This video features both ways of playing the lead guitar part to And Your Bird Can sing. In the studio, George and Paul harmonized on two guitars plugged into one amp. Many people, including Joe Walsh, mistakenly hear it as one guitar playing Double Stops (two notes at once)

My son insisted on learning this song by playing both leads. He always tried to challenge himself musically, God bless his soul.
It's def not easy! Yea, props for taking the hard way.
May he find rest in the Lord
ポールがどれだけ凄いベーシストかよく分かる曲だよね。旋律の上を自由気ままに飛び回るポールのベースラインは本当にカッコイイね
I think the second version of one guitar playing proves that two guitars WERE playing in harmony because the second version is not as smooth and a bit more choppy. Thanks for the video Ably.
For me, the original record sounds more like the one made with one guitar
@@Amquacktador Listen again to the SMOOTHNESS of the two guitar version. As one that actually PLAYS the one Guitar version, you'll never get it as smooth as the 2 guitar version! Best I've heard is Tom Work, (1964 The Tribute) and Gavin Pring, (The Fab Four). But don't take my word for it, learn it yourself. There are better actual tutorial LESSONS on the "Tube"!! Cheers
@@georgescarlett2320 You can hear in the original recording how the bends clearly sound like two different guitars playing, in covers with one guitar playing the lead you can hear clear as crystal that it doesn't sound the same as the recording. George was a very economic player he would never write such a pain in the ass riff like that.
SiSenor has this ever been in question? I thought it was well established that McCartney and Harrison played this?
@@Amquacktador wasnt a only guitar part, it was paul and george playing. it sounds like one guitar because of the quality of the recording, it was probably the both playing at the same time and to the same mic or channel and it blend together.
in this case, the cover, it probably was recorded digital and in separate channels, so thats where the difference comes
I just cannot get over the brilliance of John Lennon .. he is just .. there are no words ...
George Harrison is to be credited for the guitar solos in this song.
I think John Lennon hated every Beatles song at one point or another 🤣
One the greatest artists ever.
@@EnglishRain Incorrect. Credit for the harmonized guitars belongs to Paul McCartney. Paul and George performed it on the recording, and it was Paul on the under appreciated bass line as well. John wrote the lyrics and of course it’s John on the lead vocal.
I could never understand why John was dismissive of this song. It essentially created The Eagles. With two leads guitars, of course.
John talked a lot of crap in the post-Beatles period. Didn't like anyone or anything. A lot of it was pharmaceutical-related, no doubt!
Pawelpap9. I’m not sure I understand the link between the Beatles and the creation of the Eagles? The two guitar thing with the Eagles wasn’t until Don Felder and later, Joe Walsh. Can you explain what you mean? Thanks!!
@@fanorydberg2424 He liked CCR
And Allman Bro’s. and Lynnrd Skynnrd.....
@@bobchristopher6928 Well Ringo and Joe Walsh are married to sisters, so that must be the reason.
Whoever did this is a genius
Yes, we all know John Lennon is a genius.
@@commenterjosh2428 yes, but the lead guitars in this song are played by Paul and George.
@@dsmpaul good
@@dsmpaul Played by, yes, but composed by John Lennon.
George wrote the riff himself or maybe together with Paul. For the vast majority of Beatles songs the instrumentalist created his own parts for songs. Paul wrote basslines for all the songs except a small handful where someone else played bass, John made his own rhythm parts, George wrote the lead parts (except a few) and Ringo made his own drum parts and said “I just tried to be as creative as I could”
I’m inlove with that bass
you're pretty talented, especialy when you play both solos on one guitar, great!!!!!!!!!!!
"pretty"? Very talented!
I'm wondering how in the world the Beatles did conceive this, it is truly genius!
As I said before, excellent! Sounds perfect to me. I remember trying to learn this song back in the late 60's by listening to the record. Slowing it down and basically wearing it out. Players have such rich resources today for learning.
