YAY! Another volume of Obcure & Forgotten PS1 Games! Thank you so much for keeping making these! #1 Not bad, but yeah, the 3D isn't the best. I am currently very busy, but watch and listen to UA-cam videos when cooking, shaving or traveling. I have a spreadsheet with 30 games on each of several old video game platforms, which I intend to play when I have more free time, and in some cases as a way of practicing my Japanese. I chose the number 30 to try and limit the already sprawling list. As you can imagine, sticking to 30 for the PSX is extremely painful. My criteria for choosing a game are fairly arbitrary, but include whether it appeals to me aesthetically; whether I had a formative but unsatisfying or incomplete exposure to it as a child; whether it is the best in its series; whether it can be called unique (etc.). I discovered your channel with a full PSX list, pretty sure there was no game you could get me to add to my list (and thus dethrone an existing title). After watching all of your listed videos, you have pushed me to update it with six releases: Einhänder (deposing Final Fantasy Tactics); iS - internal section (I removed vib ribbon); Omega Boost (sorry, Rage Racer); Suzuki Bakuhatsu (over Gran Turismo 2); Kaze no NOTAM (which, as with Suzuki Bakuhatsu, I knew of, but had assumed was too limited to bother with; it won over Ehrgeiz); and Wipeout 3: Special Edition (though it only displaced Wipeout 2097).
RCde Go looks sooo good! I think back then I was always intrigued by it, but could never get my hands on. Man, what a blast this would have been. At least I played Warpath.... uh...
Oh my god! I forgot about Spider: the Video Game. I’ve played this game the whole way through and it is one of the strangest PS1 games I’ve played. Also, the faces the characters make in Block Kids made me laugh lmao Awesome video! Keep it up!
I know it's been a while since you've posted one of these - and take all the time you need, because I'm sure it's hard work - but I just wanted to say I love this series. I'm trying to build up my PS1 collection and these videos really help to shine light on games I would not have thought of, or at least the ones available here in NTSC-land. Thanks a ton for these videos, because not only are they educational, but just a lot of fun to watch. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate the kind words! I love making these videos in particular, it's just free time has been harder and harder to come by unfortunately. Next big video will be a return to the wheel tho, promise :)
ive been binge watching all your videos, very entertaining and well made, almost ("oldschool/classic") BBC quality presentation/narration if I might say... well done!
I am also terrified of wasps to the point where Metroid Prime caused me problems so sympathy there! Related bee-fear also caused me to fail constantly in panic at the cartoon bees in Spelunky, but somehow not their evil bastard counterparts in Hollow Knight
Praise the wheel! Really enjoyed the selection here, definitely some games I need to add to the list 👀 except spider because nope lol Expertly analysed as always!
just found this channel, thakn you for doing the things you do, videos like this are amazing, it's great to learn about the past of videogames that I still don't know about
If you do enjoy breakout games, try Block Kuzushi 1 and 2 on the PS1. Very polished, lots of variety and 2 has an excellent physics system to make the block breaking more skillful.
This is such an addictive series. It's also a bit depressing though; I mean, just look at how many _entire genres_ aren't being made anymore. Now, you could understand big publishers not wanting to pursue some of these things (spider-based platformers for instance? Totally understandable that your EAs and Activsions would want nothing to do with those, lol), but it really is a bit of a shame that so many indie devs are just like, "I like MEtroidvania and Dark Souls. I will rip off Metroidvaniaa nd DarK Souls" and that's the limit of their creativity. It really is sad, but it means looking back at older games is still really valuable and thanks to your delivery and writing, very entertaining! I love how you're highlighting so much fascinating stuff with your videos! Having binged this whole series over the past few days, I've got a suggestion for you I haven't seen you do yet. Funcom's (YES, the adventure game people who did the Longest Journey, and the survival crafting nonsense people who did Conan and are doing Dune) racing game, Speed Punks. I believe it's called Speed Freaks over in Europe for ya though. I will say nothing more about it, because I don't want to paint your impressions either way, but if it is not on the wheel, please add it.
