What's your favourite David Nalbandian memory (if it's the Queen's final moment, you're wrong... 😒)?
Almost defeating prime Nadal in IW 2012, while being injured.
@Lukas Bergqvist Yeah but both of them were injured then.
@@masters.1000 Nadal was, but Federer wasn't. He was at 100%
Nalbandian defeated Murray at Paris 2008 QF
@@tennisgenius4850 ¿In MC 2005?
Federer was coming back from an injury in his ankle, and Nalbandian had an abdominal tear (like always, he was a fatass).
I've watched tennis for 40+ years, and I still think Nalbandian is the best player I've ever seen seen. No, he didn't have the consistency. No, he didn't have the full commitment. No, he never truly wanted it. But when he was on, he was on. He could make Rafa, Roger and Novak look almost pedestrian at times. Turn their offense into double-offense right back at them. Hit from anywhere in the court. Find and create outrageous angles and control. At his very best move them around like pawns. Utterly sublime.
Agree with you
He was a legend. He totally wasted his talent. Argentina has had great players but terrible things had happen.
ua-cam.com/video/pE4d4J0gvzk/v-deo.html
@@jasonlewis460 He prioritized living his life over being a collector of titles and statistics, he didn't waste anything, respect.
@Wake Wood Before Daniil Medvedev in tactical play, there was David Nalbandian. The major difference between the two, is that Medvedev has a much, much better serve, and also is much, much more physically fit. And the result? A Slam win for Medvedev (and most likely, many more to come). For many years, Nalbandian had the best brain in tennis (hands down). Small wonder, that he's a coach now (working with Miomir Kecmanovic, who had good results: 4th RD in this year's AO). And one of his biggest focuses with Miomir? Physical fitness :)
Im from argentina,, and david always said that he was not all day thinking about tennis but talent was always there. He was a great player and huge inspiration.
He is from a rural area in Buenos Aires and started playing in a hard tennis court his family built.
He really started with nothing and was a world top player.
Nalbandian played the most attractive tennis I have ever watched. The statistics shows clearly he was not among the best players of the history. But if it existed a ranking of creativity, skill and beauty in the game, he would be my number one.
Now THIS is the content we need.
The most talented guy in this century, even more than Federer, Safin and Rios. Never trained like he should, went to some matches hungover, he was almost always overweight, and so on. Despite all of that he became N3 and won two M1000 and one Masters Cup, and made it to the semifinals in all Grand Slams, all of this by playing only with talent alone.
The best backhand ever.
One of the few who fooled Federer at will on the court.
The best backhand ever in term of consistency belongs to Agassi & Djokovic but i agree on the other things you wrote.
@@suatkayatennis Yeah, I meant by pure technique and precision.
@@masters.1000 On that department he and Agassi are above all players.
@@masters.1000 when did he fool him?
Most talented player ever without a doubt. He just didn’t care.
Nalbandian was a superb talent one of the cleanest ball strikers ever!
"He's just toying with Nadal..."
How often do you hear a broadcast comment like that? Ever?
yes, but what is this good for??? absolutely nothing¡¡¡
Nalbandian had by far the most beautiful shots in tennis history!
Among the best shotmakers in tennis history, and my second favorite player after Federer. Such a shame that he never put in as much effort later in his career, he was delightful to watch. Despite how good tennis is today, I think we are missing shotmakers like him.
Nalbandian's style is amazing: so much flair, so effective; his preparation and strokes almost always composed and unruffled--as if he were playing inside some sort of weird individual gravity-time warp field...while his adversaries dash and lunge about frantically.
Nailed it... Genius comment!
True 😂
I still tell all my students to watch David's BH these days, so natural and smooth. He was even a bit more pleasurable to watch than Roger when he's on his game
John McEnroe was interviewed recently and said, ‘I use to criticize this player because I didn’t feel he gave the effort a professional should. He was very talented. His name is David Nalbandian.’ That sort of sums it up.
I think the only good thing about the current situation is that we get to see so many tennis videos which otherwise we would never have seen.
Federer's head-to-heads at fast courts during his peak (2003-2008):
6-2 Nadal
10-1 Blake
19-2 Davydenko
17-0 D.Ferrer
12-1 Gonzalez
21-3 Roddick
7-2 Novak Djokovic
8-3 Agassi

