referencing that Gaultier did shipped their archive pieces just for CL to wore it on a magazine shoot! Such a fashion icon!
What made me love this particular video was every clothing and accessories CL showed was her. I didn't question if it was something she'd wear or if some stylist told her to wear this or that. CL is a fashion girl and it shows.

CL deserves much more and will always be the queen of K-pop on an entirely different level. She always has been, 2NE1 had to fight so hard for everything. Including CL to write music for them and one of their most known songs she had to really fight to get for them. People have literally no idea. She deserves everything good. All the girls do but as their leader she really had to go above and beyond. Their best album to date's lead song she had her hands all over and that almost didn't even happen due to her company. Crush.

Well actually iam listening to these fashion critique videos to fall asleep🙈 but I have severe insomnia so it's a huge compliment. It's just the perfect mixture: he is saying a lot of things that are interesting, but personally I don't feel any pressure to educate myself about fashion it's just for fun. And then also his voice and way of talking keeps me interested enough to not think to much of my own thoughts but also he's consistent and calm. And the videos are very long, which is great and all the talk about creativity, color, fabric just creates such a good vibe. Iam really grateful for these videos and of course I also watch them for entertainment during the day
