  • See how to connect a Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart non-isolated DC to DC charger to a Lynx Distributor. I show a diagram of how it will connect to the Ford Transit 2021 CCP 175A post with an external 80A breaker. I would rather have to replace the 80A than the 175A under the driver seat! I will cover the connecting of the Orion to the CCP post when the Orion is installed in the van.
**Note for the Multiplus-II case ground: ABYC recommends that the case ground is no smaller than 1x size down from main current carrying conductor. So if using 4/0 for main battery cable, per ABYC should have 2/0 for case ground (not 6 AWG as seen in the video).

Thx a lot for your efforts and your mastery of this subject. I personally believe that during the last few months things have been really simplified in the solar industry and rendered many devices obsolete. I have not used a charge controller or combiner box in a while and even some disconnects are no longer needed depending on what type "smart" or hybrid inverters one uses. I now only use 3 types of inverters. Solark 15K, Schneider XW Pro or better yet, the one and only EG4 18K-PV and its batteries. Yes, we're no longer in Kansas anymore. My other alternative when it comes to batteries is using a T-class fuse with Discover AES 42-48-6650 no more than 1-4 (one to 4 of them)

Please keep in mind the Orion is a DC to DC charger, not a solar controller.

Helpful video! I have an isolated version "Orion Tr" and a "Lynx Power In". My Question: As it pertains to my house battery bank...Is there any need to make a short 20cm long GND connection from the Lynx Pwr In terminal to van chassis or is it better to keep this GND point removed and rely on the Orion Neutral to carry the GND back to the starter battery neutral terminal where it shares a common chassis GND point inside engine bay? Cheers

Thanks for the compliment. Without a wiring diagram, I don't think I can help much with your question, sorry. I recommend checking out the Victron manual for the Orion isolated version, or if you purchased from a Victron dealer, they should have support as well. All the best, cheers.

Great videos! Would you mind posting a copy of your diagram separately? Thanks!

Thank you. I'm not sure I have a way to deliver an image to you. If you are watching on a computer, perhaps pause and grab a screenshot?

where do you get those square Ferrules from?

Purchase the proper sized ferrule for your wire, they are a cylinder shape until you use a proper crimp tool. The crimp gives it the square look.

What does isolated versus non isolated mean?

I will have a chassis ground in my camper van (as I believe any camper van setup should). Since I did this setup video on a table top demo, no common neg/ground, which is why I could not demonstrate this charging method.
