    I think you will like this little trick. I know, I know, this isn't completely unknown. However, the title is purposely hyperbole because there are enough people that don't know about this that I think it's important to get the word out. Thanks for watching and please leave me a comment in the section below!

      That’s a new one on me. I get leg cramps sleeping in a bed. If I’m on the ground (or the floor) there’s no problem. But anything softer than shag carpet, and it is a challenge to stay asleep.
      I’m gonna have to try this.
      Thanks 😎

      Thanks for the information that's pretty interesting I don't have that problem but if you would do me a favor and not use those 50 Cent words that makes me have to look them up and see what they mean I certainly would appreciate you being down-to-earth and using simple words for simple people. Thanks have a great day and stay safe and keep your powder dry!

      Mate, I have dreadful restless legs syndrome.... 30 years of it, now on a bad drug that does me good yet promotes daytime fatigue... and I get cramps. I am going to wear 2 bars of soap - each one between 2 layers of socks - if it helps me at all and I can slowly slowly ween off "sifrol" I will be forever grateful. Update: did not help. Tried a few nights. Oh well.

    Thanks James, I had forgotten about this. I’m American Indian (Cherokee/Osage), my Grandmother was a Healer (as was her Mother and her Mother before back to 1800 that is documented. She always made her own soap and added herbs and “Medicinals” to it. I remember that she added lavender and comfrey leaves and ground roots to the soaps to put by your feet. She put them in old worn out socks or small light weight bags she made out of old flour sacks. Hope this info helps some one. I’m 70 years old now and wish to continue to be helpful for as long as I can be. Respectfully, B StrongBear

    I have been using this trick since watching this video. It definitely works for me. The first night I noticed an immediate reduction in the intensity of my restless legs. This trick did not get rid of my problem immediately but every night is much better. I now sleep most nights right through without the restless legs waking me up. I lightly wrapped a bar of Dove Soap in a thin cotton cloth, held closed by some tape, and it stays between my sheets at my feet. A combination of this soap trick, plus magnesium tablets, plus calf stretching (like a jogger does) helps me sleep real well at night. Thanks James.

    James, if your body is sufficiently deficient in magnesium that you’re having this problem, wouldn’t it make sense to address the actual nutritional deficiency? After all, magnesium is used for literally hundreds of processes in the body, so by the time leg cramps are a problem at night, chances are you’re really in truly low and it might be affecting other bodily processes. Just saying.
    Thanks for your video!
    Update: there seems to be a couple of people that are confused about what I’m suggesting. I am suggesting that regular painful cramping like this is not a normal part of being healthy, that symptoms usually have causes that may indicate a larger problem that could be otherwise affecting a person’s body, that people who are suffering like this could consult with their own medical professionals suss our the cause and address it before the inconvenient issue becomes a major problem.
    Because remedies that address the symptoms, like James’ suggestion, or pickle juice, (or any number of other home remedies), really are great to get you through the moment, but they don’t address the causative issue, which left unchecked could cause major problems later.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  3 роки тому +15

      I don't actually suffer from magnesium deficiency. However, the problem can also be caused by a potassium deficiency or a lack of hydration. This is something that a person might use in a survival situation or after a long trek and they're experiencing these issues. However, you would definitely not want to do this and bear territory, you would need to observe all bear protocols.

    Someone left a comment to my comment about leg cramping caused by insufficient magnesium in diet. Yes. If you read labels on canned/packaged foods you’ll see not much magnesium. Fresh green vegetables have magnesium, but I’m not so good at eating enough. Magnesium is the “pump” to get calcium into muscles. Stopped having leg cramps after taking magnesium supplements on a regular basis. However this soap trick is good “first aid” in a pinch.

    I've never tried it for RLS, but I've used it for cramps OFTEN! it works within 15 minutes.
    I've used several types of bar soap; they all work the same.
    What I do for the leg cramps is rub the soap on my legs. I actually get it a little bit wet to get it to stick.
    My Dr's have called me crazy for using soap like that. UNTIL they shared with others who used it and said it worked!
    Thanks for explaining how it works. I tried figuring that out years ago and never could. I just decided it worked, and that's all that matters.
    I had tried pickles and mustard and stuff like that first. None of those worked. I'm totally going to try it for RLS as it keeps me awake some nights. Which of you have it you know it sucks!

    I admitted myself into a hospital because depression. The first two nights I suffered restless leg and could not sleep. It was around 1 o’clock in the morning I walked up to the nurses station and a male nurse was working that night. I told him I could not sleep. He walked in the back room and came out with a little bar of soap, and told me to put it next to my feet under the sheets. I did and it actually worked!
    Someone told me it’s the potassium in the soap. But it does work!