Thanks for the kind words! Funnily enough waaaay back in the early days of the channel, I covered Speed Punks in a Funcom specific video. Its a little different style wise, but I dedicate a good portion of the video to that game so hopefully it should suffice :)
@@SeanSeanson Ah, dangit! lol. Well, I still have to check out your other vids beyond this series - I only just found this channel recently thanks to learning that Cryo made an Ubik game (yes, I know. That is a very odd way to discover a gaming UA-camr, lol), and you being one of the only ones to cover it. After watching that video, I understand why, 😄 I really thought I had a good one for the series with Speed Freaks, but it's awesome to know you covered it already! Now that I have time off from work and can catch up on YT vids, I can go watch it. Thanks for the reply/info!
Just recently discovered you and I'm really enjoying your obscure PS1 games series so far. Just wondering, does your list include 'C-12: Final Resistance' and 'Hogs of War'? These are two games that I had during my childhood, and I remember them being decent, but no one seems to be talking about them nowadays.
Found your channel by accident a couple of days ago. Your channel is just amazing! Very interesting stories, a lot of interesting games and an amazing presentation. I subscribe, press the bell and watch all the videos posted.
Warpath reminds me alot of a Wii game my cousins had called Battle of Giants: Dinosaurs Strike. I remember it being really fun and you also get to customized your dino to have different parts so you could like optimize it for battling
Seems like you’re new here. I’ll help you out with this. You need to comment on the video called Channel Update 1 to submit to the wheel. I would recommend you listen to the rules of submitting games yourself, but the basics are you can only suggest two game, and only one of the two types. One obscure game, and one Japan exclusive, so you’re gonna have to consider what you want to submit carefully. Good luck traveler!!!
And Geograph Seal pre-dates Jumping Flash, but neither is designed around platforming in the third person. Same genre, but two very different design philosophies if you get me?
Shoutout to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R for being the only fighting game released this year to feature a dinosaur(named after a David Bowie album)!
Sean I've been loving your channel Sir. Finally someone who loves the ps1 as much as me :) Thanks for all the great content and I'll be on the lookout for any vids you put up. take care my friend. P.S sharing your vids on Twitter, more eyes right :) take it easy.
Phenomenal content, fam! Dont know whether this question was already asked, but I must: what's your background and jingle music source? You're making them by your own?
Thank you friend! All the music is a mixture of Royalty free background tunes and video game music. There's some great royalty free stuff out there in the UA-cam audio library and beyond if you take the time to search it out :)
@@SeanSeanson Tbh I only remember playing the demo ;D But for some reason it stuck with me - gave off the strangest vibes! It was the graphics in Ubic which sparked my memory, and when I actually found the title after googling "PS1 Strange Yellow Jumpsuit" I was too psyched not to drop it here. A few hours later, out of nowhere, I also remembered Tai Fu... which might have been a kinder pick, when I think about it :d But I'm sure it'll pop up as well, eventually :D
Great video, i never played blockids but played many other games like it over the years. I suppose once you have played one, you have played them all, kinda like the ISS/PES & Fifa games like I always say. Warpath Jurassic park looks interesting, I really like the visuals on it, very cool, played RC de Go a while back & really enjoyed it, lots of fun but I agree is quite difficult later on. As for spider I remember 1st playing that on a demo disc and thought it was cool yet unusual but that's why I love the PS1 for the experimental games it offered. You really don't see level of experimentation anymore with games! As always, epic video & will look forward to the next one.
It's the constant experimentation that makes it so fun to explore, even when things don't go to plan it's always a treat too see how devs approached things in the early days of 3D.
Recently discovered your channel and have been enjoying it greatly. Here are my suggestions for the wheel: Obscure: Jade Cocoon Japan only: Tiny Bullets
I have Yakuza 0 to thank for getting me into the culture of Game 3. I know that Europe and the US like their automobiles, but I feel like 80's Japan was on another level of loving their automobiles. The RC hobby went very hard at that time and it's a neat little cultural microcosm of Japan. I'm sure there were big RC enthusiasts in other places but there is something fascinating and special about the 80's Japanese Jazz Fusion music playing alongside the RC hobby, much like Initial D would come to marry the Eurobeat genre, it is a match made in heaven. I'd also like to talk about your reasonable complaint of "Few tracks and unlocking everything quickly." So I don't disagree with you that it's off-putting but in the game's defense I think a lot of the replayability for people into this hobby isn't going to simply be completing and winning the games, or meeting all the challenges, but they will be experimenting with parts and techniques until to get better and get their times lower in time trials or something similar. It's still a fair critique to say it goes by fast, but I think they were banking on most people playing this being obsessed hobbyists (also children) who would be easily entertained by self imposed challenges and what little is to offer to you or I would to them be a playground of possibilities.
