*You will get awesome results. **do7.pl/DStabilizer** Also people will stare at you because you look like a boss. ONLY drawback is that switching lenses is not as easy as I thought it would be. You can just switch the lens and recalibrate quickly if you're moving fast to catch things like a weeding while its going on, but you need to have the stand nearby on a level surface. The thing cannot calibrate for the weight change unless its sitting on the stand. Just a heads up. If you have like 60 seconds to take your time auto calibrating after your change your lens, then you're good to go. Now that I think about it.... choose a lens and just stick with it... That makes it easier.*
It's an ok gimbal. I was planning to buy one but opted for another maker instead for a few reasons: a. the running footage suffers from shake, b. it's heavier than I wanted, and c. in inverted mode you have to shoot with the camera upside down and correct the footage in post (big headache) this gimbal also never appeared to be properly calibrated during the review. it was always drifting but gimbals can be set up to allow calibration in the field to deal with this (without the stand or app). I think the next version of the Ronin M will be the one to get. This one is a bit 'first generationary'. Also comparing it to handheld is a bit of non test. Comparing it to a steadicam would be a MUCH better comparison because that's the alternative people who are considering a 3 axis gimbal are truly considering, not running handled. Even a comparison to a shoulder rig would be better.
Great review. I just picked up a Moza Lite which borrows from the Ronin pretty liberally but you can use it inverted, making it easy to put down without a stand and you get a more practical thumb controller.
great review, I'm a big fan of gimbals since i discover them, about 4 years ago, just a little tip, you were holding the feiyu gimbal wrong, when you were walking you get better footage on a 45 degree angle.
I am not a professional video person, but this device so far has impressed me. Although would have to learn how to do the calibration in the field as quickly as possibly. You guys plan on using this when you do weddings?
I really like this video. Good review of the Ronin-M and GoPro stabilization and was fun ! No boring sitting at a table review like everyone else. "Bueller, Bueller..."
Lee! I;m sure you may have used a glide cam before? The glide cam looks pretty simple, not perfect in all situations but might be the right choice for some users.
Very good review. Have you ever tried the DV sportster vest from varizoom with the hollywood lite stabilizer? I am curious about your thoughts on that one, if you have tried it.
Excellent and entertaining review. I hope DJI is paying you for this . I ordered my Ronin-M from DJI a couple of weeks ago .... still waiting but anxious to get started with it!
Thanks for the video man that was, so far, the best review I've seen of the ronin m with all the hands on reviewing. Also, is the only difference between the ronin and the ronin m the weight capacity?
have you done the physical balancing before replying on the gimbal to adjust itself? Im a Ronin user (just got my unit 3 weeks back), I have tune once and thats it much better than came tv version.
Not a BS considering if you have a light setup (Sony A6000 + 1670) you just have to mark where the plate rest, the axis measurement and snapshot the ronin app figures. You say you need to tune each time means your camera on the ronin plate shift tiny bit to the left or roght that cause you to setup frequently. Have you applied the 45 degrees rule to check if your system is balance? Have you checked out tutorials about balancing 3 axis? For heavy setup (D750 + Sig351.4) the balancing is hard to a point you need rubber pads on the ronin plate before the heavy lens slide to the left/right of the plate and cause instability. I have 6 adverts in Malaysia/Singapore/Korea with the ronin m, Im qualified to say that you need more understanding in the system. Plus the fstopper guy didnt do fine tuning balance and expect the system to self sustain on the heavy side, that not efficient as it burn more power just to stabilize the system and directly affect the balance (system have to balance your mistakes on top of keeping it stable as you use it) in used oppose if you done proper fine tuning.
Movi doesnt have this issue agree but do factor the price differences and if would a average person afford the movi m5/m10 solution over the ronin m. Pay more get a better system, dont complain. If you knew first hand about the ronin/movi system you would know best about ronin m/m5 being catered for lite-mid setup versus heavy setups like NikonD750+2470. fstoppers got it wrong. Ronin/m10 does well with heavy. You comments lean toward discrediting me. Good? Not so, refer to my previous comment how I explain lite vs heavy setup. Give other users to understand ronin m better since is much affordable investment to the majority. Knowing first hand vs using first hand are both separate thing. Working on set vs the actual person filming is also two different things. Do better, your phantom youtube acc is highly doubtful. If you're in the film making industry your comments were more specific and detailed, not general.
+CRAIGS LIST ........it's been a year since writing your comment. You clearly have a wealth of knowledge, have you encountered any gimbals since than at a more affordable price than the movi (for cameras in ursa mini weight class 5lb/2.3kg) that you would recommend for people starting out? do you have any thoughts on the Ronin 2?
is there a button or wireless controller that the dji ronin has so you can press record easily instead of pressing it manually on the camera everytime?
+WorksProductionFilms A remote shutter of some kind should work pretty decently. There are various different types - wired and wireless, branded and generic, etc. Google should help narrow it down for something that works with your camera. There's a wireless remote for the Ronin/Ronin-M that fits on the handlebars, but it only controls the Ronin (eg, calibration, movement, etc), not the camera.
Can one of you tell me .. On DJI Ronin-M .... What lens is preferable and how to keep the focus in control? What frame settings should be on the video?
I enjoyed the video but the comparison was unnecessary. Obviously the ronin will smash on handheld video but, is it $1000+ better than a glidecam or even a diy gimbal rig? That's the review I would have liked to see.
i can always tell immediately what footage was shot on a ronin, because it is not smooth at all. it is jerky in the pans and while walking, nothing near as smooth as a steadycam
The drifting problem with the Ronin M was annoying as FUCK, I lost so much time on set trying correct it, but it was a firmware problem, they took so much time to correct it but I think it's not a problem anymore now with the latest firmware
CRAIGS LIST Go on DJI's website, you can install the Ronin computer tool, then once it's installed and the Ronin is connected with USB, you can update everything on the Ronin. It's possible that the updates fail, so I had to do them multiple time to be sure the Ronin was correctly updated.
The drunken part was hilarious! I just have to disagree about the Steadicam comparison. I would say it is much easier to balance a steadicam/glidecam and there is no calibration at all. Also a glidecam can stand on the ground without a stand. And a 3-axis controller has a battery, whereas a steadicam stabilizes with mechanics. But the Ronin is still awesome and indispensable for a lot of shots. At the end of the day you need both systems. ;-)
Given the aweful (and sometimes not even usable at all) performance of the DJI App for the Phantom drones... I must say the fact that the controls work by an app from DJI is nearly a dealbreaker... even connecting a seperate device (smartphone) is so cumbersome... why would they not just include the controls directly at the ronin???
We have 3 and not one of the leans with current firmware and a correct balance... I am sure DJI will be fine but I doth think you guys realize the damage you could do a small company with vids like this.
+Ray Bradlau Leans? Like at the beginning of the video? It actually mentions this issue in the manual. This wasn't a negative review of the Ronin at all plus DJI is one of the most profitable businesses in the world right now. They are the opposite of a small company. www.theverge.com/2015/5/6/8554429/dji-75-million-funding-investment-accel-10-billion-valuation
Can one of you tell me .. On DJI Ronin-M .... What lens is preferable and how to keep the focus in control? What frame settings should be on the video?
doesn't it make more sense to compare a steady cam vs gimbal?

