It really is. It's funny how everyone loved these movies when they released but since then it's been funny to mock them for being overrated, but honestly with how much movies and in particular Disney has gone downhill in the last 10+ years, I think we are all starting to appreciate that original POTC trilogy a lot more, ESPECIALLY when it comes to CGI and how much of a cinematic masterpiece those movies are
I get how someone would miss it though. It's one line between Davy Jones and Beckett's right hand, not even Beckett himself. (If I'm remembering it correctly.)
That's what Jack is looking at on the beach when Barbossa and him are talking about how they need to assemble the brethren court and Jack says, 'The world is still the same. There's just less in it.'
I find it astonishing how most of the negative critics and comments made about At World's End are always about it being to confusing (which is not, you only need to pay attention to what you are watching and connect the dots) and about it's length but when asked about the scenes they would cut is always an important scene to justify something in the story or they can't point out one in specific. If anything I think that should've also added some of the deleted scenes. I guess the short format content and the studios making stories that hold the viewers hands all the way through the movies, really affected our brains. People can no longer focus on story and constantly ask for shorter movies when the ones that make more impact and profund are the ones you spend the required amount of time with th characters and the world.
It's a phenomenal cap to the trilogy, it's honestly where the pirates franchise should've either ended or taken its chance to switch protagonists and show a new story
I’ll always defend that the first 3 are an incredibly solid trilogy of films. The second is still my personal favorite for its themes, Davy Jones, and how amazing the visuals hold up
24:15 The phrase "nine pieces of eight" makes perfect sense. A "piece of eight" was a colloquialism for a Spanish silver dollar. Back in those days money's worth was measured in the weight of it's precious metal content, and it was not illegal to cut coins, in fact it was a common way of creating change. What's the easiest way to cut a cirle? Cut it in half. Do it four times, and you get eight pieces. Thus a whole coin was worth eight pieces. So when they say "nine pieces of eight" it means "nine silver coins".
One major thing you got wrong, is that Will Turner is the main character. The writers have stated several times that it’s actually Elizabeth’s story, and it’s Elizabeth’s journey from the naive Governor’s daughter to Queen of the Pirates. Sure Will is perhaps the parallel protagonist, but it really isn’t HIS journey we follow as closely.
A piece of eight is just what the British called the Spanish dollar. The pirate lords were broke so instead of using coins they used tokens of whatever they had on them. There were nine of them. Nine pieces of eight. Just a funny label, but it makes sense.
The reason why Beckett didn’t fire the weapons because it would be out of his character. He relies on negotiation, bargains, and dialogue to be a powerful embracing. Beckett lost because he had nothing to work with! Davy Jones was gone. Jack was alive and Will was the Flying Dutchman’s leader. Beckett knew he lost and gave him.
Dead Men Tell No Tales has a whole Rise of Skywalker vibe into it. The story is all fanficcy, where we follow a young girl who is secretly related to a previous villain, and the son of the heroes of the previous franchise, and it figures the ghost of a previous villain who looks just like a low cost version of the villain of the previous movie (Salazar is both Davy Jones and Beckett because he is a cursed pirate but also a military guy), then leading to the return (somehow) of the main villain of the previous movie. Plus it has a « I am Rey Skywalker » moment with Carina saying « I’m Carina Barbossa now ».
I agree it is a very flawed movie with a lot of plot holes and some out of character moments, but I don't think it was near as bad as The Rise of Skywalker, and had stuff I enjoyed. I didn't mind the new characters, even though they are obviously not as good as the original ones, and it still felt fun.