I just skimmed through most of your obscure PS1 games and there are a ton I haven't heard of. I haven't heard of this Jurassic Park game that was a Primal Rage clone--Awesome. Some other obscure ps1 games are c-12: Final Resistance (it's like Syphon Filter with aliens), Tai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger, MDK (bizzaro 3rd person shooter), Wild 9. Edit: Just saw you had a video about Wild 9. Another game is Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas
Thanks for checking out the videos! If you wanted to add one to above to the viewer wheel under you name which would you like? Tai-Fu and MDK have yet to be picked 👀
If you like twin-stick shooters in the style of Contra, you should check out Expendable aka Millennium Soldier: Expendable aka Seitai Heiki Expendable. Power ups, chaos, explosions, intense gameplay, and awesome music. It has all the good stuff. There is a PC port but it's not great in terms of controls. There are fixes tho. Another one that might be worth looking into it is Future Cop: LAPD - an arcade isometric sci-fi shooter where you pilot a vehicle that can transform between a hovering police car or a mech, both with pros and cons.
To me mostly an unremarkable selection, but still kind of neat. Spider definitely the best one here. And again so close to my choice… that’s just my luck!
Took me a while to get to this one. I was busy with some game playing, including my seventh and most likely last playthrough of 'Bubsy 3D'. I've pretty much seen everything that game has to offer (even writing my thoughts down in a note pad).
Lot of variety in this new episode ! - BlockKids: Always loved the immediate fun of the arcade gameplay of breakouts game, but nearly all those games failed to maintain fun at long terms with repetitive gameplay. BlockKids at least tried something new, that seems insufficient, but hey I want to try this game. - Warpath Jurassic Park: Not a huge fan of fightinf games, but you convinced me to look after this game. Graphics looks really great and gameplay very arcady. Not a must have for me, but an interesting curiosity. Also, the first Jurassic Park movie is a masterpiece, the others are...let's say not interesting at all - RC de GO: Know this game just by name, but never played it. Actually looks pretty fun. A really good RC game is Buggy, with great gameplay ideas and a huge challenge, in 100% arcade style with power-ups Re-Volt, however I really didn't like it: it's just unplayable - Spider: I HATE Pandemonium for the reasons you mentionned in the video, but always been interested on playing Spider, I never associated it with Pandemonium gameplay style. Hope I'll get soon a copy of this game. Thanks for this video, hope see you soon for Japan Only video ! Take care
In blockids the meter on the left is dependent on your character. For some characters it will make the paddle bigger, make your balls stick to the paddle, or make your balls go through and destroy blocks. In the video you only mentioned the paddle getting bigger because you only played as the mermaid.
This Channel needs more views, this is top quality content! Love all your videos..but the pandemonium 2 One Is the best! Can u do some net yaroze retrospectives? Like the review of euro demo 42..keep It up..a big fan from Italy..
So many nice memories. I remember playing a demo of Spider. 😅 I have some suggestions for the wheel: BLAM! Machinehead Rapid Racer Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 (NTSC only) Shadow Master Tunnel B1 Username is Mancubus 😅
I want to add power shovel (from the DE GO! series) to the wheel! It's a PAL/JAP exclusive and it had its own controller (Like most of the series) pretty interesting game if you ask me!
You deserve way more views than you're getting, Sean. Have you considered breaking your videos down to individual games to allow you to upload more frequently? Prevailng wisdom is that the algorithm favours channels that upload regularly. Also, bigger, more readable text in your thumbnails. It sucks to have to play the algorithm game, but mate, you're producing great videos and almost nobody is seeing them because of the way youtube recommendations (and human brains) work.
Thank you friend! It may sound idiotic, but I'm somewhat determined to succeed on my own terms. I want to create videos that appeal to my own tastes first and foremost, as a fan of video games and online video game content. It won't make my path an easy one, but it will at the very least mean its my own path and not one dictated by an algorithm. Still appreciate the advice all the same, very useful for people who aren't stubborn fools like myself :)
Would be pretty weird if a game from 1996 predicted the PS2, but then again some random game from 1999 or 2000 (which I forget the name of) predicted 9/11, and WipEout predicted brexit sooo….