I have several packs of mustard in there always. I have been awakened in the night with leg cramps so bad I couldn't get out of my house if it were on fire. Thank you for sharing this valuable and vital information ! I’m a female but I take a males dose 400 mg of magnesium daily and I still get leg cramps and I still have a hard time sleeping so I take 2mg of Ativan ( lorazepam ) every evening at 8:30 pm and I fall asleep by midnight ! Maybe this soap idea is somehow helping the magnesium metal electrolytes to be released in a form that many doctors don’t know about ! I certainly never heard this from any doctor ! If it works then I will not have to take Ativan any more because even with the Ativan by 4:30a.m. I’m straight awake then exhausted all day ! Once again thanks ! I really appreciate this info and if it works I’ll tell my doctor about it and let you know too ! Have a great Christmas 🎄 and may the New Year of 2022 be super great for you ! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊

    Wow thank you! Is. It the lye in the soap? I found something about soap for RL There are various hypotheses with regard to the role of soap in relieving cramps. Loss of electrolytes in the body is said to be a contributory factor for development of cramps. Soap contains sodium, which may supply certain electrolytes to the body, thereby relieving cramps. In the next comment is the link.

    The bottoms of the feet are an efficacious method of both delivering medication and detoxing the body. Soaking feet is a good detox. Don't use epsom salts unless you want more magnesium. And, if you do use epsom salts, add a calcium supplement, as magnesium pulls calcium.
    To use the soap bar without the bag, just put it in an all cotton white sock and wear socks to bed.

      Definitely important info on the detoxing. Ionic foot baths can give amazing results. One thing I wanted to mention is that many people have too much calcium or take the wrong forms. It's best to not supplement if you can get it through food or food-sourced supplements. More problems come from lack of magnesium, not calcium.

      I fully agree with you and with the author of the video about the effectiviness of this trick: my 79 years old wife and her twin sister have been using it ite past 9 years for their night cramps with near 100% of success. Almost every time that they forget the trick -mainly during travels- they suffer again the pain of the cramps.
      But I disagree about the reason. The soap used for cleaning, never have Magnesium in quantitative amounts. I kow about it because I´m chemist.

    • @juanpablorenedo5194
      @juanpablorenedo5194 2 роки тому

      As far as I Know, there is not any rational explanation about its effectivity, but it doesn´t mean that it acts exclusivelly as a placebo. My wife is a retired nurse and she used to recomend this trick to several customers whith witch she had enough confidence.
      The main ingredients used to produce a soap are water, fatty acids and caustic soda. So the main metal ion are Sodium or Potasium (never Magnesium, unless the "soap" has been designed as an ingredient of industrial greases)
      I learned about it in a a french book titled "The secrets of the best healers" that I readed 20-30 years ago.

I still have issues but much less severe.....and the 'trigger finger' is GONE, thank god. I was at the point of not being able to use my left hand with that, but the p-5-p B6 worked!!!

    Great idea and I plan to do this. I would like to add that since magnesium is essential but hard to absorb in quantities that we need, a method called Magnesium "oil" is a huge help for cramps and better sleep.
    You would get Magnesium flakes (ancient mineral ) and dissolve as much as possible into warm water that you stir on low flame.
    Only warm is needed.
    This feels oily when put on the skin, but it's not. Rinses off with water.
    Apply on your whole body if you can, and leave on 20-30 minutes. You will absorb through the skin.

    You had me at "muscle cramps at night". Particularly leg or calve cramps. The worst are ham string cramps. I always keep a bottle of water filled with half apple cider vinegar and half water to kill muscle cramps. Just three of four good sized swigs does the trick. I also take 500 milligrams of magnesium per day to prevent the cramps. Now, I'll try this too. I have a bunch of small burlap bags with drawstrings that I ordered off of eBay that'll work perfectly.

    Being low in potassium will cause leg cramps. And if you take a pill, of potassium, make sure to take a magnesium pill with it as our bodies don't break down the potassium without the help of magnesium. Love your videos. Great info. God bless

    A bar of soap is very basic in ph factor. Meaning it can help cancel out acid. Lactic acid among other acids build up in the body, causing these issues(cramps ect). So it makes perfect sense that it could change the ph balance in the body to help stop cramps and other ph balance problems. Keeping in mind that the less processed the soap is the better at this function it would be. For example french milled soap or super fatted soap would be more acidic and therefore not work as well as let's say a homemade handmade lye soap. Don't have the soap to use, but need it for the leg cramps use wood ashes from your fire(cooled off of course and placed in a coffee filter, cloth bag, ect to keep your bedding clean). Fun fact, homemade soap can been made from water poured through wood ashes as the wood ashes contain lye hence the name lye soap.

    Would taking magnesium supplement before bed work as well? Or are there additional factors to this soap thing?

    • @ephesians6125
      @ephesians6125 3 роки тому +2

      I supplement with magnesium every day and it definitely helps with leg cramps, but I also have to drink plenty of water over the night. I also supplement with potassium and put a small amount of pink salt (for the minerals) in my water bottles beside my bed for staying hydrated overnight. If I don't do these things, I always get cramps. I am additionally going to try this soap thing anyway... maybe I won't have to wake up so many times a night. I have also noticed that I do better at night if I eat a whole avocado every day, but I don't always have them in the house.

    I don't really buy but I never tried it either. Usually it's due to a B-1 and potassium deficiency. A B-1 and a potassium glutamate pill before bedtime and I sleep like a rock after a hard day on my feet.

    We've been using soap for restless leg for 45 yrs. As long as its between foot and knee it works. We usually use ivory, cause my great grandma said they did that when ivory first came out. Glycerin soaps do not seem to help.
