Budget C10 Rat Rod Build | Part 1 - Vice Grip Garage EP42
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 жов 2019
- It's time to take this awesome 1965 Chevy C10 pickup and transform it into a street-worthy rat rod looking truck for as little money as possible! The patina on this truck is amazing, and honestly, it's too far gone to do a full restoration, so a guy figures he can have a little fun with it. We'll work through lowering it, seats, brakes, a little engine work, and of course a proper test. This will be a 3 part mini-series, so be sure to subscribe!

100% sitting here at work with a meatloaf sammich in one hand, a pop in the other just watching older VGG episodes over again. Perfect.
POP?? there is pop!! it is coke!!
Can’t beat a meatloaf sammich and a cold pop
Gotta love reruns. Wether it the VGG or the meatloaf. 👍🏼
Same only mine is a rib sandwich from the work cafeteria. Just bought a 68 C10 and about to attempt to drive her home vgg style this Monday 🤘
@@MrDeano-bm8qgdid you make it?
"If any of you guy got good one of these laying around, I'll trade you some bad sawzall blades for 'hem" I like that kind of humor!! Nice camera angles and great overall quality seriously hell of a show you put down here. You rock man!
Thank you!!
I love how simple the old vehicles are!
My husband loves watching you, he sets for hours laughing his ass off, you are a great funny man. I thank you for making my husbands day after a hard day at a factory job. Keep doing what you do.
Ma’am that’s “fac-tree”.

I enjoy watching Your videos, A feller is getting motivated to work on his Long term project. Interest was waning but you have motivated a Feller! Thankyou!
I'm digging the air guitar/vacuum solo!!!
Amen ! Rock On Derek !
YUP! Had to rewind and watch that a few times. HILARIOUS!
PBR! I knew there was reason I was liking this show! I never could put my finger on it till now. Cheers 🍻 from Ohio!
A true Minnesotan! Crack the last hidden PBR while working on the old Chevy! Can’t remember the last time I had a PBR. Probably about the same time I had an Old Milwaukee, which was sometime in the 70’s. SKOL!
I'm loving the zip ties and bias plies poster in the background
andrez lopez I’m missing the videos
andrez lopez .. I noticed that too 👍

@@ViceGripGarage I bet both the fuel sender and the starter could have been repaired if you had gone into them.
Love watching this show best I've seen!! BTW I live in Wyoming and we require at least a bucket or lawn chair to sit on😂
My Brother Randy was a huge fan of the show.. He passed away last week right after watching one of the episodes.. I do know he was happy and laughing to the very end.. Thank You for bringing a smile to his face.. It means a lot to me..
.......You guys could make a video of Sunday dinner.....and we'd love it....But I do enjoy a good resurrection video. The concept of walking up to a car that's been sitting for ages ....starting it on site with just a few juices, tools and parts ...and then driving it any distance home, is your hook. This activity addresses the fears of the no so mechanically inclined...like me...who watch in amazement. The white caddy video is where I found you...and it sunk the hook in me. When you announced your plan...I said "no way" out loud.....then you drove that thing home...unbelievable.
love the definition of how the fuel tank gage works/ how to test it/ what goes bad. :)
Sounds like a comfortably loose, happy engine. Like a feller movin roun in old jeans.
haha.. great way of puttin it
LMAO.
Sounds fresh off the show room floor. Throw in floor mats. And dealer prep. Sold!
Derek I absolutely love your channel and all of your sayings you keep it educational and comical at the same time. I'm in the process of watching all of your stuff while drinking wobbly pops. If you have any extra LS parts send it to me. I'm in the process of rebuilding my on LS for chevy silver-rado as you say. Keep it coming and I seen you on your first MotorTrend show Roadworthy Rescues. I'm glad all of your hard work finally paid off. Your the best Derek!!!!
"maybe 2 or 3 CCR songs" Atleast we know you listen to great music! LOL Keep up the good work man, I love the channel.
If one of them is "Heard it through the grapevine" you gonna be awhile 😜👍
@@misplacedhillbilly7594 you'll have a minty fuel tank afterwards 🤷♂️🤟
I LOVE the guys humor and how calm he stays no matter what happens
Thanks buddy 😎
Your videos with the old Chevy truck hits my heart hard with memory’s of me n my dad fixing them up in the 80’s. My first truck in high school was a 60 Apache. I finally have one now a 66 old farm truck it’s bad , no title. Runs tho but it’s hard doing anything with it without money.
Thank you for your videos they help me relive my old days.
Have several wild stories I can tell you about my dad’s adventure
Glad you enjoyed thanks for watching
been really enjoying taking a trip down memory lane watching these old videos... trying to find the video with the skill saw hanging from the rafters lol
It looks like she's got just the right amount of weight reduction on her.
Transparency is way better than all that black carbon fiber... Besides that hole in the rear of the cab is a good way to toss all those empty cold snacks on a road trip...
It's all balanced out
Derek truly love watching the videos and learning more things on how to do things. I am a shade tree type mechanic and wrencher. Like to find something like this to tinker with and make motivate. Faithful Subscriber from Southeast Missouri. Keep it going.
Thanks Mark! Good luck on your hunt
These videos don't get old to just get better you learn everyday something thank you so much for the up God bless you and your family as well as your friends watching all the way from Spain peace out
Killer old chevy build every old truck like that can just pop on the highway in a few! Love them trucks got 4 silverados for a reason!
When cleaning the rust out of my project motorcycle gas tanks, I do something similar. But I use short deck screws instead of marbles. The screws get into the nooks and crannies better, are more abrasive, and can easily be removed with a magnet. I follow that with a good flush out and new fuel filter. Works great, as long as the tank doesn't have any rust-through areas.
Im from Dublin IRELAND and I wish we had old cars like the one's you get over here because I whould love to own a few🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Great show brother! You have a cool original sense of humor. Clean all American channel the whole family can enjoy.
Thanks Luis
A guy is a genius. Fixing a truck, welding, drinking PBR, and filming!!! Multitasking more than a mother with 6 kids, with diaper rash. Truly inspirational. Keep it up!! ( weaker than Payton Mannings neck )

