starting 11th year of searching an industry job. never wanted academia job, never applied for one, after many years someone I know gave me post doc for 2 years while I kept looking. but now my resume looks even more academia focused which never wanted to do. I tried not even mentioning phd and post doc on some applications. it's a lottery, I don't think it's possible. have never had an interview. would be cool to have one some day
I hope that you have found a position by now. If your PhD was, in any way, quantitative and dealt with data analysis, you may have the basics of what you need to become a data scientist. You would still need to learn languages like Python and SQL and maybe even start out as a data analyst first, but it is an option as having a PhD does not "over qualify" you out of a data science position.
@@fornesus I've been programming near daily for fun since age of qbasic and Pascal, not really a fan of python but specific languages aren't really a barrier when you know hundreds and algo/datastructure theory. Well what you have in hand is better than what you may have down the road. Postdoc in usa is not easy to get. But make sure you do research before heading off to Russia and avoid any war zones.

My thesis primarily focuses on the synthesis and characterization of semiconductor nanoparticles and their applications in biology (biosensing). Could you please recommend what types of jobs I should consider applying for? Thank you.
You need to find companies which are into sensors and semiconductors. You can also look for research arms of large companies such as corporate research labs. Finally you can look at government research labs.

I'm n 2nd year PhD but I have made my mind once I finish my PhD I'm not wasting a second in academia. It's very toxic and unhealthy for my health
Yes it can be a negative experience for some people. It is good to listen to your gut feeling on these matters.
Thanks for this great video, PhD scientists who are trying to transition to industry ( like myself) will benefit from this.
Best wishes
