Ferlin was a genuine person........... A fantastic soul and I'm thankful to have gotten to know him a little in the last five years of his life. this is the song I grew up loving. It reached in and touched the soul. There'll never be another one like Ferlin Husky and I'll sure miis him.

I've heard Ferlin do several different version of this song, and this is my favorite. This recording of it is a master piece. His vocal performance here is amazing, very dynamic. We are lucky to have it. Thanks for posting.

Since you've gone, Ferlin, the world is short one fine entertainer . I am included in the millions of people who now look back on their youth and remember you and your music with yearnings to return to better days. The impossibility of doing this is a part of this life as we well know. However, we do have our memories to transport us back to those wonderful days and we can hear your voice and remember the fun and friends, special friends, first loves and home. Rest in devine peace, Sir.

I am glad that Ferlin finally got what he deserved by getting inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame while he could enjoy it. I watched Heart to Heart classics the last week and he was on there for only fifteen minutes and barely got started telling how he got started in the business he needs to be recognized more than what he has been in the last several years for his talent and contributions to country music.

This song by Ferlin is a classic. We love all of his music. We met him years ago at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville and he was very gracious to us. I like seeing Ferlin's alter ego, Simon Crum, with the goofy baseball cap on. Did Ferlin (as Simon) record some songs? It's hard to remember just who did what and when. Thanks for posting this. - Paula

Who says that 13 is an unlucky number? For Ferlin Husky, it wasn't. This was the thirteenth #1 Country and Western hit in the Rock Era. It also went to #4 on the Top 40 charts. At that point, only Elvis Presley and Tennessee Ernie Ford had crossover #1 hits to the Top 40.

This is the tone of the songs I grew up listening to. I guess you would call it classic country because it was not as hillbilly as some others. It was the predecessor to early rock n' roll.

This was big hit for Husky. Ironically, he grew up in a predominately Muslim community in southeast Missouri. His maternal grandfather was an imam in the community. Husky finished school with the thought of becoming an imam himself, but the chance to travel to France and study piano under Jan Paderewski presented itself, and he debuted as a soloist at the Musée de la Musique in 1949. His first recording was as a keyboard artist, with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Symphony.