Can't wait to see how a guy tests on that ole beast. Love the digical test-o-tronic procedures... That there is the stuff of the pros.
Bout blew a feller's ear buds out when you eased into that ol marble sloshing.
Derek's descriptions of the smell inside the shitbox vehicles are always good for a chortle!
So in true tradition, im 34,2 years late. Been busy giving her all the way.. Always a smile on my face when i see a new video! I don't know why, but I love that truck!! Actually my favorite generation Chevy trucks. As you know I had a 61 Apache!
Neil Holschbach I had one but they unfortunately rot really badly
I've been an OG subscriber since the first video. I've owned 4 69 Camaros since my first in 87 when I was 12. I've owned dozens of junks since my friend Derek! But there were quite a few shinny's in there! I still watch these old classics during the week. If you ever need anything in KCMO, hook me up. If I don't have it, I know the race shops that do. Marbles!.lol
Bought a 66 C10 for $50 in 82, ripped off the bed, made a wood bed, put a plywood TC on it and drove it for 5 years to Disney. Straight 6 was great! The people in the campground would slow down when on their walks to see it, especially when I was painting it in Rustoleum with a brush. Trailing arms finally gave out and the plywood camper began to delaminate, so I burned the camper (after taking the TC off truck of course) in the back yard. My next door neighbor was none too pleased.

Nice! Thanks for uploading on my birthday! What a decent present!
you know a feller grabs a cold snack; hits "like" and THEN clicks play when VGG uploads a new vidja
Appreciate that buddy
Same same. Love the vidgeos.
Sparkulators and lightning hoses absolutely brilliant
Got the alert on my embarrass yourself in public device - so I made sure to hustle home to watch on the digical device. Picked up a few tricks: marbles & clr for cleaning a fuel tank, for one, & using bar stock to mount seats for another. That sure looks more secure than the method I used: perforated metal strap & a few 1/2 in. bolts & nuts. I also admire the new starter camo kit...makes a new starter look worn in seconds. I can't believe I'm lerning on stuff here - you're even using a welding helmet! Bravo! You can count on my watching part 2....I'ma let everyone else speculate about those wheels & tires.
Thanks buddy!! Glad you enjoyed n such
Jessica's t rex arms 🤣🤣🤣 howd the couch sleep for a feller after she heard that?
No problem, she knows the real joke is on a guy with Sasquatch arms...

I just subscribed to your channel recently and really enjoy watching you resurrect these awesome American trucks. Your skill level is extremely impressive and I have learned a lot watching you. I hope you make a ton of money on these trucks and keep finding them so you can continue to make these videos.

