    My craft life hack video is the most popular one from the channel and I always wanted to make a sequel! It took some time to come up with new hacks so I only managed to get this filmed now :). I hope these craft hacks are useful and you can use some of them to help you with you DIY projects.
    10 DIY CRAFT LIFE HACKS
    1) Picture Frame - Portable tray for crafting and DIY
    2) Pencil Sharpener - Razor blade for DIY
    3) Olive Oil and Tealight Candle - Easy DIY Lip Balm (Candle wax is non-toxic candles.org/faqs/)
    4) Tealight Holder - DIY Cookie Cutter. Inspired by SofiaStyled's Minons DIY EOS here! • DIY Minions EOS Lip Ba...
    5) Baby Wipes - Keep air-dry clay soft when crafting. You can also add a sheet inside an open packet of clay, wrap it tightly and this keeps it soft for longer.
    6) Eyeshadow - Use instead of pastels or Tamiya Baking Master for DIY cakes and cookies. Works on polymer clay too!
    7) Pistachio Shells - Make DIY Neko Atsume heads! A detailed tutorial for this is coming soon ^_^
    8) Toothpaste & Sugar - Safe and effective hand scrub to get rid of ink or paint
    9) Tablet or Monitor - DIY Light Box for tracing templates or drawings
    10) Cheap Cushion - Get tons of cheap polyester stuffing for making DIY sock plushies!
    Please note, not all of my DIY videos are ASMR because many crafting techniques do no produce any sound. This includes sewing, clay or painting videos. That's why those DIYs always have music in the background because otherwise they will be almost completely silent.

    About the blade there are two types of people: the ones who just seek attention and the ones who truly talk about self harm without talking about themselves. Guys. The first ones. Stop, its dumb. and both types just stop, she might have not realized it, don't you think that it makes her feel bad reading all these comments?

      Omg thank you so much I have watched macaroon for over a year now and I love her Chanel and cute life hacks but like when people are all like oh hate hate hate I'm so offended even if they aren't offending me I know it's not my place to talk but I just feel like we need to say something like if you have nothing nice to say it (excuse my language) but fuck off am I right?

    Some tealights are toxic so be careful and look at whats in them first

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  8 років тому +10

      +superboobs890 Hi! I go into a bit more detail on the safety of tealights in this video: ua-cam.com/video/X02D0sEi_4U/v-deo.html And yes, I agree with you that it's impossible to tell whether a candle is 100% safe however wax itself is not toxic. I think people should use their own discretion...in places like the USA or Europe, products are regulated more strictly so chances are that candles are safe. (In the USA, most are made from food-grade paraffin wax)

    To everyone talking about the blade thing
    Please don't try to reason with someone who cuts unless you've felt the need to do it yourself. We know our problems are still there after we cut. We know there are other people who have it worse. We know. A lot of us actually hate that we cut and knowing these things makes us hate it more. It's actually addictive, there comes a point where you actually feel like you need to rather than want to.
    Please don't joke about cutting or suicide. I know it's a popular thing to joke about but when you do it directly aimed at a cutter or someone with suicidal thoughts, if they do kill themselves that's assisting in suicide, which will get you in legal trouble. People have a tendency to lose morality over the internet because they can imagine the other person isn't someone behind a screen. Try to imagine the person you're talking to as a loved one and then see if you'd tell them to kill themself.
    If you are cutting, please do try to stop. Again, it is highly addictive. It's just running from your problems. This isn't me saying "oh what's the point, your problems are still there". What I'm trying to say is that by cutting, you aren't learning how to actually deal with problems. You'll continue to resort to it over and over again, instead of learning how to deal with it. Don't be afraid to get help from a therapist. I promise you, you are not just a problem. Your family will worry about you less if you accept help than if you try to hide it and let it get worse. You ARE entitled to help. Depression isn't natural, it isn't "just a phase", it's a disease. The sooner you can accept it, the sooner you can get better. It doesn't matter if you don't think your problems are as bad as someone else's. If you're in pain, you need help. Don't ignore your broken arm because you know there's someone else who doesn't have an arm. You need treatment just like everyone else.
    If anyone needs to vent or ask for advice, feel free, I wouldn't mind listening. But maybe don't make a post like that on a video like this. There's a lot of bad people out there who will want to make you feel worse about coming out with it and it's more important to talk about it with someone you trust or a doctor.
    Stay strong, I promise you can make it. You're so close, I can feel it

    I understand how hard it is to overcome self harm and thoughts of it, but this video is about crafting. Please don't comment things about bad memories or "other things" that you could do with the second hack. If you do feel the need to talk about it, talk to someone you know is comfortable with it, not a public comment thread.

    • @omori1733
      @omori1733 7 років тому

      It actually is hard, considering it is an addiction.

    • @Ernlews
      @Ernlews 7 років тому +6

      And there are countless ways to help the addictions, but here isn't it.

    • @omori1733
      @omori1733 7 років тому +2

      Yes, but overcoming an addiction is not easy. Most of the people who self harm I have noticed are adolescents, which would make it harder to come forth with their addiction to a trusted adult to receive medical treatment and help. I also suppose that most of the commenters are making jokes and not being serious.

    I love how you use original, useful, and creative ideas. And when you use someone else's you use credit. Not many popular youtubers do this ( Hellomaphie). Good job!

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  8 років тому +16

      +Mei mei Franklin Thank you!! I think that giving credit is the very least I can do since that person's idea is contributing to my own view count and ad revenue. Crediting someone costs no time or money at all and I can't imagine simply using someone else's idea, earning money off it (fyi for large UA-cam channels this is easily thousands of dollars per video) but neglecting to mention where I got the inspiration from. So always crediting people is my way of giving back for the privilege of being able to make a living through UA-cam and ensuring that karma doesn't bite me in the ass later down the line 😝

    It's really dumb to comment on the fact that you used a pencil sharpener blade for self harm when the video isn't related at all. I did the same thing once upon a time but I can at least realize this video is about crafts, in which you use blades to cut things.

