      It is possible to get postdoc if you apply to postdoc jobs in your research area. This video may help. See the postdoc playlist on my channel.

    Basically you are asking people to learn python during PhD and then looking for Data science job after PhD? What is the benefit of having PhD in this case Sir?

    • @Drganguli
      @Drganguli  Рік тому

      The video was for those not getting jobs. If you see carefully, many options are there like government jobs, think tanks, foreign universities, non-profits, teaching, coaching etc. The choice depends on the field. But I see many math and stats PhD in data science also if they learn python etc. They don’t want to become college teachers. Software knowledge and soft skills are key to those who want jobs in industry. But if you are globally mobile, you can land faculty and research jobs in your area. Not everyone is willing to move.

    Sir, I asked my queries in previous videos also. I am stuck between a few choices...plz help. I worked as a Project Associate-II at a prestigious institution after Ph.D, thinking that at least I'll get some good research papers and I should not think of the position as per that time and then I'll get a good enough job in teaching to start with. But, after working for 18 months, my scientist was not willing to publish even a single paper, nor giving any credit, so I left. But, wherever I gave the interview to join a faculty postion in good private institutions, I cleared initial first round of question answer session and teaching performance but when my turn came to meet with VC or some higher authorities, they put me in waiting list due to lack of publications. Now, I regret the period of those 18 months when I worked very hard to get some good papers as my Ph.D papers are not up to that level except one or two.
    Now, what should I choose among these options:
    1) Joining in Research Associate position in same organisation under some different scientist ( which may lead some research papers and high salary)
    2) Joining as a guest faculty in govt institution ( less salary, interior area, but teaching experience will be added).
    3) Working in a private university ( salary lesser than or equal to guest faculty) and keep preparing and trying.
    In teaching field, I may get the time of preparing for some exams while in reseaech I know there will be no extra time, but as we see govt exams scenarios, it is better not to keep expecting about those exams.
    I am very confused sir, I know this is the time of taking risk, but people are ready to work as a guest faculty even in low salary just hoping that someday they will get a permanent position.
    I am not interested in post doc and also did not get any such position after trying, so should I join as a RA to get some good research papers or just switch to teaching in guest faculty or an ordinary private institution where there will be no quality reseaech.

    • @Drganguli
      @Drganguli  9 місяців тому

      The research and teaching career paths are quite different. If you can get the research associate job, you can take it. It can sometimes lead to a permanent research job in the same lab or some other lab. Teaching guest faculty jobs are ok but may not lead to permanent jobs if papers are not there. Some people who have papers can go from guest faculty to regular faculty jobs. Private colleges will need teaching but will be more or less permanent as long as students are coming in that field. If enrolment reduces they can sometimes reduce staff. I would suggest that you apply for research job and take it if you get it. Otherwise try the teaching areas. Only getting the job can decide for you so it is better to be open to all possibilities. Government exams have too much competition so the chance of getting is low. Better not to give that option too much weightage. Best wishes.

      @@Drganguli Thank you for the response sir. When I left that research institution, one of the scientists offered me the RA position but due to election and all, these recruitment processes are delayed. Looking at the government recruitment scenarios, I am afraid that the guest faculty job will be monotonous and non satisfactory due to less salary and uncertainty of future also, however, these jobs get extended for years due to less appointments of permanent positions. As per the job scenario these days, I don't want to bind myself to some particular area and I think if at this point of time I leave the research then it will be hard for me to get back there. To get faculty position in good private universities, I need good papers. I want to go in teaching ultimately, but need good papers for joining good institutions. All these things made me super confused.

    Sir, do we have to take up IELTS/TOEFL and GRE for pursuing a post doc in Australia?

    • @Drganguli
      @Drganguli  Рік тому

      For postdoc they generally don't need IELTS etc. They will determine from interview as to how good you are in English. They will also peruse your research papers and thesis if needed. Though IELTS is not needed explicity, an IELTS level 6 plus capability is needed to do well in an English speaking country. You can see these videos:

      @@GoogleScholar2001 actually, there is nothing wrong about it. May I ask an honest question? Is it worth doing a PhD in the 50’s? I have always wanted to do research and teach in a university! Not sure whether I am a bit too late 😊

    • @Drganguli
      @Drganguli  6 місяців тому +1

      It is difficult to answer this question as the outcome of the PhD in terms of career is unpredictable. But I know people who did PhD in their late 50’s. This was more for personal fulfilment though. Unfortunately teaching jobs at universities always get lot of young applicants so they are preferred. But in some cases it may be possible to enter a university at an older age as a teaching professor or professor of practice, though the latter is possible even without a PhD in some cases.