The fact that 12 volumes in and even while I have this on in the background, I still stop what I'm doing to chant along with "The Wheel Will Provide"

RCde Go looks sooo good! I think back then I was always intrigued by it, but could never get my hands on. Man, what a blast this would have been. At least I played Warpath.... uh...
You’re spoiling us, Sean-that Psygnosis video was only a couple weeks ago! Thanks for another great one ✌🏻
RC De Go! Is the best looking racing game on the PS1. It's so good
Oh my god! I forgot about Spider: the Video Game. I’ve played this game the whole way through and it is one of the strangest PS1 games I’ve played. Also, the faces the characters make in Block Kids made me laugh lmao
Awesome video! Keep it up!
The Wheel do be providing! Great as always Sean
Millennium Solider: Expendable
This channel quickly became one of my favourites, thanks for all the content Sean 👍
Oh nice pick!
Got at the added for you now :)
ive been binge watching all your videos, very entertaining and well made, almost ("oldschool/classic") BBC quality presentation/narration if I might say... well done!
I am also terrified of wasps to the point where Metroid Prime caused me problems so sympathy there! Related bee-fear also caused me to fail constantly in panic at the cartoon bees in Spelunky, but somehow not their evil bastard counterparts in Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight makes even the most terrifying creatures a lil adorable.
Went up as soon as I finished your DC PS1 video. Oh hell yeah
Warpath is kinda jank but cool too. Featured the spino & gigasaurus before the movies did
Praise the wheel!
Really enjoyed the selection here, definitely some games I need to add to the list 👀 except spider because nope lol
Expertly analysed as always!
UA-cam recommended me your channel and I'm loving your videos.
just found this channel, thakn you for doing the things you do, videos like this are amazing, it's great to learn about the past of videogames that I still don't know about
Usually dont interact with videos very much outside of watching them but have been binging your videos a lot because im sick and theyre really good
really excited to see a new episode, i'm saving it for tonight 😊 thank you so much
If you do enjoy breakout games, try Block Kuzushi 1 and 2 on the PS1. Very polished, lots of variety and 2 has an excellent physics system to make the block breaking more skillful.
Spider was such an unusual experience. Decided to play it as a kid and would get scared or frustrated at the difficulty every time 😅
34:56 Essentially the William Birkin assassination scene from RE2, a year before RE2 was released!
After watching that video, I understand why, 😄
I really thought I had a good one for the series with Speed Freaks, but it's awesome to know you covered it already!
Thank you, glad you found me!
You can rest assured theyre both in the regular and fan pool of games, so its not a case of if they show up, but when.
Man, I used to play Block Kids a ton when I was a kid. Great video!
@@wieldylattice3015 Thanks for the info!
"Prior to Super Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot" now hold on here, Jumping Flash predates both of those by some time
And Geograph Seal pre-dates Jumping Flash, but neither is designed around platforming in the third person. Same genre, but two very different design philosophies if you get me?
Shoutout to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R for being the only fighting game released this year to feature a dinosaur(named after a David Bowie album)!
Kim Justice sent me here, correctly. What a channel!
Glad you found me! Bless Kim 🙏
Very cool editing
Sean I've been loving your channel Sir. Finally someone who loves the ps1 as much as me :) Thanks for all the great content and I'll be on the lookout for any vids you put up. take care my friend. P.S sharing your vids on Twitter, more eyes right :) take it easy.
Appreciate it friend :)
your videos are wonderful and underappreciated!
I'd like to add 'Time Commando', if it's not in there yet.
Can't get enough of this content, btw, it's fantastic! May the wheel provide!
Thank you!
and i'm surprised it took somebody this long to pick time commando. I've got that added now, but god help me if it ever comes up :)
@@SeanSeanson I agree 100%, its those unusual ideas & quirks that leave a lasting impression that you simply wouldn't get anywhere else.
This dude needs more views and subscribers
Recently discovered your channel and have been enjoying it greatly.
Here are my suggestions for the wheel:
Obscure: Jade Cocoon
Japan only: Tiny Bullets
Great to hear!
