She's landing with a 60 degree crosswind @ 23, gusting to 29. Anyone who's ever landed an airplane in a crosswind can appreciate the level of concentration and skill it takes to land safely under those conditions . . . Appeared to be just another day at the office for her! Well done!
A 60 deg crosswind at an average wind speed of say 26 kts equates to a crosswind component of 13 kts and a headwind component of 23 kts. The forward speed is about 130 kts so the crab angle is 1 in 10 or about 6 degrees, not a lot for a big aircraft. The gusty wind is more of a problem than the crosswind.
I like watching females doing things in a traditionally mans world and in many cases doing even better at it, my wife is a pilot and a good one. Never flew a heavy airplane but the weight would help stabilize things as long as you hold the right line and descent rate right. My small light Searey is a hand full and being it's a tail dragger makes things even more fun in gusty winds. You were really yanking and banking on that yoke but it looked like a really did a nice touch down.
crosswind landings are difficult. But remember: This airplane is swept wing which gives you little room for banking compared to a strait wing.

The most impressive view of a landing I've seen. I've seen the front view between the pilots many times, but this camera focuses more in the work the pilot must do to control the plane and it's amazing!

This perspective of the cockpit is so weird, I watched the last 10 seconds to touch down x times now and I can't see 100% the moment, when the front wheels touches the ground, nothing shows the nose going down and I also can't see, if at the touch down of the main landing gear the right or the left wheels touch fist the runway or both the same. Can you know this exacly, if one side touches much earlier the runway than the rest of the wheels?

Be careful not to be like someone else we know who signs off each time with his well-known almost catch-phrase-like ending; “All the best, your, Captain...” - you know who I’m talking about 😂

Love the subtitles, explanation labels, etc. For those of us uninitiated viewers who enjoy watching these kind of videos, it is so helpful and gives a ton of context and understanding of what goes on inside the command deck when I I am simply a passenger on one of these flights. Kudos for making this interesting AND fun.

This pilot showed focus and concentration, and great skills, great feel for how the aircraft was behaving in the windy conditions. She is a shining example of what you can achieve at a relatively young age. Chapeau. Lovely lady, fantastic pilot.

Maybe you need to look at Ryan bush pilot in PNG. He does the best pilot videos on UA-cam. And he's flying in a country where runways are killers.
A cross wind landing I did once on my flight check with a KLM pilot as my copilot saw us veer late and heavily to the left of the runway heading when a strong gust of wind came suddenly across the runway. I put in full opposite aileron and rudder with additional power to slide back onto the runway heading. Re-centered the controls in unison, lowered the power setting and kissed the runway right on cue. God-powered flying as I like to call it. Pure instinct. You become the plane. You show the same set of natural skills. Nice job.

@@Doo_Doo_Patrol it’s called pilot in command for a reason. It took me ages to become a proper PIC. I would always get tight on the controls when in a tricky situation. Now, I just take control of the plane and work the problem. You want to try and land a weight shift in strong winds or do a cross wind landing onto a grass strip with a weight shift.. that’s a whole different ball game. I’ve flown all sorts now and each time I learn something new. Yes, there is an element of luck, but you can make your own luck and as my instructor always used to bellow at me, fly the plane and keep a good eye out for traffic.

I know, it's a bit eerie if you're not a pilot. It's the real business. Also, seeing how much the pilot moves the controls (joystick?) on approach. In contrast, I was surprised that once the plane was rolling on ground she barely looked at the front, you wouldn't drive a car like that, what's going on, did the other chap take over?

She was not "worried about the crosswinds." She was taking them into account. She never looked worried to me.

This camera angle is impressive! I've seen plenty of landing videos from behind the pilot or on the dashboard pointing forward, but this sideways angle is great because we can see all the inputs you do on the yoke. I never realized how many corrections you pilots do and how big they are. It has been impressive, thank you!. I'm going to check your channel to see if there's more like this one. If this is the first time, I hope it's not the last :).

I cannot be anything other than amazed at pilots' skills. Despite all the technology the process is still so manual and hands on. Yes, I know there's even autoland and all, but just the amount of switches that need to be flipped upon landing alone is staggering. Truly amazing to be able to coordinate your body and mind to follow such a flow of operations.
Imagine one day when EVERYTHING on board is digital and you quite literally program the aircraft to execute a script and you just verify it's all in the green. :)
First time I see a landing from the cockpit, also first time I can hear the touchdown from the pilots perspective. Is very cool.