Okay, so I'm awake now, so I'm going to rewatch this and address points I feel are wrong, because it was seriously pissing me off earlier this week. 1 - (Curse of the Black Pearl) Saying Barbossa is "not particularly evil"... when he's known to have been plundering, killing and looting for over a decade by the time we see him here, and he threatens Elizabeth *constantly*... okay. This one is nitpicky, but I'm not wrong here. 2 - (Dead Man's Chest) All of the Jack scenes before the island aren't that necessary... huh? I don't mean to be that guy, pal, but have you heard of show don't tell? Sure, he *could* have just told Will about the key, and we could have saved runtime for it, but we'd miss out on fun scenes and character interactions, as well as the mystery the beginning of the movie presents! We also wouldn't have established Bootstrap, the black spot on Jack, *or* why they were on the island besides "We're hiding to look for a key!". This point of yours is just straight dookie. 3 - (At World's End) Why do they want Jack back? This one is simple. Tia Dalma resurrected Barbossa, so he owes her a favour. She's calypso, and wants to be released. To be released, they need to get Jack's nine piece of eight, which he died wearing. The others want him back because he is their captain/friend/they feel guilty. Pretty sure they explain this in the movie, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I know Typewriter briefly mentions the lord stuff, but he fails to properly explain it, and I think all characters have good justifications for what they do. Barbossa and Sao Feng *don't* want Jack back, but Barbossa doesn't want to die, and Feng makes a deal with Will. 4 - (At World's End) Kraken is dead with no explanation. Yes, this is true in the final movie, and I agree it needed some explanation. However, there was a deleted scene where it's revealed that Beckett forced Jones to kill the kraken as a power move. This is my weakest point, as you have to be a mega fan to know this one. 5 - Putting At World's End at a lower rank than On Stranger Tides is criminal, but that's a personal opinion. Yes, I'm biased because I'm a mega nerd. No, I don't hate Typewriter. I just think he's wrong in a few areas. Mosto f the other stuff was pretty accurate.
The first 3 movies are all phenomenal. The first is the most well constructed for sure though. The second has the cannibal island that takes too long and feels disjointed from the rest of the plot and the third hits a lull getting Jack back. But ultimately theyre all super fun and contain my favorite set pieces in cinema. They just don't make set pieces on that level anymore.
As was I, lad. (My favourite quote from coincidentally another pirate iconic video game Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag) I had the most fun with the third movie and loved its plot, humor and Jackiness
The last 2 movies are underrated in my opinion... Not story-wise, but the interaction and great character building with Jack & Hector Barbossa... Those two Truly made the Pirates franchise, and Geoffrey Rush' performance as Barbossa made him my favourite character and pirate.
I think they honestly just did the best they could especially in the last film, Barbosa is probably the best character throughout the entire franchise and Javier Bardem and Barbosa are what kept the last from being completely forgettable, the first 3 just work so well together the last 2 just always felt unnecessary but atleast the 4th was still a decent movie overall
I think Jack and Barbossa are good for an actual plot of other characters - as we have seen in the last two movies. Will and Elizabeth ARE the heart of the movies and watching both of them grow and have character development was that extra layer of depth the trilogy had.
Why don't the nine pieces of eight make sense? Piece of eight was the name of the Spanish Dollar because it was worth 8 real. And it is explained in the movie that the pirates wanted to ban Calypso with nine pices of eight but all of them were broke at the time so they used random stuff
The first film was just lightning in a bottle in how it took off and worked so amazingly well. The sequels couldn't quite match it and Depp's act got tired fast yet in 2003, it was a true honest surprise to work.
Despite the recent films , this franchise still holds a place in my heart . The theme and most of the stories r one of the best adventures in cinema , also “Dead man’s chest” is still my favorite because of the “wheel of fortune” scene.
20:47 they way I bought it was how back in the day people thought that if you were to continue to sail off into the water you would fall from the edge of the earth, at least that was the urban myth
The final movie had a HUGE plothole in Will becoming like davy jones. It was established that Davy only went all squiddy because he stopped ferrying souls to the afterlife and it appeared as though Will had continued to do so, so he shouldnt have changed at all.
