Love your videos on the 5-Ton. Just bought my M813, also a 1976, two weeks ago today. Beyond the initial test drive, haven't got her out on the road due to an air leak in the fuel system. Will be changing to a Wix spin on this week, however, so far I just enjoy wrenching on her.
Awesome truck, congratulations! I don't know alot about 800 series 5 tons, but I know on m35 series trucks the sprague t-case sucked. I upgraded mine to the air shift t-case and couldn't be happier.
I got mine cheap because I found a guy who was scrapping a truck. I have him $200 for everything I needed off of his truck. I don't think any of the 800 trucks came with the air shift T case. You will probably have to find one from a 900 series truck.
I have a 1973 M813A1 on 48/1400×20's.One of the best trucks, just outdated but not obsolete.Had to rebuild the NHC-250 on mine because of cracked sleeves, piston rod bearings, and valve seals.
When I first seen you says $5000 my mouth dropped, but if you redid the entire engine that’s not so bad. If I ever have to redo mine, I might consider trying to convert it to an 8.3L
That 5-ton is beautiful! I wanted an M813 for a first army truck but got a sweet deal on an M35A3 instead. Maybe someday I'll get a 5-ton of some flavor :) Though my wife would love to get an MTV.
I own an M813 that I bought almost 2 years ago. There aren't many recent videos of them on UA-cam or anywhere, so this'll be fun to watch. I had to replace the transfer case, which weighs 700lbs. That was interesting.
I drove that same model from 1976 - 1979 in Bamberg Germany, 1/54 INF , need to change the straight pipe back to the bent pipe, and learn to double clutch, You only get 6 miles to the gallon. Top speed about 60 MPH
Holy crab where did u get this beauty i was used to drive when i was servicing in S,korea exactly same truck!!! We used to call it K-711 holy crab,,, i wish i can drive this truck agian.....
@@DieselDom lmao i double dare you this truck is freaking hard to maintain being well,,, If u don’t mind can i ask how much did u pay for it? lovely truck ever!
The tires are an unholy mess. Looks like half of them are on the wrong side. Those types of tires are directional. The "point" of the tire needs to hit the ground first.
@@DieselDom I think they fibbed. 44 years in the army and we were very careful to keep tires oriented correctly. Even to the point of every second truck had the spare mounted for the left side of tbe trucks, that way, if time allowed, a driver could swap spares for a correctly oriented one. Lovely truck! 👍👍

It looks pretty clean, And now the journey begins, I have a 1985 M923A1 5 ton and it is a blast, Made a camper out of mine, Good luck with yours.
Yeah, one of the cleaner ones that I found. Lots of fun so far! Used it as an RV this past weekend.
I use to have a M923A1 myself,I miss it all the time,it would have looked great with my M813A1.
Awesome truck, I bought an M925 last year. It's a blast. Good luck!

Thanks! How much did that cost if you don’t mind me asking?
I did same thing with my M35A2 & M185A3.

You should post some videos up of your trucks so I can check them out. Also if you don’t mind me asking how much did the rebuild cost?
@@DieselDom For me to do it,it was about $5,000.My truck had 18,064 Miles when I first picked it up.

@@DieselDom I would not consider it,the 855 has more low end torque.The N/A NHC-250 is 250 HP/658 TQ as to where the 6CT is 240 HP/592 TQ.
Yeah, I’m not sure what I want to do yet. I also thought about turning it into a NTC350
Love the Truck!
Thank you! Sadly I sold it

$8500
9:40 - 9:53 Did you use the starter to drive the truck to the pump because the tank was empty?
Just to get it off the road. Then it started and costed most of the way till like 3 feet short of the pump
I LOVE............................
My 5 ton m817 has the same 51 on the front.
Mine has 69 now
Does it have super low MPG? When i was in army , i got 8-9 MPG
That’s about what I get too
@@DieselDom What am I doing!? My suburban is getting that mpg, time to trade in lol
@@josefrobbins8781 😂
Now you have to pull it
Soon
I have an ol M818
That’s the tow truck right?
@@DieselDom nope, the M819 is the wrecker, the M818 is just the plain tractor with the fifth wheel hitch
@@rossfischer3661 oh yeah, I remember now. My bad

@@rossfischer3661 what’s wrong with it?

I am getting them switched around because I want them pointing in the directions they are supposed to. But their reasoning was motor pool specs.
