Really like your videos. How would you approach getting a young dog to bark at the tree. Have a cur that trees but only barks some when you pump her excitement up at the tree. Wish I didn’t so attached to dogs even if they don’t hunt so good. As you get old like me it gets worse, lol.
I’m from a small town in Oklahoma where Beagles are the most popular…think I’m the only one this way that even knows what a cur is…I’ve never had my own but I need one or two
I like the part about getting one that you think is pretty and has the right disposition and you'll be more patient with and give it time to develop. Those are true words, all of my favorite dogs were slow starters at least at the treeing part.
Yes sir u are correct! I assumed that with my dog jax at that age that I didn't need one but he would take off and stay forever by himself at that age and was treeing squirrel, opossums, and raccoon by himself at 5 months! At 8 months he was doing better then alot of hounds are at around 2 years!
Id like to find one more like the originals. Seems people want crazy competition dogs nowadays and I just want one to casually enjoy hunting with, regardless of what I'm hunting. Was drawn to them because they seem to have better recall and check in more than other hounds - Spent half of my childhood chasing our walkers and beagles halfway across the state and decided I'd prefer not to do that now that I have a choice.
You did just fine. About fell off my chair when I saw the Ohio flag. Yes, we are fellow Ohioans. We live south of Athens. Your dogs are beautiful. Love the brindle coloring. Now I see how some people might confuse them with a Pit. We (you & I) wouldn't confuse them but I can see how others could because of coloring. Sure hope I can find someone that wouldn't mind breeding our Mountain Cur/GSD with another Cur. Not sure if I'll be able to find that person because most want their dogs to be pure bred when using them to hunt. Def want a pup of his. It'll work out if it's supposed to. Even though our dog is mixed, I'm still a partial Cur dog Mom! I need to upload some pics. I'm rarely on IG. I think I uploaded pics of his parents but I'm not sure if I uploaded one of him. If so, it would have been when he was a pup. You're probably gonna love his Dad. He's part brindle too. Take care...
Btw looks sure matter to me too! For instance I had a walker hound one time that was doing extremely well for his age but he had a curly tail and I absolutely hate that on a hound! Bothered me so bad that, that's why I ended up selling him! 🤣
I’ve been thinking of getting a squirrel dog. My wife surprised me yesterday with a young pup 1/2 lab and 1/2 coondog. Would i be able to train her for squirrel hunting
I would like to get a pup, can you point me to the right direction, I'm from PR and don't know how to get one or where to get it. I would like one that's loud cause I'm a DAV who's disability is that I got bilateral hearing loss.
@@stark_outdoors That's something I forgot to ask. Will look him up. Hope he's close. I know for sure our dog's Dad was from Kentucky. It was their grandparent's dog but that's all I know.
If you enjoyed this video please give it a like and subscribe. Thank you
As always thanks for sharing and giving advice on picking out a pup. Glad to see the little one tagging along.

I would love to get in touch with you and talk about blue tics
Sharp looking pup we hunt curs too. How’s your bred? We like the chipper bred dogs for us. Really gamey and easy to start.
This one is out of Rip and Kimber. Rip is out of hummer. My jax dog is out of thundersport. Most of mine go back to Thunder one way or another

Ugly and high strung is what I tend to stay away from lol
Very nice Mnt Cur

If it genetically has it in them, yes. All you can do is try
@@stark_outdoors Completely agree! If it's in the DNA, it'll show! Wonder how his dog is doing now. It's been a year.
Do you keep squirrel dogs inside or kennels?

Juan, did you find a pup. My husband is also a Veteran. Hope you found a pup.
@@thehermitslantern777 No I haven't. I want to build a kennel first. Hopefully soon.
Out of the mountain Feist and the cur which breed would u pick ?
Mountain cur
If you cross those cur dogs I want a pup!
If she starts treeing I’m going to
Can you name a breeder
Allen Franklin
