I choose this game because I've been stuck on it nearly 10 years, due to the first boss that I never knew how to beat it until today thanks to your video ! There's absolutly no walkthrough or whatever in UA-cam to the PS1 version, so I choose this game because I wanted you to try to beat it and explain how to pass the first boss, you did it well and I really thank you for it. Yes, it's a crappy game, but I've never been stuck that much in a game and I wanted to know how to beat the first boss before dying hahaha. For me, One was a really cool and quite frustrating game. When your video section started to introduce it, the music really took me back-it’s so intense! The rage game element truly made the game absolutely thrilling, and when you’re on a roll, with everything blowing up, becoming more and more powerful, my goodness is it fun. But that platforming stuff works hard against the forward momentum of the action and much of the excitement loses steam to the frustration. I remember I did manage to beat the game (though I don’t think I got the true ending) and I was proud of myself.
Ah yes, One. I loved the demo when it came out, but quickly became unimpressed within a month when I tried out the demo for Apocalypse. One was a decent twin stick shooter, but Apocalypse was a great one.
What's really crazy about Psybadek is that when I saw the weird blue demon guy I thought, "That looks like the Toy Machine demon." Then moments later I see it's got Vans sponsorship. So that's wild.
I really feel like Treasures of the Deep, despite being a marketed Namco game is somewhat criminally unknown and disregarded for how awesome it is. Aquanauts holiday with mercenary missions, rad sub upgrades and typical Namco stuff.
I've only ever played a demo years ago, but it always stuck with me. Such a cool idea plus it has a top tier Tommy Talrico soundtrack. I'll definitely take a look at it on the channel at some point.

The number font in Dreams is nigh identical to (if not the exact same as) the font they used for the score in the Hugo tv show. UPDATE: It is also the same font as used for the gnome-tossing minigame in Harry Potter 2 which makes me think it might be a default font in the PS1 devkit.
One looks pretty cool, gonna add that to the playlist I love how creative, experimental and vast the PS1 library is. You just never know what kind of jank mess, to amazing top tier games you're gonna find. Keep making these vids :)
I have been loving this series so far. So many games I completely forgot about. I have run into colony wars at a resale shop here in Milwaukee. I’ve been really digging the nostalgia of the PS1 and thanks for excellent content Sean!
"Psybadek" sounds like a game I want to try out but only if I can find a cheap copy. I've been replaying a lot of PS1 games, many of which were bad or mediocre, so I don't think this will be all that different.
Keep your videos coming man, I absolutely love your stuff and can't wait to see more, I'm a PS1 collector so you going through obscure games helps me figure out what I should add to my collection. And your style is amazing, one of my favourite UA-camrs by far. Keep up the fantastic work.
Wow, someone actually uploaded that gameplay VHS from 1998 just a few weeks ago, also includes Dreams - and yes, it did look a little bit different at that stage in development. I think they just didn't know what they were going for with this version of the game, added those other characters with their weird mechanic, placed some enemies here and there and called it a day. Oh yeah, I remember One. It was basically the better "Contra" on the PSone. I really enjoyed it back then and looking back at it, I am amazed at how great it still looks. The name is really, really, really, unfortunate though. Burning Road looks pretty rad, I have never heard of this before (?). Very arcadey, which I like and which was very rare after Gran Turismo's release.
Dreams to Reality was kind of special as one of the first Turkish published games in Turkey. And it is damn impossible for me to run the windows version on modern systems, frustrates me to no end.
I always saw Dreams for PSX like a "spiritual sequel" or some sort of pseudo sequel to be exact, because the game is literally completedly different from its PC counterpart. Tbh i still think this game holds a bit of potential even for today standards, like if you remade the PC version with a way better gameplay, controls and a more focused plot with better polished and fully realized characters, this game would be a pretty solid franchise if realized correctly that is, thing that sadly Cryo never seemed to get right with any of their games, like i commend them for trying at least and boy they tried, but they always fumbled it right out of the gate.
It really is a shame Psybadek plays the way it does. I'm just in love with how it looks, though. It's got that late-90's/early-2000's psychadelic revival aesthetic that strikes my nostalgia hard. Think stuff like Space Channel 5, Totally Spies, or perhaps most similarly, Mila's level from Psychonauts.

Since you're into a lot of obscure games I thought I'd suggest 'pet in tv' and the Japan only squeal 'pet in tv with my dear dog' Pet in tv is like a puzzle game of sorts, the other one I'm not too sure about. There's also 'rescue shot' which is a light gun game. Anyway keep making more videos, this stuff is great!

ONE looks fun, I'll definitely give it a try. I also like how relatively colorful it is at times while still keeping a serious look. I appreciate that Burning Road was trying to be Daytona, but it also just isn't as good in any regard, hard to convince myself playing it. Graphics are alright, but the colors are a bit too dark? Controls seem to be problematic? Soundtrack actually has some fine tunes, not as amazing as Daytona ofc, but still good! Dreams is... awful, wow. I remember seeing it on a VHS with gameplay of various games... I swear it had interesting (= weird) music and did not look that bad (sure it always had this random floating things look). The main character was shirtless like in the PC game. Now he's got a random sweater on and there's also lola from fifth element and blue hulk! I also remember it got panned in magazines back then, so I never thought of buying it (though still intrigued). Psybadek is a game I played on a demo disc for longer than I should have. I think it only was a short snow level and the quacking penguins are the most hateable things ever. Controls were awful (I noticed that even back then I guess) and I could not collect everything which made me furious, especially in a sort of platformer game. Some of the backgrounds look nice at least 33:5635:19 could be from Rayman. It's definitely a game that I could've enjoyed given the right developers.