I saw a pretty good fan theory that mentioned that this isn't the first time Henry's tried this, and that because Will keeps sparing him the barnacles are forming on his face
That’s not a plot hole. Will wasn’t turning into a sea creature like Davy Jones. The Flying Dutchman spends most of its time under water. It’s completely expected for barnacles and other sea life to grow or attach to him
@@Lil_Valor Barnacles grow on animals on places they can't easily srub against hard surfaces to remove them. How the f would they grow on a human, that has hands, and can use tools?
@@brixcer Then the question becomes why would he stop doing it? The trilogy established that Will is stubbornly loyal to his causes. So for him to just drop his duty, that's the same kind of character assasination as turning Luke Skywalker into a grumpy coward, who'd consider murdering the son of his sister in his sleep. Not to mention, he seems to not have complete controll over the crew of the Dutchman, which makes even less sense.
The wedding scene on the ship alone is probably my top favorite scenes in all of movies. I miss when movies had whimsy and fun - a TRUE adventure from start to finish.
I think it’s a perfectly rated franchise. I consistently rewatch the movies every so often. The trilogy is absolutely amazing and I never get tired of them. The 4th is still very enjoyable that I see as a smaller scale spin off type movie. Only rewatched the 5th a couple times because it’s a good finale story to Barbossa, but overall a bad movie
Thank you for mentioning that Jack fills the mentor role of the story of the first film! I’ve heard people say that the first film is about Will and Elizabeth, and that Jack is just meandering in the background, but remove Jack, and you lose so much backstory and the story altogether! Jack helps Will leave Port Royal, find Elizabeth, survive a fight with the undead crew-if Jack wasn’t immortal, nor dueling Barbossa, Will would have been overwhelmed and lost-and ultimately killing Barbossa through quick and clever planning on the fly! Jack may not be the main protagonist, but he is far more important than even Norrington and the Governor.
The first one is definitely the best and is up there with what I think are perfect movies, so I agree with the 10/10. I still have love for 2 and 3 but I understand people's issues with them. But Dead Man's Chest is probably my favorite soundtrack.... I think I like it more than Curse of the Black Pearl.
If they even made another movie, id hope that its about young Jack. Don't touch the originals at all with maybe only Barbosa because we know they have a history together. You would also have it sorta start with the flashback in pirates 5, show how Jack became Jack, but not too much. Almost like your telling his story as if it was a legend if that makes sense.
I grew up on the first three movies. I personally enjoy stranger tides and dead men tell no tales felt unnecessary. But the first three PotC films were amazing!
15:45 - Y'know what's funny about that? The Liars Dice scene was cut down for theaters. When the film released, it was actually unrealized until the whole thing was released later.
It’s also strange the post ending credit scene of Angelica never has any effect on the next film. It is just forgotten. Also it's sad Johnny Depp was drunk when working in Dead Men Tell No Tales.
I'd enjoy an lotr video, doing the same as you did in this video for the OG 3 movies and hobbit. Great analysis of the pirate films man. 👍 Black Pearl and Dead Man's chest are two of my favorite movies ever. I agree At world's end kinda falls apart and is only really good for like 45 minutes out of its almost 3 hour runtime.
before I really get into the video I just wanna say that I think the first movie is pretty much pefect and I love it. everyone always hates on the 2nd and 3rd movies, but to me they're SO good. I see them more as one long movie instead of just 2 separate ones. contrary to what most fans and critics said, I also really like the 4th movie. not as much as the first 3, but I still think it was a very solid entry. I liked that they swapped the love (triangle) drama for a family drama here. the interactions between Jack and Barbossa are also great. the 5th one is really the only one where I'd say it's somewhat of a stinker.