If I'm not wrong isn't he the only player to beat Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in a single tournament?
You are not wrong! And you can watch that feat here... ua-cam.com/video/nWkXdaUNSx0/v-deo.html
Tennis TV thank you!
David Nalbandian he is such a legend in the tennis he is the only player that beats the great 3 in the same tournament
@@nirs635
He's the only one to do that but we have to consider that Djokovic and Nadal weren't at their best in 2007 cuz they were only 20-21 especially Nadal on Hard even if they were probably already Top 3.
And the opportunity to face every members of the Big 3 in one tournament is very low due to the fact that if Djokovic lost a round or Nadal or Federer, Nalbandian wouldn't have face them etc.
However, this is still awesome he made it, he was an awesome player, the greatest backhand to me and one of the smartest player on the Tour.
Tsonga in Toronto 2014 did beat 4 members of Top 10 : Federer Djokovic Murray and Dimitrov, i'm maybe more amazed by Tsonga in this case cuz Djokovic was good at the time, Dimitrov too, Murray also and Federer was okay i guess cuz he made it to the Final in that tournament then he had back issues at Davis Cup (idk if it was after Toronto or before).
@@ijump-bounce2283 Federer also beat the rest of the big 4 in one tournament: World Tour Finals 2010. Federer beat Murray in RR, Djokovic in the semis and Nadal in the final.
One of the most strategic and technnical players. I would love to see him playing against Wawrinka
I think he has not a good h2h against Stan
Nalbandian won vs stan, twice , one in Washington 2010, the other cant remember

Best backhand ever. Was a bit short unfortunately to get those free points needed now and then.
lange darm lol, wawrink can’t do much on a faster tennis court with his backhand
@lange darm
It destroys players that doesn't attack that much or give him time to prepare his backhand.
Which is the reason he's doing well against Djokovic since a few years now cuz he improved his backands and Djokovic doesn't set a pressure as Federee does.
Federer doesn't allow Wawrinka to play his game.
So yeah, on a faster court, Wawrinka struggle more but his backhand is awesome though, powerful and technical.
2:26 "Well, he is almost toying with Nadal"....Well, that was really what was happening...
One of the best shot makers of all time.
And he used an ultra heavy racket to get that impressive accurate power on his shots at 370 ish grams ..
You have a feeling that Nalbandian in top form could just hit from any place on the court to any place on the court. He was such an accurate sniper.
True legend the only tennis player who has beaten the big 3 in the same tournament what a legend 🐐
I missed lots of great matches due to responsabilities and working commitments but I allways made myself a little time to watch this guy...really a magician; such an effortless player...amazing
Of only he won a few grand slams!
Always a delight to watch his highlights. A smart and technically sound game!
Greatest waste of talent, still pulled of one of the greatest feats of tennis. Always a treat to watch
I can't say that he is the Best player in history... But suppose that we can organize a tournament with all players in history... In that case, I would bet for David
Why waste of talent? Qué pasó?
It's not a "waste". He played because he wanted to and as much as it gave him fun. You have to respect his decision and his right to do (or not to do) whatever he wants to. You cannot blame him for "wasting talent" because this way of life was what has been making him happy - and being happy means winning the life.
@@stonedrui7112 thats called a waste of talent. Ungrateful player with so much talent is a insult to the creator of time.
How was it a waste of talent. Its not Kyrgios we’re talk in’ about. 😂
Would've loved see him playing 2006 AO finals against Fed, but his choke against Baghdatis keeps hurting me.
Yup, still hurts 😭
One of the best talents in the history of the game, I know he doesn't have the tournament wins to be in the ladder of greats but talent alone hes one of the best for sure.
At moments, he made Federer look average.
Nadal: 'I'm strong and very fit.'
Nalbadian: 'Ok.'
I watch this video again every 6 months just to marvel at the shot quality (again)
the most dominant player and greatest striker ive seen.
My all-time favorite player
I often watch Nalbandian's matches and I can't stop thinking that discipline must be a talent itself. You have or you dont... At least, that helps me to sleep better after this.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis talents ever to not win a grand slam..
Just a joy to watch the man in full flight. A rare tennis talent with exceptional control of the ball.
The only man who can beat prime federer, nadal & djocovic
Man was crazy and has the most powerful backhand.
Often credited as the "greatest player to never win a slam," Nalbandian was an exellent all-court player and is known as one of the cleanest ball strikers in the sport. He uses powerfully struck, sharply accurate groundstrokes which have very low error-percentage. He has a decent, but not particularly dominating service game compared to top 20 players, unfortanatly he lacked of disciplin, consistency and was plaiged with injuries thru his carrier.
Yeah, if anything his service game was the weakest.
0:43 that shot by Rafa was so skillful and genius though, But Nalbandian was in God Mode then
9:55
Arguably the best player never to win a slam
Nalbandian seems to be a very smart guy. Always kept his cool in situations when others are sweating bullets. Intelligent shotmaking.
How have you not seen the clip of him kicking in the linesman's damn shin vs Cilic?!
@@raaghavvarma2726 I always felt bad for him about that, there's no way he knew the board he kicked wasn't solidly fastened down :/
"cool in situations" lol. I think you didnt follow his career close enough.
Now this is real talent
A wizard with his wand in the battlefield.
Davydenko, nalbandian, freakin Mardy Fish. Such good happy memories of this time.