True and with almost literal - unlimited resources, look how small the output of great material is - imho.
That one dislike must've been Keith Richards.
(or just a Jealous guy)
What do you mean Keith is a great musician too!
Why would keith Richards dislike thos you all right mate?
Keith respects John Lennon, even played "Yer Blues" with him in '68 Rock and Roll Circus
Funny comment.))
@@fredmogers5738 the main riff of the song is played on two different guitars. When Keith first learned the song, he wasn’t aware and tried to figure it out as one guitar part. you could say he wasn’t thrilled when he found out it was two guitars.
Lead Guitar, Vocal Back : George Harrison & Paul McCartney
Rhytim Guitar, Vocal : John Lennon
Guitar Bass : Paul McCartney
Drum : Ringo Starr
Who did the hand claps?
@@ktcarl 👏👏👏
Always loved this tune...brilliant way to show the 2 guitar parts down to the hollow body Gretch guitar...what a sound!
Please do She Said She Said!
John loved all his music no matter what he said. It is a beautiful song. Love those guitars! Plus we make the decision whether the song is great or not. They make the songs for us to love or not.
Definitely one of the most enjoyable solos by George Harrison
Even the tone is spot on!
The Beatles
"And Your Bird Can Sing"
You tell me that you've got everything you want
And your bird can sing
But you don't get me, you don't get me
You say you've seen Seven Wonders and your bird is green
But you can't see me, you can't see me
When your prized possessions start to weigh you down
Look in my direction, I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round
When your bird is broken will it bring you down
You may be awoken, I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round
You tell me that you've heard every sound there is
And your bird can swing
But you can't hear me, you can't hear me
2nd version is very impressive, but first version is more accurate (2nd is too staccato).
Fantastic job!
Absolutely Perfect, I don’t say that lightly! I never say perfect! Great job
I can't get enough of this song, love it! great job Ably House
Damn, I could seriously just watch your videos all day.
Good job. Beatles touched by the gods. Nothing close to them.
That is incredible guys! fantastic spot on rendition.
The both parts on lead is especially mesmerizing...you are all, all, ALL over that fret board, man!!!
The bass work is entirely McCartney-esque. Set aside from the original, this is my absolute favorite version.
Thanks! :^)
One of my favs...sic lead guitar
The bass line to this one feels a bit similar to “Taxman” honestly.
I actually really like that.
Great work. I remember John and George...
Can’t decide between the two! The first is more harmonically rich with that unique jangly chime that for some reason only seems to reside in the folk rock around 1966. The second is a little more raw and rough-edged, and in its staccato choppiness not blended over by the other guitar, brings one’s attention to the absolute precision on display here. 👌🏼
Thank you Ably House.
I love the instruments only, not distracted by the vocals... some lyrics were uninspiring (earlier stuff) but the instruments were amazing. All the layering to get that sound. Also helps appreciate the talent much more... and now i like this song more because of your work.
Lyrics are irrelevant when the harmonies and vocals are so supremely well delivered. This isn't an early track btw. Good lyrics
Such great attention to detail, even down to the left handed bassist!
do remake of rain
i lovvvvvv e the riffs and chords so very very much ok
Brilliant! Utterly brilliant! I think the original was done by Macca and Harrison. Man that was good to watch
Great work on this insight into what went into this song. Not only that but this representation lets the public know just how good the Beatles were. That Revolver album could of easily have been a double album along with Rubber Soul, Wow two classic albums one after another. Who has ever done that and to think St Pepper had not even been released yet. If you break down all other Artists work over the period that they existed and take a look at the reproduction of the material, the Beatles work is the most consistent. That's why they are the most successful band of all time. Two of the members have sadly passed away and we find ourselves here in 2020 with people, only now, starting to realise just how good these guys really were. It seems like the Beatles are just getting started again. The music still holds up today, music that they themselves wrote and performed unlike today where the industry has become a puppet playground.I would not swap my birth certificate for anything.