The way i always look at these is, the 1st can be its own stand-alone movie, if it never got a sequel it would be a perfect conclusion. 2-3 are a fun duo and another satisfying ending without taking away from the first movie, 4 while a fun, felt completely unnecessary compared to the first 3 other then Jack, it could have been entirely different characters and it wouldn't have changed much. The 2 love interests didn't really add anything and where just a replacement for Will and Elizabeth. The 5th is just a bad movie in general, Javier Bardem was excellent for what he was given but everything mostly just felt like a cash grab because the movies had honestly kinda gotten played out by the 4th movie, and if it wasn't for Javier Bardem and Barbosa it would be completely forgettable
POTC is one of those rare examples of a franchise that was once insanely popular, then became overrated, then became overrated, and now is underrated and actually better than most franchises since
Great video, and I’d probably have the same rank for the films. However I think the “Prophecy” for the one legged man came from the voodoo guy? I guess he had some kind of future telling ability iirc. Could be wrong though, it’s been a long time since I saw the 4th
I loves Pirates. Rewatch them annually, I'd say. The first 3 movies, that is. I dont hate the 4th, but I really dislike how as the movies progressed, Jack became a caricature of himself. Oh and, the music. Hans Zimmer is the best at what he does and it adds so, so much to these movies
W movie franchise. Dead Man's chest being my personal favorite. Very captivating. For that Loed if the Rings video you mentioned. Yea that needs like atleast 2 hours of deciphering peak lol. Plus the extended editions. Absolute peak must be deciphered.
I'm going to be real The pirates trilogy is 10/10 to me and I think my third favorite trilogy of all time. My ranking: 1. Dead Mans Chest 10/10 2. Curse of the Black Pearl 10/10 3. At Worlds End 10/10 4. On Stranger Tides 9/10 5. Dead Man Tell No Tales 9/10 With rewatches throughout the years are how the 4th and 5th went to that high of a number lol. I adore this franchise
as much as I like curse of the black pearl dead mans chest is the just the essence of pirates to me the plot does take sometime to get moving but once davy jones is introduced its peak
Will being freed from the curse should have led to him moving on into the afterlife since his heart was cut out and the obligations of the Dutchman needing a captain to look after the sea were what allowed him to stay alive.
Ok i had to stop watching after you basically said the whole Calypso thing makes no sense, like dude watch the movie. Davy Jones taught the pirate lords how to trap Calypso in her human form so they could have control of the sea, they used their 9 pieces of 8th do that( btw that was actual currency back then and Jack is the only one that actually has a piece of 8th but considering as Gibbs put "the original lords were broke" they used whatever they happened to have which is why they needed to find Jack because with his piece of 8th releasing her wouldn't work. They had to release Calypso so she could hopefully turn the tides in their favor, which she kinda did by creating that whirlpool and if you remember anything from the first movie its that the Black Pearl is the fastest ship in the 7 seas, and the only reason she helped them was after learning about Jones' betrayal So Calypso was very important to the movie as she is the main plotpoint
Wow this is my favorite of these essay type channels and I'm confused that he does my favorite frnacise now, I've already watched endless of these videos and thought he had one too
Some of the worst takes I’ve ever heard in my life in this video… still watching the whole thing cuz this series is my hyper-fixation, but this is making me mad at 2am, and preventing my sleep. GRAAAHHHH
24:12 "9 pieces of eight" refers to 9 Spanish dollars, which at the time were often called pieces of eight. Though the pirates were broke at the time, so they used nic-nacs instead of actual money
My problem with On Stranger Tides is that it's "based" on a book by the same title by Tim Powers, written in the 80s. Long before the POTC franchise made pirates an actually profitable cinematic thing (in the 70s-90s, there were a string of really big pirate movie flops, and the common wisdom seemed to be pirates were just box office poison), I really thought On Stranger Tides would make an amazing movie. Unfortunately, what happened is that after the Black Pearl hit big, Disney bought the rights to On Stranger Tides, to make it part of the POTC franchise. Even that seemed like it might not be SUCH a bad idea. Blackbeard is a huge, supernatural villain in the book, and given we'd dealt with Davy Jones, it didn't seem out of place for Blackbeard to become the next big bad. But instead of adapting the book by cleverly melding it with the POTC world, they wound up kind of picking over the bones of the book, and it melded with the POTC world very awkwardly. I really think that's just a matter of writers who couldn't figure it out. One of the key problems is that they were taking a story that had a very Will Turner-like protagonist, but as you point out, they had decided that Jack Sparrow was now going to be the main character. He's not the right kind of character to slot into that "young Will Turner" role (by which I mean, the Will of the first movie, at the start of his journey). But, unlike with the Black Pearl and the original trilogy, they also weren't committed to creating *as* strong a secondary protagonist to Jack, as Jack was to Will and Elizabeth. Philip is... there. Say what you want about Orlando Bloom, but he did have a certain amount of presence and he held his own as a character. They would have had to cast someone much more charismatic in the Philip role, but to do that, they would have had to be determined for him to be a protagonist along with Jack; and they didn't think they needed that. I love Ian McShane as an actor, but he was also miscast as Blackbeard. He didn't have the physical stature, and he under-played it. I can only assume that was the fault of the writing and the direction he was given. He just didn't feel like the same kind of menace that Davy Jones had. He needed to be larger than life, and that's just not how Blackbeard was played. It's a shame to see a book you really loved get chopped into bits to give just some minor flavor to another story. I do recognize, though, that that's a problem with the movie that's very particular to people who were fans of that book.