David handled the most incredible angles with the two-handed backhand

That Madrid week was David at his very best, He defeat Nadal, Djokovic and Federer. World class player King David.
Meu tenista favorito david nalbandian.....
Wow, I didn't remember how good his backhand lob specifically was. Could give Murray's a run for his money. Nalbandian had such amazing variety on his backhand. Paire might be one of the few current players that come to mind thats able to approach that variety of 2 handed backhands.
I really miss him, he was so exquisite. Del Potro has great power in his groundstrokes, but Nalbandian was the an allaround player, and the best of all. It's a shame he was such a ladiesman and he only took Tennis like his job in a regular basis, and was not something that he really enjoyed.
Look at the pauses he takes just before taking the shot. The dude is playing chess, knowing that not speed nor stamina are gonna help him in any way. He's doing IQ-based tennis. And on top of that, the smoothness and coolness of 80's Stallone. Fucking genious.
Simplemente, Genio....

How many would kill for such natural talents, and use it and improve on it with focus and dedication? Life, or whichever deity controls, has a sick sense of humor to give such talents to those who don’t want it.
Nalbandian and Safin, two greatest two-handed backhand players in Tennis history! They dont produce player like this anymore...

That second rally is one of my alltime favorites.
Nalbandian's best version is not far from the Big 3 best versions. His talent was unreal, he could make you look like an amateur effortlessly. He just wasn't devoted to the sport.
best double hand bakchand ever
Cuanto talento!
The one-handed players always tout Henin and Federer as great to watch. As a two-hander, I think Nalby and Martina Hingis are the equivalent of them in terms of shotmaking virtuosos.
I think no. Agassi has a much better backhand if you consider only the aesthetic side.
1 of my favorite players!!!
Increible jugador. Orgullo argentino.

Let's not forget that he reached his first Grand Slam final (2002 Wimbledon) at the tender age of 20.
And lost only to peak level Hewitt, who was a freaking wall in that time. Impossible to beat.
Que crack que era!
Brilliant...... is that the only word the brit commentators know?
Would have loved to see some points on the grass... that's missing in this compilation.

@Mzee1084 Jim Courier is actually very, very underrated in the tactics dept., but in that match w/David, Nalbandian showed hints with his racket, of what was to come in the years ahead.
0:35 it is a big deal to make that kind of shot against Nadal
