    Forget how John Mayer plays it, this is how Hudson Davis plays it. You should own this entirely, that shit was phenomenal. I’ve seen many many solos and guitar videos on UA-cam and this was by far one of the best videos ever!! 😮🤩

The purpose of music isn't to serve the egos of people gatekeeping what's good and isn't based on their perspective. The existence of tones that are better subjectively doesn't diminish this player's tone in the slightest; nor does it invalidate someone who thinks this tone is incredible.

    The breakup tone is so insanely perfect… if I ever got an amp guitar combo that sounded like that I would hot glue the knobs on both guitar and amp in their current position as to avoid ever deviating from the objectively perfect tone. Obviously a lot of tone is how you play but I would venture a guess that this guy is a bit of an obsessive tone chaser.

      This definitely sounds like "I don't need no doctor" era mayer playing with some of the later tapping bending vibes mixed in with some Dead & Co. Era scales for good measure. Almost every one of those licks have been in a Mayer solo.

    Very very very cool solo! Loved it. Not 100% Johnny I think, but definitely very cool elements in there that are definitely things he would play. Can't wait to have a transcription of this and go at it :)

    Man this was some really amazing playing, touch, and tone! I do think that John would have left a lot more space though. Maybe 2011 John would throw everything at it like that, but current John would tell more of a story.

      not sure exactly what Hudson used for this particular vid but he mentions his gear in his Instagram livestreams. He uses: Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, Yamaha THR10, TS808, TC Electronic Flashback Delay, J. Rockett Archer OD, Xotic Soul Driven, an SM57, and Bias Effects so you can kind of get a sense of what he uses :)
