Knox, att 8:44 you picked-up on 'ladder' in the money game, with the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" visual, but you missed a UK-centric bombshell. The guy portrayed on the still cheated on set to win the million Pounds, by having someone in the audiance coughing the answers. What makes it even more scandalous is that the guy was an Officer in the British Army -- a class of person oft regarded as beyond reproach! Edit to add: At 13:57, "tell lies out the gate", most certainly refers to Watergate, and the multitude of ****gate's that we have experienced since Tricky Dicky made it a political norm.
Yes! This fact blew my mind when someone pointed it out somewhere, I think it was under the music video Knox is watching here. Well, kinda. I had googled where the name comes from, but it had been a while and I had forgotten.
Something I found out recently, the tounge twister she sells sea shells is about an actual person. Mary Anning sold shells and fossils to make end meet in the south of England but went on to become probably the top expert of fossils but because she was a woman she didn't get the recognition she deserved but even the top academics of the time would go to her for advice
Just noticed one more thing: "why just shells? Why limit your self? She sells seashells, sell oil as well!" ... The Shell oil company started as a seller for decorative seashells... Ren is such a smart lyrical genius!
Yeah there’s nothing worse than watching a review and you’re about 5 minutes in and they miss the meaning of your favourite bit so you just fuck it off and go to the next one. This guy deconstructs it all perfectly every time. Some reverse engineering shit.
Yeah! And he mentions it in his other masterpiece, Hi Ren. The "bad" side mocking the "good" side, saying "We've heard it all before / Oh, 'She sells sea shells on the sea shore'".

Brilliant reaction Knox 👍 The father of the Shell Oil corporation started selling shells in the late 1800s. Conch shells you could hear the sea held to your ear. Everyone wanted them and the bigger the more expensive. By 1930 his sons started buying oil and selling petroleum and made a fortune. Have a great weekend with the wife and Happy birthday 🎂 to her. Best reactor on UA-cam 👍👍👍👍
There are so many reactors out there who never get all the economic and political connections in this song. I love your amazing, educated breakdowns! Hope your wife has a great Birthday!
As an aside, "She sells sea shells" nursery rhyme was apparently a reference to Mary Anning, a female fossil collector from the 1800s. Ren also calls back to it in Hi Ren when his shadow/dark side is telling him he's not original.

I get it. But I'll bet there is at least one topic that you could be "the smart one" about, right? :Maybe not in a room of experts (or maybe so), but with the right audience and the right messaging, you could be the one that makes me say, "God she's smart." That's what's so cool about people; everyone has something to share, none of us know everything, but mash us all together and we know an unimaginable amount of stuff.
What a thoughtful and intelligent reaction and breakdown. I love Ren because he is so talented and inventive but so thought provoking. You always do such a wonderful job of not only noticing the little things in the music but in the lyrics and meaning as well. One of my favorite reactors for this very reason. Love it.
Excellent reaction. Loved your analysis and commentary. Sometimes I learn things from you. Most times you just confirm my own beliefs 🫶🏻. This is the song that introduced me to Ren. My 14yr old son shared it with me (proud mom moment 😉). Then I heard Hi Ren and I was completely hooked on this artist. Have not been disappointed with anything I have seen from Ren. I have nothing but respect and prayers for him. ✌🏻🙏🏻❤️
The whole she sells sea shells scheme is honestly one of the finest lyrical acrobatics i've ever heard, i genuinely think it's massively slept on. It's so clever not only in the scheme itself, but the message behind it, i think its possibly one of Ren's most brilliant verses.
My dude! Thank you for being an artist that isn't a money grubbing ass hat. Charismatic Voice led me to Ren, which led me to your content. Don't sell yourself short my brother. You are a lyrical monster. Stay political. Make your voice heard. Independent artists and thinkers will change our world for the better!
I love Charismatic Voice but for me Justin Hawkins led me to Ren which led me here 😊 the Web of UA-cam reactions can be very interwoven and I'm here for it
Thank you ! I absolutely love watching you! Happy birthday to you're wife .. Ren certainly is opening the minds isn't he.. I hope Ren can keep growing he deserves it.. much love and respect knox
Mary Anning (1799-1847) was an English paleontologist, fossil collector, and dealer who became known around the world for the discoveries she made in Jurassic marine fossil beds along the English Channel at Lyme Regis in Dorset, Southwest England.0 Her contributions to paleontology are now receiving their due and she is now remembered for her schoolyard tongue twister "She Sells Seashells".