Hey man I would love to see you make content on the TWD games. I enjoy your content a lot and I've noticed these last few videos haven't been performing that well. That being said I feel like you have a gold mine of content via the telltale games
8:48 while I agree that the ship battle in Curse is fantastic, it has nothing on the realistic brutality of the ambush toward the end of Master and Commander. If you haven't seen that movie, I implore you to watch it. One of Russel Crowe's best roles and one of the best age of sail movies. Came out around the same time as Curse of The Black Pearl so it got kind of overshadowed, but it is an amazing film.
This is so weird, watched deadmans chest tonight and thought to myself, I wonder if thrifty typewriter has done a video on pirates of the the Caribbean. Only to come one here and seen he's done one today😂
Thank you!! I always thought On Stranger Tides was pretty solid. I liked it better than the convoluted third movie! And the fountain of youth stuff was cool, idk why everybody hates on it
I always felt that something was off about the third film, but wasn't sure how to put it into words. I think everything you said was spot on. Other comments here seem to insist that failure to enjoy the third movie is somehow a "skill issue". I disagree. It's very messy all around. It certainly has enjoyable moments, but it's always felt like a chore to get through to me. I'm also not a fan of the increasing unbelievability and overuse of fantasy elements in the films as they progress. One or two central fantastical elements is fine, but once we get a city of pirate ships stacked ontop of eachother, and pirate lords, it just seems silly to me. The same can be said of the fourth movie with the zombies and "remote-control" ship. I think if they kept the fountain of youth and the mermaids, but cut all the rest, it'd have been much more enjoyable. Black Beard as a normal, yet fiersome pirate. Ordinary pirate crew, ordinary pirate ship. Let the cunning of his character stand for itself, instead of resorting to all the voodoo. Build the hype, trusting the audience to be familiar with the myth of Black Beard, and when his character is finally revealed, let him live up to the legend as we know it, rather than giving him magical powers. Someone who would make even Barbossa seem small by comparison.
1. The Curse of the Black Pearl (9.7/10) 2. Dead Man's Chest (9/10) 3. At World's End (8.5/10) 4. Dead Men Tell No Tales (4.5/10) 5. On Stranger Tides (4/10)
Regarding what the critics said about 2 and 3, guess what. I don’t give a crap! 1-3 imo are the best in the franchise and are among my favorite movie list. Also, The deleted scenes from Potc 3 are some of the best stuff I’ve ever seen! I really wished they kept a lot of them in since they added so much more nuance and development to the characters, especially Jack.
It may seem strange to say (having always been a fantasy saga), but if I have to say what my favorite of the trilogy is, it's the first. Jack is not yet reduced to a clown, but is indeed very cunning and sagacious and not without his serious moments. Will and Elizabeth work very well and are excellently played, but it is Barbossa above all who steals the show. All my respect to Bill Nighy (Davy Jones), who brought to the screen a tormented and rather complex villain - with his love and hate relationship with Calypso - but I appreciate more that lovable scoundrel played by Geoffrey Rush.
