Metallica became a band in 81 and this song came out in 97. They've been together for 40 years. Insane.
'97 was when I saw them in concert. Craziest thing about the show? I just looked up the setlist for a refresher and I see that the tickets were 38 bucks. Those were the days.

Those are two of my favorites from that era of Metallica, aka “The Load Era.”
Load and Re-Load are the two albums they released in the 90’s that were Hard Rock. Many of their Metal fans were pissed, starting with their more commercial sounding self titled album or aka “black album” that came before the Load albums.
True Metallica fans know the Load era was still fire.

Many old school Metallica fans didn’t like the Load and Reload albums from the mid 90’s because they had a bluesier and greasier sound. But I dug it. Love your reactions.

When this song first came out, my buddy was convinced the lyrics were “Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme double homicide”.
This song live is completely nuts. When I saw them play this they had like 50 foot high fireballs erupting from the stage and the roof of the stage (outdoor stadium show). Like 10 of them all at once and it was hot as Hell. Every time you felt it no matter where you were. I was in the middle two sections up from the ground/floor level and it felt like I was a foot away from a bon fire.
I saw them live at Giants Stadium in the nose bleeds and you could still feel the heat perfectly!
It is fun watching Lex's reaction with heavy rock, particularly Metallica.
She makes me get into it even more than I already do.

That is a definition of a 'Banger' and has kicked my butt ever since it was released. Try their Wherever I May Roam, from the Black Album, 30 million official copies sold and counting and for good reason, it changed the course of music and made metal cool for everyone. Rock On! 🎸

Personally I hold The black album as my 2nd least favorite by them , St anger is possibly one of the worst albums ever.
This is late 90's Metallica. This song was on ReLoad, which was released in 1997. Also, the lyrics in the video are wrong, it is "Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!" not "double which I desire". My favorite song from this particular era of Metallica is "King Nothing"!

Great song, singer James Hetfield is a gear head, loves working on old cars. Close your eyes and you can see yourself flying down the road about 120mph!
This song was on Hot Wheels Turbo Racing in 1999 and was my introduction to Metallica as a 4 year old kid! Brings back good memories!!

This is awesome in shows, every "Fuel" he sings is a jet of fire going out of the stage.
This was mid-late 90s. 1997 (single dropped in '98). It's the first track on ReLoad, but the 3rd single. The first single was "The Memory Remains", followed by "Unforgiven II", this one, and finally "Better Than You". I love both Load and ReLoad. I used to listen to the entire Load album on repeat when it came out. It really bummed me out that a substantial chunk of Metallica fans hated these albums. I think people have warmed up to them more over time though. "Low Man's Lyric" on ReLoad is an amazing song (but definitely not Metal... it's kind of a soft rock ballad in the same vein as "Nothing Else Matters" but musically and lyrically more dynamic).
If you take all the best songs from Load and Re-Load you'll get one decent album. But c'mon Ronnie? Fixxxer? That shitty toy soldiers song? There are some real stinkers in there.
But agreed that Low Man's Lyric is fantastic.

I already agreed with you about Low Man's Lyric, and I think Mama Said is a very good song.
I got sucked into grunge in the early 90s so the last Metallica album i bought was the black album and every song I hear off the other albums is just foreign to me.....and when i think of their bassist, i immediately think of Jason or Cliff.....even though Roberts been the bassist for thirty years!
@@Metallikyle Okay. If I were to say which songs are filler, it would be more the middle of ReLoad (Slither, Carpe Diem Baby, Where the Wild Things Are), not the end. But even their "filler" songs are good. Personally, the album I can't stand is Kill 'em All. That album is actually trash (in part thanks to the god-awful mix, but also because James couldn't sing for shit yet). But as I said, to each his own man. Glad you like Low Man's Lyric and Mama Said at least.

Outlaw torn live Manheim Germany 2019 is a masterpiece you both will love it.
I love how Lars patterned the drums during the chorus to sound like a hot rod engine idling, like stopped at the red light, waiting for the driver to hit first gear and burn out.
Definitely loved this growing up flying down the interstate and still gets me fired up now.

Saw Metallica twice last October at aftershock. Going to Vegas February to see them again.
Definitely one of their mainstream known songs, but in no way a bad thing.
You should listen/watch the S&M Concert in its entirety. Even if off camera strictly for the experience, but it would make good reactions if you split it up or even live cast it (but i hope i catch the cast)

S&M is one of my favorite albums of all time! This needs likes because everyone needs to hear S&M versions if not the whole album through in one sitting.
This was the album that they really "changed" They definitely went more mainstream....still heavy though. They cut their hair and they all got cleaned up, think it was mostly drinking they had issue's with....more so than drugs, but I could be wrong. People say the Black album was when they first "changed", and then this album was their next "change"
Bester in their younger days 80's. I saw them on the Monsters of Rock tour in 88'. With Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken and I couple other bands at Mile High Stadium. Memory was foggy the next day. And that was long ago. :D I do remember taking twins in a limo. :D

This is the Laod/ Reload/ Garage Days revisited era of Metallica. Some very good gems in this era. Check out Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn, and Fixxxer for starters. The mid to late 90’s they got less thrashy and more bluesy.

The moment she left for her schooling, Metallica blasted on, now I didn't know who they were, probably heard a few of their tracks before, but this track was a formal introduction
James screaming about clean fuel and fast cars, Lars beating a drumkit like it owed him money, Jason looking like a blasted a protein fart and didn't care how toxic it was, Kirk, the first black guy I've seen actually play an instrument and not handle the mic

It was heavy
It wasn't like anything I had the privilege to hear
I was instantly hooked

I think Lex nailed it about Metallica. They aren't any harder or faster or louder than other hard rockers but it's done so well. It's clean, focused, smooth and everything works perfect together.

And yes I somewhat agree with the "still maturing" comment...
It's their next 2 albums that they hit their prime - "Master Of Puppets" - '86.... I even think they scored the best Metal album of all time with "... And Justice For All" - '88... where they flex soooo hard on what they are capable of doing, the whole album is a MAJOR TEASE. And likely was that way because they wanted to push Jason Newsted to the breaking point (hence why the bass volume was almost cut from the album).

This was late 90s when alternative rock and alternative metal were popular. Metallica tried to adapt their sound to what was “in”. Which ironic because when they started they were trying to rebel against popular music. Their two albums during the late 90s were not their most popular but Fuel was the next song from that era
Great 'Tallica track!! You should listen to the S&M version! (Metallica - Fuel S&M). They recorded a live album back in '99 with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and it was absolutely amazing!! The best tracks on the S&M album are The Call of Ktulu, Master of Puppets, Of Wold and Man, Fuel, Hero of the Day, Nothing Else Matters, One and Battery!! Thanks for sharing your reaction, guys!
