These kinds of stories in game development are just interesting to me even if they are very minor. Version differences between regions have always interested me.
@@LargeToastie also Lao Gui in chinese has a different appearance based on the voice actor, i think it was a movie star or something.
@@SnowiestAngemanActually you were spot on. Lao Gui's lines actually do not correspond with what he says in the Japanese version's audio audio. But with the Chinese version audio the lines match.
Looks indeed like Yakuza 0's english translation was built on the chinese one and then it got localized into what we know.
That's a genuine "ohhhh" piece of trivia especially combined with the Lao Gui evidence others have mentioned

Since you seem to love these facts did you know that in the French version, since they obviously couldn't use "Bon Voyage" in the subtitles, they used "have fun" instead. Which makes Ichi not getting simple English when he's going to Hawaii... Which actually fits 😂

I really like the yakuza breakup scene because in 7 its more brighter because ichiban is fan boying right now, and in gaiden its darker because kiryu has been through a lotta shit to get here😂
here’s a fun fact:
in at least like a dragon gaiden, you can press L3 or equivalent to drop a weapon, doing the animation that happens at the end of a fight if your holding a weapon. That means they actually made something worse than throwing a weapon in combat.

Funny thing, but the French subtitles for Infinite Wealth (which, btw, are only there since Judgment), don't say "Bon Voyage", but "Have Fun" (in English), because it wouldn't make sense otherwise

Personally, I play the english dubs in games they are available. Not out of any moral reason, but because the english casts are really good and its a shame to let the dubs be "obscure" when its a choice explicitly made to appeal to a broader market that theyre clearly trying with. Maybe the yakuza 1 dub created a permanent stigma, but for me, the dubs are very good. And yes I have played more than just the games with dubs, I even play games with no english dub like Gaiden on launch and Isshin.

Something I do really like about Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth is that stats are definitely more tied to the job, rather than the character, meaning you can actually make Adachi useful.

You can also hold RB or R1 and the sprint will work only if you hold it too. So while holding RB or R1 and spamming sprint you can make dragon engine characters go ice skatin
I was more under the impression that the XIV in the Amon theme was because it's the 14th time we fight the Amon clan in the franchise (excluding rereleases) would make a lot more sense as we wouldn't have to make exceptions like ignoring the Kurohyou games seeing as he wasn't in those games as far as I know

Another reason they didnt use bon voyage in the english dub because they already use it on Y7 nancy the crawfish sub story when ichiban throw nancy into the river.
Nishitani III on dub is also really good. Tyler Yamabe, his dub actor, debuts in Gaiden which is really impressive

I found most Yakuza UA-camrs (the....4 other people besides you lol) kinda annoying but you really stuck to me.
You give info well and you're funny as shit, so if you make a vid about anything I'll watch it.
In Lost Judgment's parkour segments, you can slide along the wall with the same stick movement as 1:18 and it's just as funny as it sounds lol
imo the only real bummer with the English dub of 8 is the way the karaoke tracks are produced. Often they’re missing effects or entire harmonies, and the pitch correction is *really* noticeable. I’m sure the team just had much more experience producing dialogue than music though
(And sure, yeah, Kiryu should sound like 20 years older, but Yong does a solid job with the emotional scenes especially. He’s never half as distracting as Japanese Bryce speaking English)

I haven't heard the Chinese dub until now and wow it's actually real damn good. Especially with the English. So much better than the Japanese dub's English scenes.
You killed it with the entire video! Especially the dub facts. One other difference between the LAD IW scene for ya. They added extra efforts for Ichi in the Gaiden dub near the end probably to fix the timing

I got into Yakuza recently and I love the english dub. I find it entertaining how the way I view some of the characters change based on their voices. Especially the LAD party. Like Nanba sounds so nerdy in Japanese but in English he sounds lazy. Those are different ppl in my head

Hey bro i really enjoy your videos but I just wanna say that It would probably be best to branch out from yakuza If you are burning out on the game. personally I would love to see a video of yours on a game like shin megami tensei or xenoblade 3 since I see you use those games music all the time in your videos. I think your style of comedy and editing could bring a lot to series other than yakuza. ofc Idm if you keep making yakuza videos since I love those but it just sounded like you needed a break from the series at the end of the video. Even if using a Hawaiian phrase absolutely makes more sense every time I see the dub I feel like players were robbed of "The Bon Voyage guy" in english. It's just so out of place and so very entertaining for Ichi to spout it back every time, 2 men speaking Japanese exchanging a French phrase. At least for me.

Another mistake is in the french translation of LJ when you analyze the video of Mitsuru Kusumoto being bullied by Kawaii and the others well in that video he’s named "Mitsuru Kuroiwa" which is funny since he’s never mentioned in that game
Fun fact: In Yakuza 5 you play as Haruka for a bit and while you play as her you cannot purchase alcohol and it doesn’t even show up when browsing stores (obviously, I mean she’s 16). The interesting thing though is that you can still buy Legendary Drinker of Ryukyu sets…which help with hangovers.
Can’t remember if you need one for any substory or side story…but if you don’t then there is literally no reason Haruka should be purchasing those because she can’t get drunk. You’d think if you bought one the cashier would at least question it, but nope. They don’t say a thing.

the mistranslation on gaiden escape throw move is present on the portuguese translation of the game too. So it must be true for all languages (at least the west ones) because they all derive from the english version

My trick with Nanba's low attack was to just use the Gearworks brand that allows him to use his Magic stat for physical damage. Now I have a Nanba with 600+ Magic which is basically also his Attack.
I didn't remember the Japanese Engrish sounding like that, Tomi sounds distorted somehow and Eiji sounds like he's speaking whilst biting his tongue

here's another useless fact: in gaiden in the english dub, when Kiryu punches that guy that was gonna stab Watase in the dissolution cutscene, Kiryu still screams "ora" in japanese, even tho im pretty sure it was still yong yea voicing him, they sound very similar if you put them side by side.
actually i dont think it is yong yea, i can't tell. still, its weird that he talks in japanese in the english dub
Crane King's Might is basically just Recovery Stance from yakuza 3 (and 4, I think?) and it actually looks sick to do "the kick" and hold it down for a couple of seconds in Y3, makes you feel like you are in that one cutscene from Y0 where you learn Legend style.
This video is my first exposure to the English dub. I liked what i heard. I LOVED ichiban and really liked Adachi to point a couple out.
Also after 7 and infinite wealth i half expect reina to reappear at some. I highly doubt anyone who died in 0 or 1 will ever appear again but who knows. I also highly expect ryuji to pop up again.