Their is a tremendous level of grace and respect when seeing a woman doing something that so many other women would disqualify themselves from pursuing. Not to mention, 99% of all men shy away from such a high level of skill requirements and commitment. When I see my daughter's fly, who are 11 and 7, it gives me this big wave of inner peace. Not because they are flying, but because they are able to be powerful and heroic, dedicated and developing a skill set that can be applied to anything they may want to do with their lives.
I definitely have spurred all of my kids into following Dutch Pilot Girl. They may choose to follow me into a career in aviation, they may choose to follow our agricultural roots, either way they will go about their lives with a mind set that encompases calculation, planning, training and execution

I remember she's flying Transavia (right?) and they're only operating B737-700/800. So probably not recently (video quality is also not of these times) .
@Cian McMahon Seen the winglets with Transavia logo on her IG story a while back. Further Transavia is mentioned sometimes in the comments on IG. And no Transavia never operated with the 737-400 (only 737-200 and 300). Two years ago they already flew the 737-800 beside their 737-700 fleet.

Having a Father who flew 737-200's, I know there is "NOT" much spare time in a Pilots life!
I remember my Father being called at any time during the month to be told he needs to fly out tomorrow, or the next day!
Sometimes, the pre-warning was less than 24 hours!
This was mainly due to emergencies, or other Pilot sickness, severe family situations, etc.
I was fortunate to fly with him several times and witness first hand the life of a commercial pilot's life! You go on 2 to 7 day plus flights that start somewhere in the early morning hours, and may end after 7pm that night, "sometimes' during your flight schedule! I have seen a lot of the World from 5 miles up in the air. I have fond memories of these trips!
Definitely spending 12 hours in a plane daily is something you have to get use to.
Plus, both Captain & FO are constantly watching the skies for dangers, or other aircraft! I remember one time we (or they) came very close to another countries military aircraft! It's was well over with before anyone commented! Maybe 3 seconds of the flight, sighting till it passed us! If was headed straight towards us! We were taking off, and they were landing! They don't know how this happened, but it did!
Other dangers is the skies, Clouds, Thunderstorms, other abnormal activities. People don't realize the Pilots make decisions daily altering the planes path to avoid certain Cloud Formations, especially if there is lighting visible. They referenced the radar as well. The plane also had other warning gauges.

This video compensates more than enough my 'comment' to your video landing in Singapore! Even time to be relaxed while finding her way to the threshold through crosswinds: relaxation and concentration. That's the spirit.
I loved her final moments before touchdown. A lot of steering input in rapid succession. She's basically flying by the seat of her pants. The plane wants to move around in the crosswind, and she is responding instantly with the steering. That is experience from a finely tuned butt. I'm a retired Marine Corps weather forecaster. Fortunately, Sailors and Marine aircraft have the tail hook option. Just turn final a little on the short side, touch down with one wheel, and take the wire. It will straighten you right out and stop you in a matter of plane lengths. Let's see you do that with a 737! We kind of draw the line at a 30 degree crosswind, but I have see our experienced pilots do a lot more than that. The Navy guys have it a little easier. They just turn the boat into the wind!
I never knew it required so much input on the controls, that was crazy to me to see her give so much left/right input on the controls.

Thats what scares me about manual flight. How the sensitivity of the plane varies so much during different conditions.
@@miked5539 Not really true, Mike D. The rougher the air, the more often the aircraft gets off the glide path, whether it's on autopilot or being flown manually. When the aircraft moves off the glide path abruptly, it needs to be flown right back on it. Thus the "abrupt" and numerous control inputs. Remaining off the glide path can lead to a dangerous "dragged-in" approach or being so steep that a safe landing cannot be made in the available runway.
Looks like she's 'blipping' them because the aircraft is slow to respond.

Stirring the pot is not an ideal technique.

Great job! I know generally one does not want to make that many quick adjustment while flying. I always tell people good fast drivers should be as smooth as airline pilots, but results speak louder than words. I would fly with you anytime.
Yes true, in most cases no quick adjustments are necessary :)
In a big heavy airplane (relatively speaking) those large sharp inputs only generate relatively small responses at low speed. So if you saw the outside view you would not see the aircraft flight path deviate much. But she can’t let it start to deviate. She is aggressively keeping the airplane exactly where she wants it in-spite of the gusts trying to blow her off the approach path in pitch or roll. You would never see her make inputs like that in climb or cruise. It’s the most demanding aspect of handling the aircraft, other than an engine failure, and you can see that she does it with complete confidence. I expect it is also the most fun part of the flight. You can tell by her handling and the way her hands just fly to all the right switches and dials, by muscle memory, that she has several thousand hrs under her belt, probably many of them in the 737.
hmmm, for gusty conditions looks like a perfectly smooth landing ... even a mini-flare (difficult to judge from that cam angle) .... very good video by an excellent young pilot lady ...
She's one bad ass pilot in the middle of crosswinds.. funny all that compensation on the yoke... just pure concentration... love it!