@7:15 perfect intro to destruction Derek. Nice chops as well
LOL Air guitar with the vacuum cleaner hose....rock on brother!
While a guy was welding the new factree seat brackets, a feller laid his eyeballs on set of some pretty wicked tires. Curious as to what they’re going on.

Keep these videos coming . Enjoy your show. I just snagged me up a 1962 Chevrolet C10 longbed with a 292 CiD. Some weight reduction but not horrrible. Going to give it a new life.
C10 and c 20 are my favorite pickup body style
good video, a feller can find these C-10's all over the place here in Arizona.
lucky!
Can't wait to get off work so I can actually watch this and get a cold snack
Good Lord,You gotta be the funniest guy that wrenches on vehicles I know!!! Don't change your foremat.I love the witty sayings like Factory,Get Some, and other things, but your dry humor is the BEST! THANK YOU and can't wait for your next video!
Thanks Allen appreciate it
The old Chevy C10 is a beautiful vintage pickup! It would be so cool to use a metal flake paint job, like what used on speed boats and custom cars. I really like this brand new facebook channel. He fixes everything with a pair of vice grips, duct tape, and coat hanger wire.
I’ve been wanting to watch a video in how to do “body work” with stuff like that. Good work man I love the videos!
Pop rivets work well.Run the STOP part down.
You're in luck, a guy did one on his Dodge Ram a while back.

I can't believe I never thought of using CLR to clean rust out of a fuel tank
My buddy used swing set chain. not sure how well that works though haha
The only thing is, CLR dissolves rust and you could end up with a hole 🙄
When I first read this comment I thought you were talking about CLP, for cleaning guns up until I got to that part of the video. I was understandably a little confused, but curious how well it would work lol
You bring back old beasts from the dead. Amazing talent! 👍👍
I love the Zip Ties N Bias Plies flag. The amount of automotive genius shared between the two of you is almost dangerous.
Thank you for the great episode, Derek. Thank you also leaving the Thriftmaster 6, one of my favourite motors of all time. Like in your truck, these engines can be abused and have practically no maintenance and then fire right up in winter. Even if they have small issue like yours, they can be fixed with simple means, like in your case. The Thriftmaster don't get no respect but it's one of the most durable motors in history.
nice, thanks for the info
In High School (beer is good, pot is great, we’re the class of ‘78). My bud had an old GimCee with that 6. I think all it got was my drain oil from ‘71 Monty 350 4bbl. I can attest that truck was a beast.
I'll put an old MOPAR Slant 6 up there with it. You can't kill those things and many have tried.
A good start to a guys weekend when he can watch another guy booger weld a old truck 👍

Those are my favorite vintage of the C series Chevy, a real classic. I'm thinking maybe a guy should probably put some brakes on 'er so it'll stop at least 59% of the time
I'm loving everything about this video. I even love the weak jokes it's priceless lol. The main reason is that my Uncle has a 66 C-10 that I'd love to get for my first build, but he's not budging. Seats are important! Reminds me of my father about 6-7 years after he came back from Vietnam. He obtained his "personal daily-driven" vehicles the same way that you get them here on VGG. One day he managed to get a 68-69 Chevy step side running well enough to drive it home from the junkyard and we were pulled over for a wrong tag. There were at least a dozen or so tickets that the officer could have written but the officer was laughing so hard about us sitting on milk crates that he let us go.
This is eggmazing
When I was a young fella a friend and I were stopped by hyw patrolman for some forgotten reasons, he was not impressed with our sitting arrangement wooden kitchen chairs screwed to plywood screwed to floor. Gave use quite the talking to about just because it maybe wasn’t illegal it sure wasn’t safe, we got off with the talking to we explained we were redoing the seats ourselves. Being in North Dakota in the early sixties the police knew the whole population, and what you were doing and who with.

I fondly remember my '64 C10, when I decided I needed to take the small 6cyl out and put in a nice 283, I started after work on Friday, drove to work on Monday, all in my apartment parking lot!!!
I've been binging a bit, and it dawned on me. This feels similar in spirit to some of zip ties and bias plies videos, but more laid back, and family friendly.
Not at all a bad thing!
My current c-10 project is a serious restoration/restomod project, but I gotta admit, this makes me want to do a rat rod truck too.