As always, your reviews are as entertaining as they come while still retaining factual value.
Absolutely the best review to date that I've seen for the Ronin M. Nice work brother.
It's an ok gimbal. I was planning to buy one but opted for another maker instead for a few reasons: a. the running footage suffers from shake, b. it's heavier than I wanted, and c. in inverted mode you have to shoot with the camera upside down and correct the footage in post (big headache)

At last a real-life and practical review of that thing.
Turn the handles upside down and rotate the handle sideways... this allows you to put the ronin on the ground wihtout the stand.
Great review. I just picked up a Moza Lite which borrows from the Ronin pretty liberally but you can use it inverted, making it easy to put down without a stand and you get a more practical thumb controller.
Properly good review, thanks so much for putting this together. Love that you get drunk whilst using the kit. It answers so many of questions.
Awesome to see the clean shots around Charleston! I've gotta get my hands on a ronin
great review, I'm a big fan of gimbals since i discover them, about 4 years ago, just a little tip, you were holding the feiyu gimbal wrong, when you were walking you get better footage on a 45 degree angle.
Great video guys! Can't wait to see more.
I am not a professional video person, but this device so far has impressed me. Although would have to learn how to do the calibration in the field as quickly as possibly. You guys plan on using this when you do weddings?
Best review I have seen yet, just bought on, but haven't really used it yet. your video made me feel I made the right move.
You can use the TRIM function to adjust for any tilts
I really like this video. Good review of the Ronin-M and GoPro stabilization and was fun ! No boring sitting at a table review like everyone else. "Bueller, Bueller..."

