  • Replacing old front Bilstein Shocks with new 2.5 ICON Coilover shocks on 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4. *Disclaimer: This was done under time constraint under extreme heat conditions. To give an analogy, in the carpentry world this would be considered rough framing. Take what you find helpful and throw out the rest. Thanks for watching.

    I like not having the studs on the top hat for getting the coils in the truck but man getting the bolts threaded in was a pain in the ass installing these yesterday. Truck drives great. Can’t wait to do the rear now!

    I was looking at the bilsteens you took off how was the ride with those? Better than stock? I feel the stock shocks are junk

      The Bilstein's are just a step up from what is given stock. If you look at the rod it is bigger but I would say if you want to go offroading then I would highly suggest getting something other. The rods on the icon shocks I put is over twice the diameter as the Bilstein's. I made the mistake of the trying to test the limits of the Bilstein's and it nearly punctured a hole on one of the coolant hoses because the rod shot up through the center hole on the frame where the shock seats.

    Are you still happy with these? What the max height you can set them? I currently run 5100s on my ram and I feel they improved the handling on highway but the ride is rough around town and on broken pavement/ washboard roads whole truck rattles

      Yes sir, the coilovers are holding up fine. As far as washboard goes I don't think there are shocks out there that provide smooth ride for that but these coilovers work for everything else. I'm planning on removing the rear bilsteins on the truck because the shock on the left side is shot. I'll be replacing the rears with icons as well.

    Looks great man, I’m considering getting a set of these. How is the on road ride compared to the bilsteins?

      Night and day. I was avoiding pot holes before because it sounded like my truck would fall apart now I'm not worried at all. Just soaks it up.

    I dont see why rotor and caliper were removed. Didn't look like it was needed.

      i needed to remove it to have enough slack on the brake line as not to break it

    Do you have the links for these shocks? Im having a hard time trying to decide between the spacers and bilstein 5100s or even these shocks?

    Questions for you man, what's they height they come preset for the RAM, 2.5" and did you have to adjust them after the install ? it seems you bolted them like they came out of the box. Thanks a lot.

    • @gordanburin3416
      @gordanburin3416  5 років тому +1

      They come with a 2.5" lift from the package. So I had installed them as is and then I raised the driver side up to the max (up another half inch) because my truck had a lean. Nothing is straight on the truck anymore due to the accidents I've been in.

    Is there a reason you took the brakes off?

    • @gordanburin3416

      To save my brake line from possibly tearing from stain/pull