I think we forgive the length and complexity of the trilogy because the villains are so great. I want as much Barbossa, Davy Jones, Tia Dalma, and even Beckett as possible.
I truly think the ranking of the movies is release order. I think 1-3 are great. Sure, 3 is the worse of the Trilogy, but I don't see it as bad in any way. 4 is fine. However since it's the start of a new trilogy that didn't have any good direction it kinda drags it down a bit(just like the Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars). If a 6 comes out, and its actually good, then there's a chance that the Trilogy can be saved, but 6 potentially being a Reboot or just completely disconnected from the other 5 just make that highly unlikely.
My favorite moment from stranger tides was when Jack blew up the lighthouse an said: I hope everybody saw that, because I will not be doing that again!❤
One memory that comes back when I watch the first movie was back when this movie was released on DVD I worked at toys r us and we had this huge snow storm that we ended up closing the mall but the whole time I was at work we had no customers so I bought a huge container of juju bees and ate that while in the video game section we have TVs setup to show movies while in there so we watched it while still getting paid, I still remember I had to lay in my boss's truck bed because he drove all the staff home in the storm
I think they should steer away from making a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and instead just focus on making a new pirate based franchise. The big issue is that everyone expects a disney pirate movie to be a caribbean retread, but disney (or whichever other company) should break away from that mould and try out something new, and breathe new life into the theme of pirates
My opinion: Pirates could've been a one-and-done film and it would've been perfectly fine. Making it a trilogy also worked, even though the second one practically _demanded_ a third film to tie everything up. 4 and 5, though, made the worst mistake it could have: it made Jack the main character. Jack is, in the end, a Joey Tribiani or a Cliff Clavin; he's excellent when there are straight-men/women to focus on, but he's just too much when he's the focus of the entire thing. Also, Jack Sparrow pretty much exposed Johnny Depp's . . . laziness when playing characters, I guess? He did a decent number of film afterwards where he played Jack Sparrow, and I honestly think that he'd be thought less-of today if it weren't for his legal drama making him stay relevant (and something of a martyr to people who don't actually care about the thing they claim he's the patron saint of).
5. Dead men tell no tales (genuinely one of the worst films ive ever seen) 4. On stranger tides (pointless and unnecessary. Meh.) 3. At worlds end (fantastic trilogy ender. Messy sure, but full of style, flare, and excitement.) 2. The curse of the black pearl (perfect blockbuster. Amazing performances and world building.) 1. Dead mans chest ( the most exciting of the bunch. Also has crazy sequences you wouldnt expect from a movie of this scale. I love it)
Favorite Movie Trilogies: 1. Star Wars Original Trilogy 2. Lord of the Rings Trilogy 3. The Dark Knight Trilogy 4. Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy 5. Spider-Man Original Trilogy
First 2 movies are goated. I especially love the second o e for 2 reasons. 1. Davy Jones 2. The fight scenes feel like they were choreographed by Buster Keaton
0:50 I am sorry, UnderDog its a banger and had a banger song , ill die on that hill, the husky one dont really remember it that much but i remember i kinda liked it
I absolutely loved the Trilogy. Saw all of them in Theaters from Elementary school to Middle school. However when the 4th film came out it became obvious that the Series should have been put to rest. Haven't even bothered seeing the 5th film and honestly I hope Johnny Depp is doing better since the Heard debacle.

Pretty sure it is briefly mentioned in At World's End that Beckett ordered Jones to kill his pet. But it could definitely be easy to miss
At World’s End is my favorite
As was I, lad. (My favourite quote from coincidentally another pirate iconic video game Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag)
I had the most fun with the third movie and loved its plot, humor and Jackiness
Same here! Amazing trilogy
Mine too
DMC will alwyas be my favorite
At world's end is my personal favorite
For anyone wondering, “Pieces of Eight” are a term used to refer to a silver Spanish coin that was used internationally during those times.
