Blanche's behavior, albeit not ideal, is fairly normal and quite realistic. It's a shame that most modern shows don't seem to captivate such human mindsets as well.
This show really showed how complex Blanche’s character could be. Even though she was conceited, she was also shown as very insecure. And whilst she was the most sexually liberated of the four girls, she still couldn’t fully accept that her younger brother was gay. Rue McClanahan pulled the character off perfectly 👍🏻
“I can accept the fact that he’s gay, but why does he have to slip a ring on the guy’s finger so the whole world will know?” “Why did you marry George?” “We loved each other. We wanted to make a lifetime commitment and wanted everyone to know.” “That’s what Doug and Clayton want, too. Everybody wants someone to grow old with, and shouldn’t everyone have that chance?” This show was honestly WAY ahead of its time to be talking about same sex marriage at time where it wasn’t legal

Just because she was sexually liberated didn't mean she would approve of others. Especially gays. Blanche was raised a Southern Baptist and they are notoriously anti-gay. She actually did a good job tolerating more than most Baptists would.

Clayton is very interesting in his coming out story. He came out to Blanche in Season 4, and Big Daddy died in Season 5, so when Clay announces he is going to marry Doug, that happens in Season 6.
