Amazing swatches & it's so helpful when you put them side by side so we can see the subtle shade differences! I love the ones with a hint of pink! Thanks again Brandi for giving so many options for us to try! Have a fantastic week!
Hey Ginger!!! Aren’t the subtle pink ones so gorgeous?!?! I love them so much! Thanks for watching another video, Ginger. Hope your week is fabulous!!!
Funny Bunny and Ballet Slippers were my first sheer polishes too. I remember I didn't realize they were "sheers" per se. I didn't really know in those days, but I absolutely loved them, and I still do. I've recently added Bubble Bath and a few Sally Hansens to my little sheers family. I love all of them.
Hi Linda!!! Those are all such great picks! What are some of your fave Sally Hansen sheers (if you don’t mind sharing)? I’ve had a couple of people recommend their sheers! Thanks for watching!!
@@livwithbiv The Sally Hansens are, Blush Against the World, Rosy Quartz and a sheer, white one but I can't remember the name of it and sadly, I can't find it. They all are beautiful.
Love the OG background with the polish racks. I felt the same about sheer polishes. I thought what’s the point, it’d there’s barely any color?!? But now that I’m 35, I have grown to appreciate them. I just bought Essie Sugar Daddy, thanks to Larissa, and I love it!! It was my first purchase of 2022 😊
Hey Nancy!!! I’m back in my nail polish room for videos! Glad you enjoy the background. 😁 Love that your view on sheers has changed too! It opens our love of nail polish to a whole new world!! Lol! More polish choices! 🙌🏻
Thanks for the live swatches 🤍. Mademoiselle and Ballet will be with me to the end of time 😭. I swear bubble bath use to be more pink, did they change up the formula? I agree floating the last coat is everything. The only downside of sheers is that you can’t cover your ridges well. I don’t think any ridge base coat is 100 coverage. I still love sheers though.
Hey Michele!! Thanks for watching!!! Totally agree that Mademoisele and Ballet are must haves!! I totally thought Bubble Bath used to be more pink! This one was sent to me last year from Opi, and I was so surprised!! I hadn’t owned it previously!! Do you have a fave ridge filling base coat???
One trick is to apply one coat of a matte top coat over your first coat of sheer polish. The matte formula can help hide ridges and it really helps the sheer polish glide over the nail. So apply 1. Base coat 2. One coat of sheer polish 3. Apply matte top coat 4. Apply the next 1-2 coats of sheer polish 5. apply glossy top coat. It’s just one more layer but it does help with ridges and streaky polish especially pastels!
Great video Brandi! I love sheers especially in January! Ballet Slippers is my all time favourite sheer. Thank you so much for the comparisons though they are so helpful! Also I love your Essie wall, I feel like it gets bigger every time I see it 🤣
Good swatches. I used to wear sheers a lot, but now I like more saturated, but liking sheers again, ha! My favs, Opi Funny Bunny, Opi Act Your Beige, Essie Ballet Slippers (must have wide brush on all Essies), Orly Breathable Almond Milk, Essie Vanity Fairest, Essie East Hampton Cottage, Butter London Doily, and so many more I can't remember. Usually would go for light whites, but love light pinks and lilacs too.
It's nice to try something different every now and then. I love strong and bright colors but like to go more subtle and elegant at times. These are some interesting examples of colors I could try. Thanks!
Hi Brandi! You always do such a great job💅. I'm so glad sheers are "in". My favorites for years since I used to wear Ballet Slippers 99% of the time and had to learn to apply it streak free😍.Bless the new wide brush...makes life so easy... I find myself using ORLY of late, they have beautiful white and pink sheers and a great wide brush. I just love Essie's Waltz and Allure (white) Orly's Kiss the Bride (pink) and after watching your video: Mademoiselle and Sugar Daddy.
There’s something about OPI bubble bath that looks super odd on me. My BF even said it’s weird like it’s too close to my skin tone maybe. Looks like it’s a lot warmer than a lot of the swatches, might have to try some of Essie’s offerings again if they’re moving to a wide brush. Seems like they lean a little cooler/lighter.
Yass!!! Essie has some great cool toned sheers! I totally know what you’re talking about with Bubble Bath! I have some polishes that look weird bc they’re too close to my skin tone. A lot of polishes are like that on me actually. Lol!
I got burned out on highly pigmented polishes, but five years of polish = stained nails. Then I found the Zoya naked protectors by accident! Two coats of Lavender plus two coats of Sheer Fantasy equals a nice better than naked but almost a French look. I’m so happy with it.
Been wanting a sheer for French tips and negative-space nail art. Thanks for the comparisons, Brandi 🤩 Bunny Slope pops on you! Sugar Daddy looks perfect for what I'm looking for.
Omg I love sheers. I need all the gel coutures you showed as well as OPI bubble bath! I like wearing toppers on their own too for a sheer and sparkly look! Great video 👏🏽
I sometimes like a sheer as a palette cleanser. I just picked up Mademoiselle. I already have O&J BEB and Ballet Slippers. I think they make a great base for nail art too.
Those are great tips for the application of sheers. The formulas are challenging, to be sure!! I actually use those techniques for every polish I apply because the results are so much better and look more professional. Thanks for all of these suggestions -- you must have read my mind, because post-holiday season I am always ready for palette cleanser colors.
Hey friend!!! Yes!! Totally agree those application tips are so helpful for all polishes! 🤗🤗 And I totally feel the same about palette cleansers after the holidays! Seriously the best time for sheers! Thanks so much for watching, friend. Hope you have an amazing week. 😘😘
Great video! I'm just starting to use more sheer polishes after using Cajun shrimp from OPI for over 30 years! The comparisons are so helpful, I just bought Essie imported bubbly and I love it! Another thing worth mentioning is how beautiful your natural curls are! From one curly girl to another, your curls look amazing!