What did we do so right to deserve this? 40 minutes TTT video to wake up to on a Saturday morning!
The third film is hands down one of the best! 😎
The final movie had a HUGE plothole in Will becoming like davy jones. It was established that Davy only went all squiddy because he stopped ferrying souls to the afterlife and it appeared as though Will had continued to do so, so he shouldnt have changed at all.
Well did they ever sah he kept on doing it? Cuz my take was that he had stoppes doing kt
Putting On Stranger Tides above At World's End is evil
Dastardly take
I guess I'm the only one who agrees with it. I don't think 3 is bad but 4 is just...more fun I guess? Idk I kinda put them on the same level really.
The wedding scene on the ship alone is probably my top favorite scenes in all of movies. I miss when movies had whimsy and fun - a TRUE adventure from start to finish.
the first three are amazing and i see the 4th and 5th as just bonus adventures
A lot of people say Jack was at his best in the first movie. In the rest they say he wasn't the same.
Nah imo he was great from 1-3, somewhat in 4, but def not in 5
@@jacobkim4632Fr
At World’s End will always be my favourite, but you’re completely right about all your complaints
Love this channel thrifty thanks for typewriting !
The first three are no doubt awesome, but I also kinda like the fourth one
If they even made another movie, id hope that its about young Jack. Don't touch the originals at all with maybe only Barbosa because we know they have a history together. You would also have it sorta start with the flashback in pirates 5, show how Jack became Jack, but not too much. Almost like your telling his story as if it was a legend if that makes sense.
They should definitely need to retcon the last two, and do young Jack based on deleted scenes and the books/comics.
The worst thing about Curse of The Black Pearl is having no Davy Jones.
Thanks for the drop man
Jack is definitely the main character of pirates
Not the first one
@ yes he is
@@Joseph-nb4cu will is the main character you can search it up a lot of the plot focuses on will
I love movies 1-3! Also 6/10 for At World's End is harsh and it shouldn't be below On Stranger Tides!
Dude my rankings have always been the exact same as yours! Hell yeah, this video confirms my beliefs and biases
before I really get into the video I just wanna say that I think the first movie is pretty much pefect and I love it.
everyone always hates on the 2nd and 3rd movies, but to me they're SO good.
1-3 are great and i will always stand on that
POTC is one of those rare examples of a franchise that was once insanely popular, then became overrated, then became overrated, and now is underrated and actually better than most franchises since
I absolutely love all five of the Pirates films.
Great video, and I’d probably have the same rank for the films. However I think the “Prophecy” for the one legged man came from the voodoo guy? I guess he had some kind of future telling ability iirc. Could be wrong though, it’s been a long time since I saw the 4th
Yeah the Quartermaster of Blackbeard
My ranking:
1. Dead Mans Chest 10/10
2. Curse of the Black Pearl 10/10
3. At Worlds End 10/10
4. On Stranger Tides 9/10
5. Dead Man Tell No Tales 9/10
With rewatches throughout the years are how the 4th and 5th went to that high of a number lol. I adore this franchise
22:47 Trying to find Gimli 😂
Peak trilogy
as much as I like curse of the black pearl dead mans chest is the just the essence of pirates to me the plot does take sometime to get moving but once davy jones is introduced its peak
They had to release Calypso so she could hopefully turn the tides in their favor, which she kinda did by creating that whirlpool and if you remember anything from the first movie its that the Black Pearl is the fastest ship in the 7 seas, and the only reason she helped them was after learning about Jones' betrayal
So Calypso was very important to the movie as she is the main plotpoint
Wow this is my favorite of these essay type channels and I'm confused that he does my favorite frnacise now, I've already watched endless of these videos and thought he had one too
Some of the worst takes I’ve ever heard in my life in this video… still watching the whole thing cuz this series is my hyper-fixation, but this is making me mad at 2am, and preventing my sleep. GRAAAHHHH
I'm glad you also feel this way 😂 Pirates isn't hard to understand but I feel like people don't use their brains while they watch it 😂
@@welding_winoexactly, I feel like he just rushed through the movies
24:12
"9 pieces of eight" refers to 9 Spanish dollars, which at the time were often called pieces of eight. Though the pirates were broke at the time, so they used nic-nacs instead of actual money
Great way to start my Saturday morning! Now it time to rewatch this franchise. How about a terminator franchise? Or even Starship troopers
Just the terminator video, going to watch that now
Did you watch Arcane? I wanna hear your opinion on show.