Super curious to know what mic you used for this video?
Excellent and entertaining review. I hope DJI is paying you for this . I ordered my Ronin-M from DJI a couple of weeks ago .... still waiting but anxious to get started with it!
You need to balance before you turn it on.
great review! Just wondering how is the battery performance on Ronin?
Great review !!!
Great review! Thanks guys, def. fun to watch and informative!
Though there's one question left, can I fit a Nikon D750 into the ronin m?
Sure!! It can fit a Red dragon, so actually it can handle your D750
+Tony Luangrath A dragon on a Ronin M? Already go it, as well as the D750...everything working fine! :)
+FWP ART It worked !! a red on a ronin M :) DJI also made a new Ronin MX that can go with the M600! Find it out
Great video and love your guy bar scenes great work!!! Also you friend with out the ronin looks like Bighead from Silicon Valley haha!!
love this review, keep up the good work
make it sense to use a zoom lens 18-35mm as an example or is a fisheye / 35 mm more sense to use? thanks for the review
Thanks for the video man that was, so far, the best review I've seen of the ronin m with all the hands on reviewing. Also, is the only difference between the ronin and the ronin m the weight capacity?

You should try using this with Bungie Jump you guys did in NZ
Awesome! Thanks for this! Would've loved to have seen some running shots.
I reckon David could have stabilised himself more by wearing his all terrain weather boots from Iceland lol
I was more impress with the camera you use to shoot the entire review. The low light and quality was great. What is the camera?
I own the SicVisuals Ghost Pro 2. Really heavy but very stable. Wonder if you guys ever heard of them?

Thank you guys for the review, but how do you focus with that thing?
Need to do another one now with the Osmo, the game has changed.
Is there another way to handle it instead keep this load with protracted arms like a bikers of custom bike?
Love this, you guys are funny!
Can one of you tell me .. On DJI Ronin-M .... What lens is preferable and how to keep the focus in control?

Haha , that's what I call an entertaining review.
Awesome and comprehensive. Pretty incredible :)
I enjoyed the video but the comparison was unnecessary. Obviously the ronin will smash on handheld video but, is it $1000+ better than a glidecam or even a diy gimbal rig? That's the review I would have liked to see.
Man I want it but there are a lot of bad reviews on B&H about defects or bugs
LOL, great review ! Can you make a comparison with Glidecam DGS? thanks
great review guys
What was the backup cam the girl was using? Sony something? The stabilization was jumpy.
Awesome review and awesome kit too..
"We're gonna do a little bit of a t--"
*fuck it*

i can always tell immediately what footage was shot on a ronin, because it is not smooth at all. it is jerky in the pans and while walking, nothing near as smooth as a steadycam
I'm sold, I'm getting one!
I rather see you guys party and get drunk the hell with the ronin 😂😂 I forgot what i came here
how do you add that 10% stabilizer? Please respond with the steps if possible :] Great review!
+ZurisaddaiCJR they add it on post , using after effects for example( warp stabilizer)
The drifting problem with the Ronin M was annoying as FUCK, I lost so much time on set trying correct it, but it was a firmware problem, they took so much time to correct it but I think it's not a problem anymore now with the latest firmware

Movi with M15 from Freefly Systems make that DJI Ronin looks like a Toy.
+Kesmish Duarte Well no sh*t, it's $15,000 vs. $1399. It better.
What town is this?
how can i get the mobile app?and is it available for android?

can camcorders be used with the ronin m?
Hi how you set AF in your camera on Ronin?

just to make money
Which lens should I buy to shoot wide angle with blur background? I am use canon 70d.
The perfect wide angle lens with blur background is the "Sigma 18-35 f1.8 ART"
tokina 11-16 f2.8, although for background blur your subjects need to be quite close.
+Johanntai97 thanks I had bought sigma 18-35 quite good !
Why are they in flipflops...?
How bout gopro gimbal vs OSMO? Hit me with the deets breh.
hey where are you guys based in charleston
Perfect tool for libdub stuff
How were you able to keep the shots focused?
+Clodd Pierre Everything is in focus. Set focus to infinity or keep subject at set focal distance.
That simple? wow thanks
The ground is leaning to the left, sure
the fact u have to calibrate this with a app thats only on ios vs android sucks
Why U no use a7s in lowlight situations? lol
Def a sponsored post lmao
omg but feyui comparing to ronin - how come?! they're uncomparable
i tried the dji with a friend its awosome
Good stuff
thats the most expensive counter weight Ive seen lol
i think this ground is leaning to the left lol
"don't stop"
that's what she said
Great review man! We watched this before we made our purchase. Many thanx. Check out some of our sample footage on our page!

That low walk... lol.
to be honest, doesnt look that "smooth"... if you want it better , you have to use an stabilizer software at the end... i stay with my glidecam
I'm upset by the flip-flops surely your feet are unstable in those? 😜
Doing "Seady Footage" on flip flops???.....comon....that´s unfair......Where are the Handeld professional???
If only it wasnt $2000 CAD
Yeah
HAhahaha man u r really Drunk
Perfect city to shoot in! #Charleston

Disgusting abuse of alcohol. Thumbs down.
Can one of you tell me .. On DJI Ronin-M .... What lens is preferable and how to keep the focus in control?