I love the consistency on Ren's work, constantly referencing Great Britain, his home country. I thought I already knew a bunch of stuff about the country, since British authors are my favourite, my favourite tv show ever is The Skins, etc, but he's constantly proving me wrong. I love it.
You're one of the few reactors I click the like button before it's started, just in case I forget at the end! And Knox plus Ren - it's a no-brainer! You and your wife have a good weekend man.
Holy !@#$, Knox you are a savage on breaking these songs down! I’ve been watching now since I went down the Ren rabbit hole of music. this kid is something special, also throwing you some love as I’ve been watch your content also. Happy birthday to your wife, enjoy with your family Knox, love your reactions and your music, just listened to INNER CIRCLE, it's absolute 🔥🔥🔥, much love from India❤️❤️
Oh, man-I have been so eagerly awaiting this reaction! Knox, you’re my absolute favorite because you understand and explain the music production aspect, catch all the lyrics and visuals, and are well-read and well-rounded enough to understand the references. Watching your channel has opened up and deepened my appreciation of different artists (like yourself!) and genres, and I am so grateful for your time and content.
Ren is right - you do catch everything! !!! ! I've seen this video so many times and still missed so much - the connection between American and British Apprentice - that was great! Great reaction and thoughts on the issues!
I have to say, your reactions are made so much more wonderful and insightful by your cultural knowledge and understanding. So many people dont know a thing about any history or news outside of the us and your understanding and knowledge is fantastic. Incredibly insightful
As always - LOVE your reaction/breakdown; I definitely listen to things differently after having watched a few of your reaction videos. However.......I've been waiting for you to do Money Game part 2 to see if you'd catch one specific thing. This video came out some time ago, before Ren talked (sang?) about "She sells sea shells..." in Hi Ren. Love the way he references his other stuff in each song.
So I want to take the time to thank you for your high class content. As a music lover for many decades I have usually avoided rap (blinkered, I know) , then along came Ren and made me a believer. You have enabled me with your simple but in depth explanations of the schemes, the cadences and rhythms and have enabled me to better appreciate the genre. I also enjoy that you are an intelligent insightful person as you have proved by knowing all the UK specific references mentioned in his songs as well as getting the many visual multi layers that are awash in all of Ren's art work. As to this song, I have to agree that it is a masterfully simple way of explaining the new God, "money". As far as politics go , no matter where in the world it always puts me in mind of the quote from Henry Ford when he was interviewed about the model T Ford. He said, "You can have any colour you like, as long as it is black". Subscription added and I look forward to more of your high quality recommendations.
That's my favourite! (Well, that and 1990s, THE song when I've been sad long enough and ready to feel better.) I've been listening to Dominoes every night before going to sleep, because it eases my mind so well. I swear, it's single-handedly curing my insomnia...
You really do catch everything. Lyrics, production, and even the visuals too. Your brain is working fast for this! Very impressive. And lovely to see how much you like Ren too. He really is special.
The "sell time to a clock" line is deep as well as funny. There's a saying with some truth in it that 'man is the measure of all things' and in a certain sense we don't have time, we are time, yet taking time for ourselves/ away from work is an opportunity cost, hence selling time to a clock.
Always love your reactions - you always point out things I haven't noticed e.g. the gun being cocked (around the American Dad/America reference) and the coins falling (UK Govt). I also like the fact that you and Ren both referenced ladders while all the time there was a ladder behind you. Are you subliminally advertising your ladder sales business ??
@@ianhislop6782 it's been there for a while. And that cool hat, too, which I lowkey want for myself, even though I hate caps (on myself. They suit Knox, though).
I found this channel bc Knox Hill was doing reaction videos to Ren and subscribed because of Knox Hill’s deep dives and intelligent commentary of so many topics. Ren’s music helped me through some dark times last year. Now I can’t wait to tap into the music Knox Hill is making as well. Thanks so much for putting out this content.
Sharp reaction, nice to see a reactor from across the water to pick up so quickly on British references. Nice! I love your breakdowns and explanations.
I love this. Your reactions help me get more out of the songs as i now understand what is going on and when i listen to it i now get the little things which makes it more enjoyable. Also Im impressed at how much you know about the UK it seems like you know alot of history about it and the politics going on here.