Theatre Mad - I loved The Beatles from the first time I heard them, always thought they were the best. But, I didn’t realize how on another level they were until January of 2010
this was AMAZINGGG
wasn't familiar with the Beatles middle era stuff till my wife turned me on to Yesterday and Today. Love this song, great rendition.
Man seeing you do the dual guitar parts makes me wanna hear you play hotel California which would be great!
This song is very catchy with a metaphorical lyrics. The riff is beautiful too
There are dozens of videos on youtube demonstrating these guitar parts and they all, the ones that I've seen anyway, make subtle (and some not so subtle) mistakes. But not this one! You got it right. Congratulations Sir! ;-)
Just great.... I can only shake my head in envy.. Bravo!
Man...you guys are very, very good musicians. I'm just amazed on how complex that guitar solo really is...and how difficult it must have been to play it with such precision.
That lead guitar is COOL!
BEAUTIFUL!!! Outstanding performance-a joy to listen to. I don't understand why people commented that the second version was choppier, etc. You pulled off something extraordinary: two guitar pieces in one. Amazing.
Folks, the Country Gent is there to simulate JOHN.
He played an orange DC 6120 in those days.
The Thin Lizzy Double Lead is Paul and George.
I played a show today and was told John was playing a 12 string for that part… I said shhoooore. But, I actually disagree. It’s jangly but I think it’s the DC 6120 as you said
Goosebumps. Jealous. Awesome.
I love two guitars.
How do I say in English, unbelievable, just unbelievably...WTF.....Great job Gents.........unbelievable.......
This is really good! One of my favorites Thank you for posting :)
I've heard guitar players to both lines with one guitar ... quite a feat at the original speed. Carefully listening to the isolated guitar tracks at 50% speed, I hear two guitar tracks doing slightly different things with slightly different timing, indicating there really was at least two guitar parts on two tracks and possible doubling on both. I heard that George did this song on a twelve string guitar ... which sounds believable because that guitar assemblage sound HUGE! Thanks for sharing your work ... you nailed it.
Geoff Emerick and Paul have said its Paul and George plugged into the same amp playing in harmony.
What a great channel!
Excellent!☺Thank you from Spain.
Awesome as always!
How authentic can you get? You even played the bass ... left handed? I looked to see if it was just reverse video, but the 'Rickenbacher' (again - authentic!) was not written backwards. Amazing! Great vid of one of me ('me' is Liverpoodlian for 'my') Beatles 'Choons'.
I thought this _too,_ but then saw in the description that someone else played the bass, lol. I’ve often considered buying a left-handed guitar and trying to learn guitar left-handed (I play right-handed), which would probably be a great “brain exercise!”
@@ahcapella I actually bought two left-handed guitars and was serious about switching over, as my right hand seem more dexterous on the fretboard. What I did not realize is that the left hand does not have the same rhythm power or timing. I can still play basic chords lefty, but that's about it.
The joke is, if you think Paul was good left-handed, you should hear him play right! He just played that way so he did not bump George during the harmonies!
George Genius!!!
Excelente.... Me encantó.... Felicidades.... Muy bonito..... Adoro a estos genios..... Nunca pero nunca terminen los covers de los Beatles.
Bass is spot on 👌
Superb
Ably House - Outstanding work as always.
Did John play his own Gretsch which he owned for a brief time, apparently, or borrow George's? Did Lennon in fact play guitar on this?
I always thought it was George and John playing the double leads!
I remember hearing John wasn’t a big fan of the double guitar idea, for whatever reason. We all love it. I havent read that in a while, but I think if John played it he’d speak higher of it. Also, the rhythm guitar is very John. Like Paperback writer
Thank you so much for this. I've just started learning this song and this is a great help for me! Wonderful quality of sound and the visuals are really helpful.
So the comments are just going to ignore how perfect this man played the bass in this video? Holy fuck.
