@@jonwacken4312 Funnily enough, the DEI casting of the black elf and black dwarf are the lesser of the series problems, its the white casting that is terrible, they literally picked the worst possible actors for Galadriel, Celembrimbor and many others
I think ths cast isn't the problem here. Yeah, a few of them looks dope but actors playing Cirdan, Durin 4th, Elrond (to some extent), Disa (even if she is made up character), Miriel and Adar, were good ones. I find that its what they say base on script that sometimes make them a lame character. So, yes the problem lies on the writers, which makes the life of the cast hard. But the few ones I mentioned, by their performance make the show a bit good in a way.

If you listen to Andy Sirkis reading of the Silmarilian, he reads a letter Tolkien wrote to his friend. He writes, that he hates allergoies, and he wants his stories to be "just stories", and not conveying a hidden agenda. On the other hand, his greatest wish was, to create a fantasy world, from which other writes would take inspiration, and write new stories, that would make his world bigger. Not sure he actually wanted anyone to re-tell his own stories, and "enrich" them with so many hidden agendas though.
Not exactly. Tolkien "hates" allegories only when they're there for the sake of being there. A story should be told to only convey a story. Yet, LOTR is full of allegories even though it was never Tolkien first intention to write the story around those allegories in mind. Or so he says. That's more in line with its letter. Tolkien doesn't hate allegories. He hates a story which is built around an allegory. That's bit different imo.
Just like ROP cast and story is built around multiples allegories (diversity, western evilness, woman power and son on). But not primarily around the Middle Earth and the characters arc.
Anyway, as much as I love Tolkien's writing and world building, the man didn't love many things outside his own work. So, I take his comments with a grain of salt. Not sure he's actually like people to deep dive in building more LOTR stories.
@@mimmim13aiv Thanks, I stand corrected! Regarding creating stories within his world, D&D players have been doing this for many years. If a writer were to actually build a story within Tolkiens world, even if it took place in Khand, and had 100% respect for existing lore, I advise they get permission from the Tolkien estate first. Which would probably not happen.

i can't remember any film, any series, any general piece of entertainment media that was this hyped, had so much potential, such a gigantic budget and turned out to be such an apocalyptically horrible, disgraceful, abomination of an adaptation of the source material.
The only entertaining part is the reviews.
The original Lord of the Rings films had a coherent world, ethnic and demographic, stayed as close to source material as possible, transported real meaning and depth in the story, had character development, had top costumes and absolutely stellar music/themes.
Sigh.
The Peter Hackson films are not the original Lord of the Rings. What’s wrong with you? And they also didn’t stay close to the book.

@@reek4062 You can NEVER make a film equal to a book to 100% . Yes, Peter Jackson and his team changes several things. BUT the major issue is, that they kept the spirit of his lore. Even the Hobbit films were not that bad, as they included some more motifs of Middle Earth, e.g. from the Unfinished Tales. In contrast, the RoP series by Amazon has NOTHING to do with Tolkien except for some names and places. It is really sad. What could be done with the source material and all the ressources in the right hands? At least some sceneries are nicely designed, however, forget about the rest.
Let alone painstaking focus on details, many of them never to be shown in the movies. It was a work of love,and nerd passion, that could never be surpassed in this century, or the next. I recommend visiting Bag End movie set.

I still think Sauron is 1 of the least vile characters in this show. What has he really done? He acted violently in self defense and in the face of the 1 who tried to cowardly murder him. Yes, he ate a human, but when he was a blob struggling to survive. When the damn mountain decided to explode he even was trying to help and save people. Galadriel wasn't, just saying.

From the first 5 minutes of Season 1 Ep 1 this was doomed to fail. Galadriel is supposed to be the most beautiful, charming, enchanting and elegant creature in middle earth...they made her a girl-boss. Anyone who's read Tolkien, or watched the trilogy could never not be insulted by what they did.
When you try to make your evil incarnate sympathetic so you make up a new character to take the role but he is also sympathetic so you also make his army of corrupted bodies sympathetic with family morals.
