Much of the Islamic advances they are given credit for were built on the back of this infrastructure and contrary to the idea that Islam brought Greek and Roman knowledge back to the West, it had actually been safeguarded all along by the Byzantines. @@leavesinautumn5959 Your position hasn't been lacking in academic study in recent times. In fact, those contributions have been overstated far too often. New research shows that pre-Islamic Spain was far from the Dark Ages and the Berbers were very impressed with what they found in Spain in terms of civilization. Much of the Islamic advances they are given credit for were built on the back of this infrastructure and contrary to the idea that Islam brought Greek and Roman knowledge back to the West, it had actually been safeguarded all along by the Byzantines. They merely stole it when they attacked the Byzantine empire and added some improvements to it.
@@ServingChrist "stole" is hardly the word I'd use. Why must we pretend that it's a choice between 2 absolutes? The history of human societies, several thousand years long says otherwise.
The contributions of Islamic civilization in Spain are not generally "overstated" although it might sometimes be convenient to think so for a number reasons. That however is not to say that the preexisting Spainish civilization didn't make any contributions to Islamic civilization in turn.
That's just how any civilization works, we build on each others knowledge and achievements. No single civilization can claim to have risen without building on knowledge from other civilizations. "Greek and Roman" knowledge wasn't strictly speaking knowledge exclusive to either, it was knowledge that they gathered and not exclusively from either "Greek or Roman sources" .. Naturally, the same applies in equal measure to the Islamic civilizations.
P C Hardly. The Brits were merely the first to reach thar stage, and on the grand chessboard of history, being the first to an advancement renders great advantages. Without the Brits, someone else would have been the first. These sort of advancements were going to happen, and no one person or culturr or civilization is necessary for such progress. All culture determines is who in particular, the British, the Chinese, the Indians etc., will be the first to make the advancement.
P C Ever heard of independent origination? How Leibniz and Newton both independently developed calculus? Your preaching the great man theory of history, which is nonsense. Look deep into any great figure or civilization and you will find plenty of others who were right behind them in developing such advances but simply lost the race of being the first and thus lost their spot of fame in history.

Genetically, 95% of the Moors that inhabited Spain were ancestors of modern day Moroccans. Very few of them were Algerian (those few are mainly in Tlemcen or Oran which were historically attached to Morocco) or Arabs from the middle east. This historical inaccuracy is annoying because most people view the moorish presence as an arab presence or a north african presence as a whole (or even a subsaharan presence). No no no, it was a Moroccan presence, period (just look at the architecture inside the Alhambra and you'll see how it's similar to the architecture in Fès Morocco). This Algerian guy should stop doing cultural appropriation and the woman should stop calling moroccan moors "arabs", the only thing they had in common was the arabic language mainly. That's like saying it was the latins that built the Eiffel tower, but which latins are we talking about? The French, the Spanish, The Portuguese or the Italians? In that case it was the French people. Please guys, read about these things and you'll realize each time you go the Andalusia, that all the moorish monuments were moroccan 100%. History is history!
They were Moroccans, algeria never existed before the french invented them
Proof: I made it up
Most were actually European not Moroccan

This is what I don’t get: they are Europeans on every continent in the world. So why are they always comparing others in Europe?
Most of the people were Berbers, Arab conquerors were a minority.
woooooooooooooow you're very smart your mom must be so proud! Of course they were berbers but they mostly spoke Arabic there dingus
they self identify as Arabs that was their social identity since they spoke Arabic so much

@@hihi-qd8uo exactly.
The Arabs when they were in Spain (and other regions) made it possible for people of different groups, religions, ethnicity and identity to live side by side with one another and floriush. You have to keep in mind that before the Arabs came, there were different scattered vandal tribes clashing with each other after they had kicked the Romans from the iberian peninsula. The Arabs made Spain for centuries a beacon of Europe with all it had to offer. Its strange that Spanish people don't embrace that part of the countries history. The roman empire influenced my ancestors in the past and I never denied it, I actually have a lot of respect for the roman empire.
Unfortunately, as much as Europe tries to brand itself as secular and that it got rid of racism, it doesn't seem to be the case at all.
So world should stop discussing Hagia Sophia Mosque status
True
No because it was a church first just like the Córdoba Mosque was a church first.
@@adrianalainez8499That's a double lie, Aya sofia mosque was first a pagan temple, then a church, then a mosque, then a museum. The mosque of Cordoba was always a mosque even though some orientalist said in the past that is was built on top (even if this was true the structure is not the same), but it was proven false again and again.