Knox, over last few weeks I've been investigating loads of UA-cam reactionists to see how his art & craft is being received on both sides of the pond. Your reactions to Money Game prt 1 & 2 have been "the most accurately incitefull & eloquently explained" of them all! Nobody else has studied the lyrics of these songs in such depth & explained them so well 😊. I will be exploring your posts again as & when I have the time & also checking out some of your own work ok 🙂
I love how he has all of these lines that can be taken multiple ways “poisoning the veins” like doing the poisoning but also “poison in the veins” a product of that poisoning. And “rise through distorted lies” like rising above the distorted lies, but also they tell the distorted lies to get into power. Really ties together the thesis that we are all feeding the system, we are the victims but also the perpetrators.
Brilliant reaction! Thank you. This was my first intro to Ren and It’s so great to see someone else ‘get it’ as much :-) I can see why Ren agreed to an interview with you. Gonna search your reaction to sick boi now ;-)
I know that this is an old video, and you probably don't check it anymore. Thank you for what you do. You're one of my top people I come to when I want to see how people react to music. It's not just that, but the way that you really SEE things, what most people miss. For you it's not just about listening, but the layers and WHY of something. You think quick, have no problem looking at something again, and give your honest opinion on something. So thank you again, I love watching your videos. Through you I've not only found new people with amazing music, but have someone to go to when I want to see if anyone else catches something most people don't. Keep being amazing and doing what you love. That includes your music!
Knox, I entered your rabbit hole (ooh-err) about a week ago and I've since watched loads of your vids. Music is a huge part of my life, but I've got zero skill in being able to dissect and analyse it. I know what I love but I have no idea of the why... I'm in my late 30s and thanks to watching your videos, I'm finally starting to undersrand the 'why'. Not only that but you blow my mind with your scope of knowledge. Im a brit and your references to british music/politics is amazing. Im now a subscriber and life-long fan. Thanks mate!
On this channel you get way more value then your time spent to listen. Great comments backed by the good arguments. Thank you for your effort, knowledge and art.
the more I watch your reactions, the more I am impressed with your eloquent and very intelligent breakdowns. you should be a teacher. I think that if you brought you reactions to a classroom so many kids would "get it" and you wouldn't be confined to a single subject. you are truly a stellar reactor.
Money Game part 1 is great, but part 2 is freaking brilliant. One of my favourite Ren songs, so many truths spoken and so well told, he says so much and makes it so easy to understand for everyone
Fantastic reaction, Knox is a great rapper and i hope you don't get angry with me an even better reactor, you break down bars and schemes, flows etc but you also have a great amount of knowledge of a country which you don't even come from which gives you an advantage over other reactors from the U.S as you already have some background over the subject matter. I don't think or maybe you do how it much that impresses your U.K followers that you even know our Actors, Politicians, places for example, please keep that up. Your my Favourite reactor full stop brother.
great reaction as usual. For me it reminds me of the farce involved with Prime drinks. That certainly followed this approach. Also to note, the back story of Shell Oil. "The origin of the Shell name can be traced back to the seashells that Marcus Samuel senior imported from the Far East during the late 19th Century. When his sons Marcus junior and Samuel were looking for a name for the kerosene that they were exporting to Asia, they chose Shell." She sells sea shells, sell oil as well.!!!!! Brilliant.

Yes
I love it.
The breadth of your knowledge never ceases to amaze me, Knox, keep it up, chap, much needed!
Have a great birthday with your wife 🎉
Thanks for yet another great Ren reaction 🫶🏻
Love this one!! And yes, Ren is special 🥰
Love your UK knowledge man, you’re clearly well educated and not just another copy and paste UA-camr, keep up the good work
Fun fact #2: Knox is the shit!
Undeniable break down skills and spitting true knowledge!
Keep doing want your doing lifting each other up and not each other tearing down! Faith, Hope & Love will bering us together if we let it!
Happy birthday to your wife, enjoy with your family Knox, love your reactions and your music, just listened to INNER CIRCLE, it's absolute 🔥🔥🔥, much love from India❤️❤️
Here it is, the song with which I discovered Ren. Been waiting for this ever since Knox started reacting to him! 🤩
incredible review very impressed by your British knowledge as a Brit who visited the US every 6 months for 20 years -masterful Knox!
The way Ren's lyrics blend with the visuals of his video are a masterwork. Beauty. Facts.
