If you don't mind me asking, are the ring gear diameters for both the 2.5 and 5 ton axles the same or are they different diameters? I'm a noob when it comes to these Rockwell axles.

My second truck was a 2wd 95 f150 with the 300 and a zf5, which I got after my c1500 blew up, and I beat the hell out of that thing. The only thing that I really broke on it was a rusty leaf spring mount after I jumped it through a ditch at 35 mph. and I still drove it around with the leaf resting on the bed for like 6 months before I fixed it. eventually the frame rusted through right where the steering box mounted. I still have that truck but it’s a parts truck for the 96 I have now.

Love your videos on the 5-Ton. Just bought my M813, also a 1976, two weeks ago today. Beyond the initial test drive, haven't got her out on the road due to an air leak in the fuel system. Will be changing to a Wix spin on this week, however, so far I just enjoy wrenching on her.

Chains are 2 brittle for that purpose use 5/8 inch solid cor cable good 60k # what i use for dragging 48 in across trees in my 4x6 1300d harvester posi n both ends of mine . Finaly some 1 changed worthless ndt off put real rubber on it !

Love these trucks but that one looked unsafe to be on the road. So you probably doing more good than bad. 1. it wasn't crunched immediately, instead you tested the durability of it keeping the good ones safe.

Great video! I’m not a mechanic, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I’ve got an M931A1 truck. I noticed a little “wetness” behind the front right wheel. It’s not even dripping. I’m guessing our axle seal is leaking into the hub. We checked the level in the axle and it just needed to be topped off. So, the leak doesn’t seem to be that bad. Obviously, it’s pretty easy to continue to check the level in the hub and top off accordingly. But what concerns should I have about oil getting into the hub and mixing with the grease? Should I not worry about this until the leak gets worse? Or will I even be able to tell since the oil enters the hub first. We are capable of doing this job, I would just like to put it off for as long as possible!

I'm suprised to see thats a closed knuckle axle and a dry hub assy. Long ago I ran a closed knuckle Dana 70 that's wet all the way through .

If you want to reduce the drone install a FLOPRO Twister just behind the down pipe.

That 5-ton is beautiful! I wanted an M813 for a first army truck but got a sweet deal on an M35A3 instead. Maybe someday I'll get a 5-ton of some flavor :) Though my wife would love to get an MTV.
