Man I remember being like 9 damn years old and finally saving up the $10 I needed to be able to actually buy it, and then I was able to convince my mom to take me to walmart, and I was able to get it without her noticing... (wasn't allowed to play "graphically violent" games lol). recently got it on steam and was wondering if anyone has made a modern review of it, and here we are. Great video and great job on making me feel nostalgic lol
Man this took me WAYYY back. Good stuff and I think I'm gonna give it another go this weekend for old time's sake haha.

A few corrections. Pets can transform permanently. There are a few quest variations, like go get an item thats lying on the floor. But in the end they are all same. Good review by the way.
I remember playing this game on my dad's computer with my little brother he would watch me play and always avoided going into the dungeon because of the monsters and I gotta say wild tangent was phenomenal
I'm currently saving up for a PC for a handful of reasons playing fate again being one of them and to start a UA-cam channel to remember a couple friends of mine that passed one recommended i make a channel and the other I'll do content on a game he introduced me too along with game reviews and gaming streams I just wish I wasn't saving up my cash as slow as I am poverty sucks
@@Maddmike your a little late on that one my friend I checked my channel for shits and I already have 2 subs I'll be streaming all 4 fate games I've only played the first 2 games and use to play the demo competing with a friend of mine seeing witch one of use had the stronger character😂😂 good times indeed in fact I'll see about having him guest on my fate streams as we talk about our time with the game
well that explains how we were limited to just the first three levels of the dungeon. siblings and I spent hours doing the exact loop of dungeon crawling, leave and sell, run around to talk to everyone to find quests on floors far beyond what we could access. and the fishing mini game. god, there's where we spent the majority of the time in the game. I can see that there would probably be many other better options for this type of game but the simplicity of the game and the fact that I played it when I was younger is making me want to pick it up again. maybe just go for the sequel.
I've never even seen this game in my life until I heard about it when some people were discussing old ARPG games they played beside Diablo, and boy, once I saw it I instantly understood that it must've been an inspiration behind Torchlight (yes, I do realize that Torchlight was created by some of Diablo 2 devs, but still, the art style and a pet seem to be way too similar)
@@HOSS257 I'm not sure if it's the same team but I know for sure that Torchlight was made by former Diablo devs after Blizzard North was shut down (for instance Schaefer brothers)
Torchlight was actually a collaboration between Travis Baldree (the lead dev of FATE), and Max and Erich Schaefer (co-designers on Diablo 1 and 2). In the process, they ended up making a pretty cool game that functions as a spiritual successor to the FATE franchise.
great review, thank you for posting this!
Thank you for commenting. Love this game and wish we’d get a new one, I feel like it could do numbers on the Switch
Great review Mike; oh how I miss running out of those WildTangent tokens to play this and Polar Golfer..
Unfortunately Polar Golfer is not on Steam... I checked

Good luck my friend. You’ll have to let me know when you end up making that channel, I’ll be your first sub

Super good video, i really enjoyed listening :) I love this game, its simple and charming.
Thank you for your comment, I love this game too. Considering streaming it some time in the near future
Ah, yes. Fate - Baby's first C-RPG. Great vid.

Great review.
My dog just crapped on my steak sandwhich do I eat
Still the best game ever made, bar none. Been playing this game since 2007.
Fun review! The game reminds me a bit of Din's Curse (and next game Din's Legacy). Also Torchlight 2
Forgotten relms used to have multiplayer.
Playing on hardest difficulty as a mage is......a challenge.
Until you rush descent and get a retrieval quest with a unique item with 'perfectly balanced' stats and wear it 😉

I learned today that Torchlight (a game series i want to check out now) was actually made by the developers of the Fate games too

no i had a computer in 1998 and crossed my whole life without seeing that game ever until recently.
This came on my Emachine and my dad bought if for me....
I always found it fun to get to 100 eventually you just get 1 shot by everything
This game is amazing. I love this game.
I second that.
