    I took my 380 down for cleaning and when i tried to put it back together, all hell broke loose! parts flying crap gone forever. I literally threw it in the garbage can! after work, yea, i dug it out because, I've seen on y.tube that Hi-Point backs up their warranty no matter how many owners had it. The long and short of it is they replaced all missing parts and polished it! I got mine back in 10 day's!! Looked like a new gun! Thx Hi-Point...

    If you just give hi point a call you can send them your firearm with mags and they will fix all those issues for free!! I just got mine back from hi point and they polished the crap out of that feed ramp and updated all my springs, firing pin and even sent out a ghost ring sight all free!!! Now it did cost me 40 to send it out, but it was well worth it!! They also space out the mags.

    Nice video! One thing that I noticed that many Hi-Point owners fail to talk about is that Hi-Point's warranty is the BEST in the industry. People that snub these guns, I just simply ignore. I don't have time for gun snobs. For the money and warranty, a Hi-Point is a tremendous value and should be a part of any gun collection. Just my opinion.

    Important side note... when putting your hi-point back together make for damn sure you dont put the seer in backwards. If you do and manage to get the slide on it will not slide all the way back anymore, and you cannot get the slide back off either.

    ive had a hi point .40 cal for about 10 years. in that time i have also owned and ultimately gotten rid of a ruger, 2 shitty ass glocks. and one taurus. and yet some how the "junk" gun is still my preferred weapon. i will admit that i have a few others that i prefer and that i carry. the .40 is way to big to conceal carry. but this gun is truly a fantastic pistol. especially for the price, the magnificent service, and yes... the dependability. i know all the glock nazis will be bewildered by that comment, but i have had NO issues with my Hi point. not one. if this thing were just a little smaller i would definitely use it as my daily carry gun. i dont care who you are, the hi point is a fantastic weapon. especially for the dirt cheap price and the priceless warranty and service. the company is truly amazing.

    Very informative. I'm looking to buy a pistol for the first time and have a very limited budget. I've been doing my homework and for the money these Hi Points seem the way to go. I personally think they look ok. And all the videos like this one helping people troubleshoot issues to make them more reliable makes all the difference. Thanks.

    I had a Hi Point 45 acp and LOVED it. People can say what they want but with a little tinkering they are very nice guns. Even Glock owners scrap the sights, trigger, internals, grip, etc. The high point warranty I put to the test and low and behold they came through with shining colors unlike many other manufactures. I see a .40 in my very near future.

    I'm Ohio proud. Live in S.W. Ohio. Hi Points are made in Ohio. Any gun (as stated in the comments) needs some tweaking. I'm very glad that I have viewed this video. I recently purchased the 380 CF from an auction site. Just looking up the mag slot, I can see where the nose of the bullets have been dragging on the bottom of the feed ramp. I can look inside the ejection port and see there hasn't been any polishing done to the feed ramp and the gun itself hasn't been oiled or cleaned. I plan to address all these issues before purchasing a single bullet to shoot through the gun. I enjoy a challenge! I have one of the much spurned JA-22 pistols, also. The videos found on UA-cam for the JA-22 were a real education when it comes to making any semi auto gun reliable. Thanks for the video!

    Seems people hate these guns.. but most people are too helpless to do much more than change a lightbulb themselves. I enjoy tweaking/learning and improving any tool/machine I own so it seems like a good gun for people like me. Looks like with a little love it can become as reliable as anything else. That and you can get 4 of them for the price of something "decent".

    Another issue that has been discovered is the lrho ( last round hold open) lever is a little long. I noticed on my cf380 that the nose of the bullet was hitting the lrho lever when they would advance in the mag. I filed it down just a little bit, so the bullets cleared it, and my follower in the mag still made contact to hold the slide open after firing my last round. This issue was brought to my attention on the hi point forum

    I just did everything personal defense says, but I would recommend using steel wool instead of sandpaper. It will polish it great! I took off every bit of powder coat that way. Just make sure that you don't get steel wool where it doesn't belong, and if you do be sure to blow it all out. It took several adjustments to the mag ears, but with patience and diligence, it can work. Polishing feed ramp and rails helps much. I will be doing this when I get back to The States. Will not be using steel wool as someone recommended since pieces of steel wool are likely to break off and get lodged in moving parts. Plan to use 3M WetOrDry silica carbide paper and wet it first so the abraded bits stick to the paper. Swap out paper often and avoid issues with grit getting into moving parts. Great video. Thanks.

    I have had my Hi-Point C-9 9mm for over three years now and I go to the range and shoot quite often and have yet to have even one FTF or FTE. I did polish the feed ramp as soon as I got it but other than that mod and some new grips I have had to do nothing but keep it clean and maintained. Haters can say whatever they want but I took the extra money I saved and got more ammo with it. Next I am going to get the .45 acp and do the same mods to it.

    I am thinking about buying my friends High Point 40 S&W. the gun shoots great! But I'm having an issue with the slide locking in position when I load a new mag. the only way I can get the gun to function is to drop the mag then the slide will release. load the mag then rack the slide and it's all good. unless this issue is resolved I don't think I'll be buying the gun. I have a High Point 380 and it's been a great little gun.

    The only reason I ma looking for fixes is my neighbor has one and at this point it's all he has & can't afford anything else right now. So I'm trying to help him out by educating myself on the operation and maintenance of this less than perfect low cost firearm. Thanks for the info.