Yea Arcane is dope
I love all 5 movies equally, I refuse to have any sort of dislike for these movies, I love them
My problem with On Stranger Tides is that it's "based" on a book by the same title by Tim Powers, written in the 80s.
I remember watching Dead Man’s Chest over and over again as a kid without really caring about the plot just to see those cool action scenes
Babe! Thrifty posted twice in one week!!❤
And the fountain of youth stuff was cool, idk why everybody hates on it
Brilliant video.
Also, please do a review of Daryl Dixon S2?
Awesome vid
1. The Curse of the Black Pearl (9.7/10)
2. Dead Man's Chest (9/10)
3. At World's End (8.5/10)
4. Dead Men Tell No Tales (4.5/10)
5. On Stranger Tides (4/10)
in worlds end the "up is down" is referring to "As Above So Below" aka Dante's Inferno and where Jack is, one of the layers of hell, Purgatory.
Don’t ever even CONSIDER calling Pirates of the Caribbean ‘overrated’ in front of ME.
I think you will be doing that lotr vid :) already over 900 likes! Well deserved ❤ love you channel!
My only gripe after this is they frogot Will and Elizabeth were the main characters, but since Jack was iconic the focused on him more
You should review underworld next!
I think we forgive the length and complexity of the trilogy because the villains are so great. I want as much Barbossa, Davy Jones, Tia Dalma, and even Beckett as possible.
Is that Disney+ warning message shown at the beginning real??? 😂 that is freaking hilarious what a circus we all currently live in
tbf some of the old Disney movies are incredibly uhhhhh… rough around the edges
The messages were used in the early 2000s on re release whoopi Goldberg also reads them
Well, there was also The Chronicles of Narnia, which was another underrated franchise Disney helped make.
why'd you delete the lightyear vid?
I love this franchise (to a point)
Great video. I love all 5 of these. On Stranger Tides is my personal favourite
I love On Stranger Tides!
5. Dead men tell no tales (genuinely one of the worst films ive ever seen)
4. On stranger tides (pointless and unnecessary. Meh.)
3. At worlds end (fantastic trilogy ender. Messy sure, but full of style, flare, and excitement.)
2. The curse of the black pearl (perfect blockbuster. Amazing performances and world building.)
1. Dead mans chest ( the most exciting of the bunch. Also has crazy sequences you wouldnt expect from a movie of this scale. I love it)
Putting at World's End below Stranger Tides is one of the more boneheaded takes I've ever seen
Favorite Movie Trilogies:
1. Star Wars Original Trilogy
2. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
3. The Dark Knight Trilogy
4. Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
5. Spider-Man Original Trilogy
Please do the series black sails, it's on netflix and it's a pirate show, 4 seasons and it's amazing
First 2 movies are goated. I especially love the second o e for 2 reasons.
1. Davy Jones
2. The fight scenes feel like they were choreographed by Buster Keaton
On Stranger Tides is underrated ❤
0:50 I am sorry, UnderDog its a banger and had a banger song , ill die on that hill, the husky one dont really remember it that much but i remember i kinda liked it
A Pirates movie without Depp would be franchise suicide.
Oh I've been waiting for this! Grew up with the Pirates franchise and the trilogy has always been stellar for action adventure.