Yes! It's one of my favorites of his! I've been waiting for your reaction!
it amazes me how you get literally every reference and bar. makes the reactions really entertaining and insightful. keep it up man you're killing it.
Ren is right - you do catch everything! !!! ! I've seen this video so many times and still missed so much - the connection between American and British Apprentice - that was great! Great reaction and thoughts on the issues!
Love your reactions and how you never miss a bar. I need to hear you break down Ren love music parts 1, 2 and 3 😂
I have to say, your reactions are made so much more wonderful and insightful by your cultural knowledge and understanding.
Both of you I have to give credit for your educated few and the intelligent way of sharing it
A Rare quality these days
Thanks a lot
Fight the Power
Q. You want Ren? You want the best breakdown humanly possible?
A. You want Knox Hill
Nailed it again > bravo ! Nice that you went through this one of Ren. Dominoes by Ren will get you to some complentary part of those money games.
That's my favourite! (Well, that and 1990s, THE song when I've been sad long enough and ready to feel better.) I've been listening to Dominoes every night before going to sleep, because it eases my mind so well. I swear, it's single-handedly curing my insomnia...
@@Zinetha Ren is for sure a beautiful therapy !
Was waiting for this one. "sell water to a fish, sell time to a clock"
Yo man, hope you missus has an awesome bday, big love to the knox family ♥, so excited for you to break down his sea shell analogy
There's a false scarcity of time. That is the very root of the problem.
😂 I was curious about the ladder too.
@@ianhislop6782 it's been there for a while. And that cool hat, too, which I lowkey want for myself, even though I hate caps (on myself. They suit Knox, though).
You nailed it, man. Best reaction to this song so far!
This is where the lyric from Hi Ren comes from: Ren, mate, we've heard it all before. (mockingly) "Ugh, she sells seashells by the seashore."
Great reaction,Thanks Knox ❤
Thanks!
I was waiting for the second part for a while now ❤️❤️🔥🔥
Yes! Love your Ren breakdowns ❤
Thank you that was amazing reaction ❤❤
I really enjoy watching Knox because he’s respectful, misses nothing and communicates thoughts and intellect so clearly.
Well said Knox. I really appreciate your perspective, always find things to learn from. Money game series is Ren's best work, just amazing
Happy birthday to your wife!
And nice work on your new songs, both you and Ren! Listened to both on my way to work this morning. 😊
I reckon knox could breakdown the phone book and I'd still watch it and love it 😂 😂
😂 rite.
Holy shit! Not only do I agree, I just realized that I cannot remember the last time I actually saw a physical phone book.
Your knowledge of everything, including British politics and culture, blows me away every time. Thanks from an appreciative Brit!
I just love how knowledgable you are, it is so refreshing - it really really adds to the reaction.
You are so knowledgeable and great at explaining Ren's music as well as just about EVERYTHING!
I love this. Your reactions help me get more out of the songs as i now understand what is going on and when i listen to it i now get the little things which makes it more enjoyable. Also Im impressed at how much you know about the UK it seems like you know alot of history about it and the politics going on here.
We must protect him, indeed. But we also have to protect you. Great reaction once again that made this song even better.
Once again, Hill, Knox it out the park with a home run analysis! This is another win for Ren as well! Love you guys!
Dang, you stole my line "Knox it out the park"! 👏
Thank you. Holding him close to my heart.
Great reaction!! I love how you are so knowledgeable about the UK. Hats off to you Sir.... Happy Birthday to your wife xx
Gonna search your reaction to sick boi now ;-)
Best breakdowns in the business with great knowledge. KNOX ROCKS 💯🤘
Knox - thanks for being one of the most thoughtful and intelligent reactors out there. Love it!
You’re a great reactor/analyst. Very smart and very entertaining.
On this channel you get way more value then your time spent to listen. Great comments backed by the good arguments.
Thank you for your effort, knowledge and art.
I just love when you go in full analysis mode. Those are the best reactions. 😊
the more I watch your reactions, the more I am impressed with your eloquent and very intelligent breakdowns. you should be a teacher.
Happy b-day, Mrs. KH!🎉
Happy Birthday to the Missus!!! Loving your content today thank you.
Comment for the algo. You know we love the kid. 🔥
Impressed how aware you are of UK politics.
FANTASTIC reaction. Knox, you're amazing.
great reaction as usual. Brilliant.
