@@user-xh4mg2uc7e No, the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay is not based on King Louis XVI's speech before his execution by guillotine. The inspiration for the song comes from multiple sources, but it is not specifically tied to the historical events surrounding King Louis XVI.
"Viva la Vida" explores themes of power, loss, and redemption, and it is not a direct narrative of any specific historical event or person. While the song's lyrics may resonate with themes of revolution or the rise and fall of leaders, it is a work of art that allows for multiple interpretations.
It's important to note that Coldplay's lead vocalist, Chris Martin, has mentioned in interviews that the song was partially inspired by the painting "Liberty Leading the People" by Eugène Delacroix, which depicts the July Revolution of 1830 in France. However, the song's lyrics and overall meaning are not solely tied to this specific historical event or any particular figure.

I remember back in school, one of the girls asked why they'd kill the women and children too. I said it's similar to potato chips, once you get started it's so difficult to stop.
Killing women and children of the counterrevolutionaries was often part of the plan. Those women, the thinking went, were very likely to breed new insurgents. People in that region were basically seen as backward hicks standing in the way of modernity.
Revolutionary General François Joseph Westermann allegedly had the following to say:
_"There is no more Vendée, Republican citizens. It died beneath our free sword, with its women and its children. I have just buried it in the swamps and the woods of Savenay. Following the orders that you gave to me, I crushed the children beneath the horses' hooves, massacred the women who, those at least, will bear no more brigands. I do not have a single prisoner to reproach myself with. I have exterminated them all..."_

GalloViking GalloViking that’s interesting as well, because back before social media etc, if you were in the lower class, you probably didn’t know the face of your monarch unless you went to the capital city and actually saw him, or on a banknote/coin.
Napoleon had a knack for getting the attention of influential politicians. He actually got tight with Robespierre and his brother, and after both were executed, he was imprisoned but found innocent.
This revolution is so interesting. It shows that you can all agree that things need to change yet disagree violently about what change looks like. And even pursuing the loftiest ideals can end up in inhuman loss of life and power struggles causing chaos.

One of the major figures of French Revolution was Louis Antoine de Saint Just, better known as "Saint Just". He was one of the closest friends of Robespierre. Death penalty for King Louis XVI was basically Saint Just's idea and it was him who started executing people over minor suspicions thus he was know as "Archangel of Terror".
Btw, you are an amazing narrator, I really admire your way of explanation and I really like your videos based on revolutions.
The story that Robespierre and SJ had people executed over even the most minor offenses isn’t actually true. It was made up by the Thermidorians so they could use Robespierre and his allies as scapegoats and thus get away with their own crimes. Other than that, thanks for this comment; this vid made absolutely no mention of Saint-Just (or other allies of Robespierre, such as Couthon) so it’s important to note somewhere.

France; Hey, we did it guys! We're free of our Monarchy!
Napoleon; *Hold my baguette*
yea revolutions to overthrow a monarchy normally work like this. You can gather enough support to get rid of the ruler but then everyone has to agree on a new system to replace it... and it all goes downhill from there.
tenofprime well... for a short while, in the grand scheme of things.
France today, is the envy of most of the world. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it’s better than living in 99/100 other countries on the planet right now.
A few years of violence and instability has now led to a prosperous and beautiful place to live.
Same goes for most other nations which went through violent and troubling times in their past. Now these nations are among the ‘developed world’ and the most stable places to be a citizen of.
@@DrSardonicus Too bad that "beautiful place to live" is falling apart, because French people are too soft, blind or just stupid to stop the new reign of terror that threatens the country and all the values the French hold dear since the revolution.
@@Jinppa "reign of terror" is a nice term, but maybe you could be more specific instead of throwing stupidities like that.
well in fact, Napoleon did preserve the value of the revolution. He got people's favor, he didn't chop anyone's head. He brought people money.
