IDF starts Rafah ground attacks | Russia's nuclear weapons threat | SBS News

The Headlines on SBS World News | 7 May 2024:
▷ Israel's long-threatened ground offensive in Rafah has begun. The IDF confirmed it's taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah Crossing linking Gaza with Egypt.
▷ Russia said it’s preparing for drills simulating tactical nuclear weapons, in response to what it called provocative statements and threats by Western officials, over the war in Ukraine. NATO called it dangerous and irresponsible.
▷ The United States urged Australia to stay the course, after a Navy helicopter narrowly avoided being hit with flares from a Chinese jet. The mid-air incident over international waters off South Korea has sparked accusations from both sides.