Why can you only swap characters in Dreams when the Alarm goes off? Because that s when the current character wakes up and the next one enters the dream.

Are you playing the PAL releases, or going for the NTSC/NTSC-J ones? Also also, Jade Costello, all due respect, but why would you suggest Psybadek? What's next, Running Wild?! Actually... After Omega Boost, that might be my next viewer suggestion, just to see what the reaction is. 😂
Whenever possible I opt for the NTSC release, so One, Burning Road and Psybadek were NA and Dreams was PAL as it was a region exclusive. I aim to always show the game in its best form but at least I'm used to that 50hz goodness, 50 frames per second is my brains sweet spot! Running wild is inevitable, recommendation or not 😅
hey man, now that Duckstation has nice rollback netplay, it would be nice if you could mention which games have multiplayer, mainly 2 player co-op, that would be great and ideally if you could go through and list previous games in the series that have multiplayer

The UK print ad for Psybadek is rather odd and Dreams was one of those PS1 games that no Magazine ever got Review copys of and only showed up in articles of them at the time calling it worst PS1 games. Rather unfairlty Crypt Killer and Galaxy Fight was shoved in with them and neither of those are as bad as dreams.
Haha I had the misfortune to own a copy of Dreams, Also had another Cryo title, The Guardian of Darkness, was fascinating but had that signature jank,it was bundled with an offbrand memory card and controller, that died fairly soon after.. 😅
I've been looking into Cyros games a little more after playing Dreams, because like you said they are fascinatingly janky. Expect to see more of em on the channel soon!

The plan is to keep the existing viewer requests in the wheel for now, so as long as you selected something it will remain there for the foreseeable future. although if you ever want to change your request you can just pop a comment on the channel update video and I can change em up.
I fucking hate searching for ONE, but it's a good game, as far as I can tell. Never made it past the first level. Pretty brutal to start with that platforming section. And honestly, I really prefer Apocalypse. I can play through that. I'm amazed it was ever acceptable to release a racer with three tracks. At least Burning Road seems to run better than the Daytona port and it even got a sequel. Don't miss out on Xplosive Racing, got a amazing soundtrack too! Always heard Dreams was bad, now I know. Thanks I guess. Psybadek looks like a fucking trip. Is it the trippiest 3D platformers of the time? I like the look, but the music is disappointing. So far, I'm excited for and afraid of the viewers selection. Real wild card.
I had to get straight on Xplosive Racing after trying it briefly for this video, just seemed like a wackier more content rich update to Burning Road. The viewer wheel truly is the wild card. A beautiful mix of trash and treasure 😅

I can't believe how ugly are characters from Dreams. Like, I dunno, somebody took characters from The Neverhood and modeled them into 3D objects with zero interest to make them look at least... bad? It's just.. "their" style, similar to Pax Corpus. And I hate it.
Fair enough, Dreams is worse than Bubsy and Barbie. No combat strategy (spam), no platforming strategy (fly), horrible graphics and controls, repeating poorly designed levels. I can't find a single positive thing to say after this review.
One kind of looks like the PS1 game Apocalypse made by Neversoft before THPS. I remember enjoying that game and nobody really talks about it. Edit : Haha. You mentioned Apocalypse.

The UK print ad for Psybadek is rather odd and Dreams was one of those PS1 games that no Magazine ever got Review copys of and only showed up in articles of them at the time calling it worst PS1 games. Rather unfairlty Crypt Killer and Galaxy Fight was shoved in with them and neither of those are as bad as dreams.

Haha I had the misfortune to own a copy of Dreams, Also had another Cryo title, The Guardian of Darkness, was fascinating but had that signature jank,it was bundled with an offbrand memory card and controller, that died fairly soon after.. 😅
I've been looking into Cyros games a little more after playing Dreams, because like you said they are fascinatingly janky.

The plan is to keep the existing viewer requests in the wheel for now, so as long as you selected something it will remain there for the foreseeable future. although if you ever want to change your request you can just pop a comment on the channel update video and I can change em up.

I loved one played it to death
I fucking hate searching for ONE, but it's a good game, as far as I can tell. Never made it past the first level. Pretty brutal to start with that platforming section. And honestly, I really prefer Apocalypse. I can play through that.
I'm amazed it was ever acceptable to release a racer with three tracks. At least Burning Road seems to run better than the Daytona port and it even got a sequel. Don't miss out on Xplosive Racing, got a amazing soundtrack too!

Psybadek looks like a fucking trip. Is it the trippiest 3D platformers of the time? I like the look, but the music is disappointing.

I had to get straight on Xplosive Racing after trying it briefly for this video, just seemed like a wackier more content rich update to Burning Road.

I can't believe how ugly are characters from Dreams. Like, I dunno, somebody took characters from The Neverhood and modeled them into 3D objects with zero interest to make them look at least... bad? It's just.. "their" style, similar to Pax Corpus. And I hate it.
How are you playing the games for these videos? Are you emulating them or playing on actual hardware with a modded ps1?
Emulation for convience. Mixture of Duckstation & Mednafen with no enhancements.

Fair enough, Dreams is worse than Bubsy and Barbie. No combat strategy (spam), no platforming strategy (fly), horrible graphics and controls, repeating poorly designed levels. I can't find a single positive thing to say after this review.

One kind of looks like the PS1 game Apocalypse made by Neversoft before THPS. I remember enjoying that game and nobody really talks about it.