  • @thatcoyote7110

    A simple way to polish the feed ramp is to stick a bit of fine sandpaper onto the feed ramp and rub it in a vertical manner with the rubber end of a pencil. Doesn't "polish" it per se but it does get the powder coating off and the vertical marks left by the sandpaper does improve feeding. First 100 "break in" rounds of my Hi Point with this feed ramp mod I only had one FTF (after tweaking the new mag lips as well).

  • @smallblock337
    @smallblock337 6 років тому

    Hi, the problem of stove pipping in auto loading firearms is 2 fold. First if you are using ammo that is of a lowish velocity rating it is likely also to not have enough pressure on the bolt spring to compress it 100%. Under this condition the bolt will close 50% too fast, thus catching the spent casing as it tries to escape the ejection port.

  • @smallblock337
    @smallblock337 6 років тому +1

    It seems I got cut off early myself. As I was saying regarding stove pipping, there is a second issue with the overall lengths of the leaded bullets. The Manufacturers tend to make the overall length slightly too long by a few thousands of an inch that causes the bullet to catch going up the ramp. On jacketed ammo, Manufacturers do opposite making them on the shorter size overall. The shorter length cycles much more freely. The longer lead bullet is like an 18 wheeler trying to make a right turn that is too tight.

    • @TheRealWeirdoC
      @TheRealWeirdoC 10 років тому +1

      It should. The disconnect is applying pressure directly to the side of the mag, creating friction. I took my disconnect out years ago, and the mags fall out every time under their own empty weight.

    The fins on the mag are supposed to bent in not out. When they are tipped in just a hair they hold the follow-up round a tad higher so it doesn't dive. Also helps control stove piping.

    I don't think Hipoints suck. I just bought a C9. What does suck are the magazines. I adjusted the feed lips, removed paint from and polished the feed ramp and neither of my magazines will feed a single round. The rounds nose dive because of the poor weak mag springs. A nose diving round has nothing to do with polishing trigger parts. It is simply due to the mags themselves.

It needed work so I sent it back to Hi Point & they pretty much re-did everything & gave me a magazine for my troubles. I have found that the c9 will shoot more reliably and avoid cycling issues if I use a High Velocity 9mm round - sort of like a 9 Plus P round. I polished feed ramp & adjusted the feed lips on the mags. Great Video. Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.

I hated taking it to the range, jamtacular mess. After taking a dremel to the ramp and polishing, feeding problems greatly reduced... but still, the mag falling out.. maybe I'm fingering the mag release, it is in kind of an odd position.

    I bought a hi point as my first firearm, and all I gotta say is, "ef" the haters. For a budget gun, if You take care of it, it does exactly what you need it to do.. I now have several other pistols but I will always keep my p.o.s hi point because it has never let me down!

    Both my C9 and .40 S@W lost the magazine disconnect immediately. I hated it. I haven't polished feed ramps yet but haven't had any problems either. Had them both for about two years. I did have to adjust the feed lips of the C9 factory mags, but not the after market.

  • @spider78612
    @spider78612 10 років тому

    Don't forget to polish the top feed ramp also, that's where mine was catching. These feed ramps are just machined with a plunge of a chamfering tool and are never smooth. FYI I had to do a lot of work to my Colt 1911 to make it feed and reject shells properly also but when I was done I could shoot low power semi-wadcutters with no ftl's or fte's.

    Thanks for the video. I will perform these very small tweaks and hope it resolves the jamming issue.
    People talk smack about everything, so let them talk all the smack they want about Hi-Point Pistols.
    Mine is very accurate and if these simple mods help, then it will also become more dependable.
    I will still carry my S&W .40, but the HP .45 is fun as hell to shoot.

      To much spring tension in the magazine spring. Best solution, Load 7. Buy extra mags. they don't all do that. A lot of times the springs will relax a little with use too, it might get over that problem in the future. I had the same problem with a HIGH PRICED .380 that eventually went away with use. It was a Colt Mustang Pocketlite. You'll find out a good mag loader is worth it's weight in gold too if you shoot it very much.

My only issue I have had with it is the Mag doesnt seat very well I keep my pinky underneath just to be safe

      i saw where the ammo made alot of difference try remington as when i watched that ammo had the best there was 0 jams while three other brands all had issues. i don't have a answer as to why the different brands matter but they seem to matter. also be sure it has enough spring pressure and the mag itself spits them out smooth and good, but like when does the jam occur at the beginning of the mag or near the end or does it make any difference?

      i don't know if this helps but i read in the owners manual that for trigger reset problems u should put the whole pistol in a pre heated oven at 425 with one round in the chamber for 30 mins & if u don't have 30mins u can use a mircowave on high for 6 mins I found this also works on kel tec firearms to

    Here is how I see this feeding problem. It is the manufacturers problem and the manufacturer should step up and fix the problem. Then recall all magazines and send out replacements. I have a C9 in .45 ACP I have never fired in over a year because I loaded a magazine and cycled the gun and it jammed repeatedly. That makes the gun unreliable in my eyes.I have tried all these supposed magazine mods and still have the problem. So I bought after market magazines and one of those was the same. I recently bought another and it seems to be working correctly, so now I will go shoot it some and see if the problem is fixed.

  • @johnnys2016

    took mine to the range ... and it started feeding, jam with like my 3rd or 4th shot.... but..... the more i fired it... the less it jammed.. i only ran 50 rounds thru it.. but i plan on putting another 150 thru in a few days... i guess i just needed to break it in.... other then that.. i love this firearm...