Buen cover amigo! 1:30 es una parte con harto feeling, buena rítmica de John.
Yea
Truly astonishing!
I appreciate that this classic and brilliant dual-guitar riff man be played in many ways, but what I see here seems to be the most difficult one. I play this in my band with another guitarist (I've also worked it out to play it on one guitar) and I can tell you, we do it just as well but with much less effort and no major jumping around as here.
Neil does a great job on the bass lines . .what kind of pick is he using?
Thank you! Most likely a Green Tortex Dunlop pick
This is brilliant.
Amazing job, as usual! 👍👍
Most accurate cover out there...
Played to perfection.
Yes!!!! Great!!!! Super Cool!!! You are a great guitarist!!!! Congratulations!!!!
One of my favorites!
Wow! Very nice
I say that this is awesome!!!
Very talented..love it.
superb indeed.
George had the "Bigsby" tail piece on his Epiphone!!!... George and Paul played the lead here.
Can you put a subtitle on your videos so people can sing along while watching it?
cool! you could try adding more saturation or something to the bass so it cuts through small speakers, I’m listening on my Iphone and it get lost
Superb.
the rhythm guitar on this song is the last time john lennon ever recorded with the rickenbacker guitar (it's last ever appearance on record. the lead is george and paul as a duet george with his pale blue strat and paul with his fender esquire and yes both run through one amp could have been a vox but the band also always had one fender amp in the studio (a pale cream color) it could have been that too.
and did you paint the rickenbacker bass yourself?
Can you cite your source(s) regarding which guitars the lads were playing? Most people, myself included, seem to assume at least Paul and George played their Casinos, if for no other reason than to get identical tones.
I've always heard it was on both their casinos - their tone is pretty identical, like it really does sound like one guitar.
I had the Rickenback bass redone by "Famous Guitar Replicas"
This comment is just to say how much I appreciate the gearheads on this channel.
I don’t wish to be an instigator but I’m almost positive that the sound is pure Rick!
I’m completely serious though because it was this guitar tone, the phrasing, raw in adulterated guitar sound that drove me to pick up the guitar in the first place. I was spoiled though - I had a Gibson SG 500 special which I had Barry Ewert customize and a Marshall JTM 45 head through the JCM 4x12 cabinet.
It’s sad because once I actually started learning - I had to sell it for space and needed the money. If someone ever comes across someone wanting to donate a rig like that; I will do what I can for you - who knows, perhaps I have what will complete you too! Something is (inspiring? Guiding?) this decision to post this selfish request...
Mind you I’m out of ideas for how I can earn an axe again - too many life commitments that my leisure must take the slow bus lol.
I’m not complaining - I’m had a vision and am running with it!
Anyone else have friends that say "the Beatles music is so simple"? I just don't understand that logic. Show them this.
The people that I know who say that can't even play a single instrument sooooo
Show them “Strawberry Fields Forever” or “Lady Madonna” lol. Even the poppier songs (sometimes especially the pop songs!) are extremely layered and nuanced with unusual or clever/difficult things. The Beatles are unmatched in full-band creativity.
That. Was. FAB!!
awesome, Sweet
Nice job here wow!!!
Awesome rendition. Well done
The Beatles where really unbelievable!
Bass is very sexy to listen ♥️
Nice work lads.
Very cool!
If the Beatles had played this live, who would have played bass whilst Paul & George were duetting?
I think if they were to arrange this for a performance either George would learn to play both parts or John would learn the harmony. I don’t think swapping instruments on stage is something they would have done. Tough to say though since by then they were only playing 20-30 minute sets
amazing, really well done!
Incredible!!!
that rickinbaker is right on sounds good just like geroge and john
Sensational stuff lads!
Восхищаюсь Вашим мастерством!
Thats awesome bro...very cool...!!
Everything is spot on!! Are you using Vox amps to achieve the tone?? Thanks :D