Got those added for you now :)
Someone other than me acknowledges Vin Diesels Wheelman… Im complete
@@SeanSeanson I'll pick MDK because it's the most 90s 3rd person shooter ever.
@@contrabandresearch8409 nice, I'll add it for you now!
@@SeanSeanson Thank you!
Another cracking video. Pity we never got a Spider 2 that followed Pandemonium 2 down the rabbit hole.
1000% down for a psychedelic Spider 2
@@SeanSeanson I'm back to add Dragon Valor and Hard Edge to the viewer wheel.
Blockids and RC de Go! will both work with the neGcon and the Jogcon (in neGcon mode) controllers for some unique and fun control methods.
Oh damn, that sounds awesome.
I honestly thought that Jurassic Park game was going to be poor, but colour me intrigued when it played well!
Akuji: The Heartless
The test for Soul Reaver, ps1 exclusive!
Nice pick!
Got that added for you :)
Also, the first Jurassic Park movie is a masterpiece, the others are...let's say not interesting at all
- RC de GO: Know this game just by name, but never played it. Actually looks pretty fun. A really good RC game is Buggy, with great gameplay ideas and a huge challenge, in 100% arcade style with power-ups Re-Volt, however I really didn't like it: it's just unplayable
- Spider: I HATE Pandemonium for the reasons you mentionned in the video, but always been interested on playing Spider, I never associated it with Pandemonium gameplay style. Hope I'll get soon a copy of this game.
Thanks for this video, hope see you soon for Japan Only video ! Take care
If it's not already on the list, I'd love to see Jade Cocoon on there. :)
Nice pick, I'll get it added for you now! Thanks for watching :)
In blockids the meter on the left is dependent on your character. For some characters it will make the paddle bigger, make your balls stick to the paddle, or make your balls go through and destroy blocks. In the video you only mentioned the paddle getting bigger because you only played as the mermaid.
Ah my apologies. Don't think adjustments to special metre would have persuaded me into playing through adventure mode again either way.
@@SeanSeanson agreed, blockids is mediocre at best. Just thought id add. Love your vids btw.
@@tylermcdorman4199 appreciate the info friend! Thanks for watching :)
Oh boy those opening fmv's!
This Channel needs more views, this is top quality content! Love all your videos..but the pandemonium 2 One Is the best! Can u do some net yaroze retrospectives? Like the review of euro demo 42..keep It up..a big fan from Italy..
Thank you! Will likely cover some Net Yeroze stuff down the line, its too cool not too!
More Sean! Now that's what I'm talkin' about, (sean)son!
(i'm sorry 😆)
I just picked up Spider, unique game for the system. Found it at a old comic shop
So many nice memories. I remember playing a demo of Spider. 😅
I have some suggestions for the wheel:
BLAM! Machinehead
Rapid Racer
Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 (NTSC only)
Shadow Master
Tunnel B1
Username is Mancubus 😅
Oh nice picks!
I aim keep to keep it at one pick per person though, so if you wanted to pick one from the above which would you like to see most?
Spider bugged me abit because in cutscenes you are a b albopilosum but a b hamorii in gameplay
Appreciate the legit Spider knowledge
I'm just after leaving a comment on the first part of this series not realising it was not a recent upload haha give it a look
DINOSAURS AND WEAPONISED SPIDERS!! WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!
My viewer list contribution: Trash It!
Love your channel ❤️
Thank you
@Raine Pultz thank you for triggering everyone’s arachnophobia my g XD
I want to add power shovel (from the DE GO! series) to the wheel! It's a PAL/JAP exclusive and it had its own controller (Like most of the series) pretty interesting game if you ask me!
Nice pick! Added for you now :)
World is literally ending: I sleep
*A POOL OF WATER: Real shit*
All Worship the Wheel.....
36:58 Is that a... PS2??
I think it is an SGI workstation computer, the kind of machine a 90's video game dev would have been using to create the 3D graphics for the game.
Would be pretty weird if a game from 1996 predicted the PS2, but then again some random game from 1999 or 2000 (which I forget the name of) predicted 9/11, and WipEout predicted brexit sooo….
Seven years to release in the west. YEESH
I want to submit 'starwinder' for the wheel please ✌️ really enjoyed this video
Starwinder? Oh no...
Ooh heeey... I like both light and heavy head..
Giggity
