8:45 fun fact: Louie actually did try to give a speech before he died, but was executed before he could. The song Viva La Vida is a interpretation of what the speech might have been.
@@Apk-y1y No, the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay is not based on King Louis XVI's speech before his execution by guillotine. The inspiration for the song comes from multiple sources, but it is not specifically tied to the historical events surrounding King Louis XVI. "Viva la Vida" explores themes of power, loss, and redemption, and it is not a direct narrative of any specific historical event or person. While the song's lyrics may resonate with themes of revolution or the rise and fall of leaders, it is a work of art that allows for multiple interpretations. It's important to note that Coldplay's lead vocalist, Chris Martin, has mentioned in interviews that the song was partially inspired by the painting "Liberty Leading the People" by Eugène Delacroix, which depicts the July Revolution of 1830 in France. However, the song's lyrics and overall meaning are not solely tied to this specific historical event or any particular figure.

Fun fact, American author Thomas Paine (he wrote "Common Sense") was a member of the National Assembly, and he wanted to deport Louis XVI to *_America._* The Jacobins didn't want to deport Louis because they knew wherever in Europe they sent him, he'd inevitably end up in Habsburg territory, and be reinstated once Austria and Prussia inevitably beat France. Paine told them that if they sent him to America, he'd be cut off from his royal relatives and their resources, the Americans could keep a close eye on him to make sure he didn't leave and go back to Europe, and he'd have to learn how to legitimately be a regular citizen. As a major bonus, not killing the king would make the revolution look way better in the eyes of the other European states. Robespierre and Marat basically called him a bleeding heart dumbass and put him in prison.

Napoleon; *Hold my baguette*
yea revolutions to overthrow a monarchy normally work like this. You can gather enough support to get rid of the ruler but then everyone has to agree on a new system to replace it... and it all goes downhill from there.
@@DrSardonicus Too bad that "beautiful place to live" is falling apart, because French people are too soft, blind or just stupid to stop the new reign of terror that threatens the country and all the values the French hold dear since the revolution.