Now, if anyone feels like they have the need to comment of those, saying something hurtful, either don't post those, or be more supporting. I understand that you must be going through some hard times to be mad enough to post those comments. Hey there. I've seen a lot of people joking about the sharpener trick, and I find it disgusting that people think it is a laughing matter. I've been there, lots of people have, and there are days where happiness just doesn't seem possible, and people need to realise that.
    Maqaron did not make this video to encourage this, it was a video about crafts, not... that.
    So please, just enjoy the video, and don't spend your time joking about upsetting matters, this is an innocent and useful video.

      Thank you!! Yep, unfortunately I wasn't able to edit the sound as much as I wanted to with this video because my harddrive was full and it made FinalCut run incredibly slowly 😓. I normally tweak the music and sound effects and try out different tracks but the program just kept getting stuck. So I actually did a "blind export" and uploaded to UA-cam without watching the whole thing from beginning till end. It turned out ok but there are small mistakes that I will fix for future vids and once I've cleaned up my computer a bit!

    • @milk8748
      @milk8748 7 років тому +12

      Lol no. I'm just implying (apparently not obviously enough haha) that people shouldn't go to diy craft videos on youtube or to the internet in general to get help for their mental issues (Unless of course it's 7cups of something). But Like, I've dealt with stuff like that and so have many people very close to my heart but I don't go telling random people on the internet. I go to a trusted counsellor. Some of these people will do it for sympathy and i know it's mean, it's very true. people want others to feel bad for them because in reality, we all love attention... just some of us seek it in the complete wrong ways.

    Guys. The sharpener blade one. Just stop, stop it right now. She is trying to help crafters, because some don't have cutting materials, she never said "Here's a sharpener! Remove the blade to cause self-harm!". Just stop guys, she's trying to help. If she was planning on hurting someone, her videos would be a lot less happier. What do you think the title says? "How to cause self-harm"? No. It was craft hacks, and a blade happens to be a easier way to cut clay. Do you think she would actually have intention on doing this? Heck no, you either don't see how much she cares, or your not a true fan of her and should quit watching her videos.

    I'm sure she didn't realize the association most people make between pencil sharpeners and self harm, though I do think looking into whether or not a suggestion for crafts that involves blades would be possibly triggering or suggestive

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  8 років тому +19

      +Robin Coolidge Hi! I personally don't feel that "most" people make an association between pencil sharpener blades and self harm. I think that trigger warnings are good but they are only necessary when the content is consciously supplied to a target audience of self harmers. Eg. If this is a channel on mental health or self harm recovery then a trigger warning is appropriate. However since the channel theme and target audience are wildly unrelated to the topic of self harm. It would be like forcing every cooking channel to put up trigger warnings for people recovering from eating disorders. Anyone watching craft videos is aware that there may be blades involved so they've made a decision to watch.

    • @localbird
      @localbird 8 років тому +7

      +Maqaroon you're right it was a stretch to say that "most" people associate the blade to self harm, and I do think you make a fair point. This is a craft channel and I was a bit hasty to assume everyone would think that way or that everyone should be aware. My apologies =^•^=

    • @localbird
      @localbird 8 років тому +2

      +Kari Hereditary no, just that a little research on the various uses. I however after listening to the comment she left realize that blades are needed for some crafts and that she shouldn't need one. Like she said, it would be like putting a trigger warning on cooking channels for people with eating disorders

    • @alinelaura7714
      @alinelaura7714 8 років тому

    • @pellemckruth4070
      @pellemckruth4070 8 років тому +6

      As someone who self harms, I do not associate it with self harm at all; bc self harm is a wide thing. and I think its kinda insensitive to think that the only type of self harm is cutting when 1) addictions can be used as a form of self harm 2) bruising can be used as a form of self harm 3) not all self harm is physical.
      The notion that ''self harm= blades'' is harmful for all who has experienced or are experiencing self harm.

    Are you sure the wax from the candle is safe for lips and such?

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  8 років тому

      +TheEmeraldBacca Hi! I googled candle wax and the common answer is that paraffin wax should be non-toxic. Of course, beeswax is the best option but a lot of people have problems finding that. (candles.org/faqs/ Paraffin wax - like all candle waxes - is non-toxic. In fact, paraffin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in food, cosmetics, and medical applications. Food-grade paraffin is commonly used for manufacturing candles. I recommend people stay away from coloured or scented candles because those contain chemicals that are not intended for use on skin.)

    lol why is everyone commenting about self harm and the blade? this is a craft channel, not a channel to rant about your "mental" problems. Half the people who say the razor made them cry or something made me cringe. They seem like people who just want attention. I'd suggest NOT using a normal tea candle, but instead going for coconut oil. Just as easy to find, but WAY better for your skin :/ Parafin wax is not that good to put near your mouth!

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  8 років тому +3

      +Elzariel Hi! Wax and oil are not interchangeable, so the safest version to use is beeswax. Coconut oil is definitely the better substitute for olive oil but I had so many comments from people around the world who cannot get hold of coconut oil. I googled paraffin wax and the common answer is that it's basically non-toxic. From here: candles.org/faqs/ Paraffin wax - like all candle waxes - is non-toxic. In fact, paraffin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in food, cosmetics, and medical applications. Food-grade paraffin is commonly used for manufacturing candles.

      When she makes things /based/ off of something, that isn't stealing -- it's a transformative work that she herself created. When you trace, you're literally copying line for line what someone worked on. You aren't adding anything to it.That's the difference