At about the 3 minute mark, the laughs and casual nature turned to a more serious, but cool and calm, focus. Please be in the pilot seat on my next Delta flight.

Thank you for the video and the insight into your job. Tt was so impressive that the control inputs seam to pre-empt the wind effects on the plane, so the view outside the window seamed almost straight down the glide slope, yet you were working the control hard. So instinctive.

I also have to say that watching these airline vids, it's so weird to see the pilots with their eyes on the instrument panel. After 30 years of driving and 10 years of VFR flying, it's just abnormal not to look outside on a clear day. Props to the pilot and crew here bringing it in smooth and accurate, as they do every day all over the world!
She is obviously is a very skilled pilot. However, she needs to keep her head up to improve her awareness of what's going on outside the cockpit. Just staying.

Stupid question : after hundreds of landings, how would you describe your stress level during such a landing? Heart rate, adrenaline, sweating? I mean, is it "just another day at the office", or is your heart about to burst? I can't imagine myself getting used to such pressure. Kudos for handling it like a BOSS!!

I am studying to be a pilot and the reason for this is because the slower you go the less airflow you have over the control surfaces of the plane and it takes a larger deflection of the controls to get the plane to do what you want it to do. The faster the plane is moving the less you have to move the controls to get it to move in the direction you want it to go. And she is also having to do more corrections than normal because of the winds.

@@gregson99 Most definitely. You don't get the feel of the airplane at all in a simulator. Even doing stalls in a simulator is nothing like the real thing. You have to use your rudder in real life because of the way the plane breaks, but in a sim, it does not break the same way.
@@gregson99 not from my experience. It’s a well known physic, pretty sure most desktop simulators simulate it.
Fantastic, as a person who hates flying I was even nervous watching this video. That (lovely) young lady remained calm and completely in control more flights from this pilot please.

Nice landing Michelle! How responsive is the yoke or how much do you correct the direction of the plane? To the untraind eye it looks like you are brutal with the controls...
The yoke is very responsive and it needs to be... usually you should be able to fly the airplane with your pinky ;)

I always wanted to see and have never seen before how wild wind looks inside the cockpit. Turbulence videos are always taken from persons in the cabin, and pilot videos always without nasty wind. That was great to see how much and in which way it shakes at the front. It was good, you had no full coffee cup anymore ;-)

As an MD-80, B-727 & DC-9 captain .....I can certainly attest that strong x-wind landings are indeed extra demanding in both technique & coordination skills. The smoothest crosswinds landing I've ever experienced was a lady Dutch Pilot, we were really sideways yet she landed it smoother than some straight landings I've had. Mad skills!
Wow, didn’t realize there was that much going on in the cockpit after touch down. Both were all over pushing buttons and switching switches. Not the automated system I was thinking. 🤔 coming in she was moving the yoke all over to keep it stable. Must have been pretty windy 🌬

I've been on an airline flight before in somewhat windy landings, you can definitely see the control surfaces moving around to counteract the wind. Since I can't see what's going on in the cockpit, watching the wing control surfaces is the next best thing for me. Plus, much less aircraft motion felt near the wings during flight.

A friendly, competent and confident pilot flying. Just a couple of suggestions. Many line captains (but just about all training captains) really push the sterile below 10,000 feet doctrine, which include few (if any) joking remarks from 10,000 feet until parked at the gate unless something quite out of the ordinary and humorous occurs in between. Smiles and looking at the pilot in the left seat does break the ice and can build rapport, but too often and it might also work against you. Also, a confirmation which is critical after landing is the "clear on the (left or right)" call when you are about to cross another runway (active or non-active) and clear head movements by both pilots in the direction of that runway. Dutch Pilot Girl demonstrated a very smooth last twenty feet without any unnecessary jerky control wheel movement, and she demonstrated good command in relation to the thrust lever quadrant actions. Thanks. Great video clip.
