I've just re-watched your reaction here. Having heard you relate how you've started to actually listen to this type of music after aging a bit, I'm very much compelled to bring this piece to your attention. I believe it will completely carry you away as it does to me. "Die Moldau" (a river in eastern Europe) composed by Bedřich Smetana. ua-cam.com/video/gTKsHwqaIr4/v-deo.html This piece is beautiful beyond description. I can say no more.
It’s obvious you’ve discovered that you’re not just a causal music listener, but a passionate fanatic like most of the people here taking this journey with you. When you get the chance, definitely treat yourself to the symphony. If you don’t have any preferred composers or classical compositions yet, look for your local symphony doing music from film scores. Those are awesome and a fun way to enter that kind of live music experience. Great reaction to an incredible suite performed by an elite orchestra. Life’s too short to stop seeking great art. Keep up the great work!
It's a misconception that going to a symphony cost a huge amount of money or requires fancy clothes. They usually have matinees and great Pops series that are reasonable. One thing about the symphonies vs operas is that you are there to listen, and that can happen just as well from all seats in the house.
Kids should be shown these kinds of videos in music class. It so brilliantly shows all the different instruments telling one great story. And Polo, you can wear whatever you ding dang want to the symphony!❤
I had to hop on this one! I saw The Godfather in a theater in 1972, and the music sent me to another place - it still does. Thank you for a great reaction. Also, the Danish Symphony Orchestra does the music from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly from this same concert, and it is is also wonderful.
Had chills the whole time and tears in my eyes, that was Beyond Beautiful ❤️ If you get the chance go see a symphony , you will treasure that experience forever ❤️
The Danish National Symphony Orchestra is one of the best in the world. They do every movie score impeccable justice. All of the solo instruments in this piece have haunting melodies That's a mandilin, not a guitar. It's a major instrument used in Italian music. If you haven't reacted to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", you MUST! Also The Star Wars theme is excellent. I like how these videos are produced so that certain iimportant ; (to the particular piece) instruments are showcased.
If you're lucky enough to live in a city that has its own symphony orchestra, do yourself a favor...Treat yourself to a performance some night. Get a ticket and get all dressed up and make a night of it. Hearing this music performed live, in a concert hall, by a great orchestra is a magical experience. It makes you feel like you walk out a different person than when you walked in.
I remember the first time I went to a symphony. I think I was around ten years old. My family was very musical, piano duets every Sunday. I can remember how blown away I was by the full orchestra in person and how the floor vibrated from the full sound of the instruments.
So many instruments involved in this complex piece, some of which I can't even spell. Such a beautiful but haunting melody, just lovely and so suitable for such an epic film series. Nice one POLO.
Before this you listened to the Good , the Bad and The Ugly and with these two you have the two foremost Italian geniuses of film music: Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota.
When your Italian blood starts to flow through your veins again. Italy is not a nation, it is a lifestyle, between culture, beauty and elegance and these sounds make you feel it all
Wow; this was amazing; the music is wonderful, watching the musicians play is fascinating, and at the same time you are getting mental flashbacks of movie scenes and specific moments. Wonderful way to start my day; thank you for this reaction, Polo ❤ I’ve said this before but beautiful music reminds me that there is potential for good in humanity.
I love how open you have been on your musical journey, and how much you are obviously enjoying the experience. I played in band and orchestra from grade school through college (clarinet and bassoon) and your appreciation of this kind of music just makes me so happy for all the new things you have in front of you!
I’ve seen both the The Godfather and The Godfather Part 2 so many times that scenes from the films are practically floating before my eyes as I listen. It’s such beautiful music, and so evocative of pain and heartache to me.
The Danish National Orchestra is one of the best if not the best troop in the world. You've already heard them doing the song "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum. They do an amazing job.
I LOVE this!! Having seen the entire Godfather saga a gazillion times, I can say they have covered every theme written for this epic film. Composer Nino Rota would be proud! This orchestra did a stellar job! I could see those specific scenes where those melodies were played, in my mind as they were playing. The soundtrack to The Godfather is phenomenal. The instrument that gentleman is playing is actually a mandolin, which originated in Italy. Another composer who has written really powerful soundtracks is Thomas Newman, who did the music for Meet Joe Black, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre among others.
One of the four great Italian composers of film music of all time, Nino Rota (with the other three being Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani and Ludovico Einaudi). You should check out some of his other iconic themes, like 8 1/2, La Strada, La Dolce Vita...
I am remindednof goung home to visit my parents and they have this type music on the TV playing in the background all day. Good to nap to, or read a book, or dinner, and to watch it is like watching an artist draw/paint, just amazing
My daughter introduced me to Hans Zimmer who is famous for his movie scores, the most beautiful of his for me is the suite for interstellar the movie. Please add it to your orchestral experience!
As a Dane I of course know what a gem we have, also with some of the best musicians and conductors from all over the world, coming to conduct and play with and in it. One of the best and finest Orchestras in the world! And also an unlikely and huge hit here. Finn. Denmark
Imagine having to write the different parts for every instrument! The composer has to be able to hear all of it in his/her head. Each musician only plays their part. The conductor has to study the score in order to direct it and cue each part at the right time.
I listen to classical symphony music while I sleep. It’s the most evolved for my soul.. Polo have you reacted to George Benson- “this Masquerade “ I think you will really dig it man. Love that this piece moved you.
POLO, you might be able to find a concert near you somewhere/sometime.... throw on a suit, get one for *little man* and take him with you to a symphony??
As a classically trained musician it makes me happy to see you enjoy this, Try Holtz :The Planets : Mars the Bringer of War. The BBCProms has a great version. And that's not a Guitar it's a Mandolin,.
Here’s some junk for ya. Remember the actor who played Tuco in Leone’s Dollars trilogy? He played one of the Dons in The Godfather. He and Clint Eastwood were lifelong friends until his Death a few years ago.
So, Polo- you like the composer, John Williams who scored all Spielberg movies and all of the Star Wars films. 😊The composer of The Godfather, was in the familia - Carmine Coppola! Uncle to the director. Beautiful choice!❤ I can see all the different scenes in this music. Fantastic. Keep going with the movie scores!!! And more!!!😊 The man is playing the national instrument of Italy- the Mandolin.
More symphonies please. My 5 favorite composers are1. Mozart 2. Dvorzac 2. Mueller 3. Debussy 4.Tychosky 5. Jon Williams movie soundtracks. My spelling is bad sorry. Love your channel Polo ✌️😎💙
they did a few concerts like that movie themes everything from this to theme from avatar n Pirates of the Caribbean star wars etc etc etc cheers from denmark
The guitar that you are referring to is actually a mandolin. My grandfather played it. He was a carpenter and had been 'on the walse' - working his way through Europe - with mandolin and harmonica. .
It seems like you got hooked on classical music! Excellent! You might have fun listening to this: "The Three Tenors in Concert 1994: Brindisi ("Libiamo ne' lieti calici") from La Traviata - Warner Classics (on YT)
Every time I hear this, I'm ready to re-watch the film. The same for "Lawrence of Arabia". I can see the notes going through you. BTW, that's not a guitar; it's a mandolin.
I believe they also cover The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (watch the movie first with Clint Eastwood) and you’ll be hooked on both the film and the song
Great reaction. And by the way, stop that "gettin' old" blubbering! I'm 70 and just got into Chinese rap! Music in you and it will talk! As someone else commented, if there's a symphony orchestra near you, go! Their summer programs are usually more diverse musically. Make friends with the people (audience is ok, but I mean the staff and performers) The best seat in the house is in the middle of the orchestra during rehearsal, and if they know you, you may get an invitation eventually. Worth it.
BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES for the sports enthusiast portion of Polo to be sure and see someday (since Polo liked "Schindler's List"): "Knute Rockne All American" (1940), "The Winning Team" (1952), "Follow The Sun" (1951). "Requiem For A Heavyweight" (1962), "Jim Thorpe--- All-American" (1951), "Body And Soul" (1947), "The Stratton Story" (1949), "The Pride Of St. Louis" (1952), "The Pride Of The Yankees" (1942), "Angels In The Outfield" (1951), "Gentleman Jim" (1942).
Polo, my friend, at 16:08, that's a Mandolin. I've never played one. It has a very short and narrow fretboard. You would get much better information by Googleing the image and reading the Wikipedia article.
If you have a chance to see it, Distant Worlds doues a great Final Fantasy game symphony. Even if you've never played the games, you'll have a great time watching it
You should listen to Conan the Barbarian • Main Theme/Anvil of Crom • Basil Poledouris. That's a cool score. Or Blade Runner • Main Theme • Vangelis which is from the original Blade runner movie.
If you've never seen The godfather trilogy, I suggest you watch it the way it was intended. As three separate movies. Some years after it was released on video, they re-released it as a saga. That just put everything in chronological order. I guess they figured that made it a little easier to follow. But watching it either way, you can't get it all on one viewing. Too many different characters and too much going on to absorb it all in one viewing.
Many movie scores are orchestral. Back in the day, movies like 'The Big Country', most John Wayne movies, Clint Eastwood movies, 'Quigley Down Under' with Tom Selleck, and many others were done by orchestras. I have a lot of these... all I can find. Surprisingly, the European orchestras are really into playing US movie scores and a lot of that can be found on UA-cam. I also love the European musical Flash Mobs. That might make an interesting show for you.
this exists yet we get told by today musicians that instruments are in the past, they can't deliver the sounds we need. Mandolin very popular in Italy and bluegrass here athome.
I love classical music thanks for sharing
Enjoying this with you. We pull our eyes away from it at the same time to just stare at camara..

Holtz is a must. I played contra bass clarinet, so I received a lot of great solos.
If you like this, then you will love them playing "Once Upon A Time In The West".
Speak softly love and hold me close unto your heart…..

In the Godfather, Coppola contributed to the song of the wedding. The rest was composed by Nino Rota.

Right after that first horn. All I could think is... I believe in America..
It’s the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in the DR Konserthus in Copenhagen not the USA, the guest conductor was American though
My statement was in reference to the opening scene of the Godfather.@@georgelynch6139
The theme fits the movie perfectly too. If you haven’t watched it yet, you need too
“I know it was you Fredo.. you broke my heart”
I believe they also cover The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (watch the movie first with Clint Eastwood) and you’ll be hooked on both the film and the song
He's already done that one.
I'm pretty sure the "guitar" is a bouzouki.
Listen to the score from the movie the edge and dances with wolves my favorites