Hi Kim!!! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!! Glad you found the comparisons helpful. ❤️ And from a curly girl to another, thank you!! 💋

I found this video through insta. I have never worn a sheer, don't see myself as a sheer polish person, but this video made me want to pick up vanity fairest!
Essie East Hampton Cottage is my all-time favorite in this catagory. Right up there with it is OPI Don't Touch my Tutu and OPI Don't Burst My Bubble. In fact, the only full collection I have ever bought was the OPI NYC Ballet collection. I am sadly ending my well-rationed bottles. I prefer OPI Funny Bunny to Essie Marshmellow due to formula issues. I wish the pink gel version of OPI Bubble Bath was what we got in the bottle of normal polish instead of the beige version
I love love LOVE sheer polishes and I think I've had about 15 of the 20 you picked for this video! Loved the comparisons too. I'm not sure if it is the lighting or the settings on your camera, but the polishes in this video are not colour accurate; looks slightly yellowish or more neutral than they do in real life. Most of them are a little more pink that what we see here. Still a fun video! I think my favourite sheer has got to be Vanity Fairest; my very first Essie and the most amazing sheer pink with beautiful micro shimmer. Sooo pretty and amazing in bright sunlight or halogen.
Hi Cat! Thanks so much for watching! Some of the polishes I have are a bit older, and they can tend to yellow with age. I almost included Limo-scene because I love that polish, but it had completely yellowed. Lol. My Sugar Daddy and Vanity Fairest were a bit more yellowed/neutral, but the rest were new and pretty accurate. So many fun sheers tho!!! I’m loving them!!
I'm totally into sheers at the moment for my toes. I am still trying to get used to application on my hands. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and might pick up a couple you mentioned. Tfs!
Hey Marissa!!!! They do really take a lot of getting used to for the right application. One you get it though, it’s heaven!! Hope you find a few that you love!!!! 💜💜💜
Thanks for this thorough review of sheers! I have several of them and enjoy a sheer mani especially in spring. I’ve been wondering, how would you explain the difference between a sheer and a jelly? Or is it basically the same?
Ooooh!!! Great question! I THINK, but I’m not sure, that it’s just maybe the difference in the color (sheers are more similar to your skin tone/nail bed). 🤔 Jellies can be a blue, green or any other color, and the formula (I feel like) is a bit more squishy. Lol. So, to summarize…I have no idea. Lol!! I’ll find out for you! 🤣
@@livwithbiv Following with interest! I've seen (and attempted) a couple of really cool "pond" nail arts that use layered jellies, so I'm busy looking for more jellies to add to my 99% cremes collection.
I’ve been itching to get more sheers, so this is perfect timing! I definitely want to pick up Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle. Fingers crossed for the wide brushes. Thanks for sharing these! ❤️
Definitely, definitely get those wide brushes! I spoke with Beyond Polish yesterday, and they said that if you order from them and get the skinny brush, you can return it unused for a wide brush bottle. ❤️
Hi Brandy, I love this video! Thanks for all the beautiful swatch comparisons, and tips for applying sheer colors. Bodice Goddess and Best Boyfriend would suit my skin tone the best. I'd love to see your sheer magentas and purples.
Hi Bonnie!! Thanks so much for watching. Those are great choices!! I only have 1 sheer magenta and 1 sheer purple. 🙈 They are the sheer Essie Expressie polishes. Sounds like I need to add more. Lol. Do you have a fave sheer magenta or purple I should try?
Loved seeing all the sheers in this video!! I am actually committing to wearing only sheers for the month of January. After all the sparkle throughout December that I wore, I want a month of “clean” polishes! I always grab sheer pink polish if I want a nail cleanse. Right now I have on Bodice Goddess. My last two before this were Essie Inside Scoop (my FAVORITE sheer pink) and Marshmallow. 😊😊
Hey Holly!! So glad you enjoyed the sheers here!!! I need to find Essie Inside Scoop!! I saw Laurie @gopolished post that one in her transition shades video!! It looks so pretty!!!
New follower here and loving your videos! I normally still love darks for winter, but this time around I’m craving some more soothing and softer colours! You’ve given such excellent recommendations and some that I do not have! Fantastic! Hello from the UK 🇬🇧💜
I definitely need to check out Allure. A lot of people have recommended that one. I’ve also heard some say their Bubble Bath is more pink. I wonder if there are two versions?! 🤔
Enjoyed the video . Mademoiselle is one of my fav polishes .I mostly put on on or two coats and add Essie’s base and top coat which I purchased last week . It has a nice shine too . I like Ballet Slippers ,however I threw out my bottle of Tuck In The Tux . It was just to hard to work with even when it was new !😫
Thanks so much, Monica!!! I’m so sad your Tux was hard to work with!!! For some reason, mine was smooth as butter. I hope I don’t steer anyone wrong with that one. 😢 Totally agree Mademoisele is an absolute must have tho!! Ballet Slippers too!! They’re soooo nice!!!
Skinny Dip is one of my all time favorites. Have not been able to find it in Europe since it is so old. I like sheers for Lent. I do not do more than 2 coats with a sheer as seeing the nail ine is sort of the point. I am looking for one that has a "porcelain" sheer white look. One tip I got from youtube is to put a matte top coat on between the sheer coats as it gives the sheer polish something to "hang on to" on the second coat. Mademoiselle is another favorite. I always saw it as the same as Ballet Slippers so I do not have Ballet Slippers.
@@livwithbiv it was cuter when I was an ex wife. My second husband died in october and now I am a widow. It's not one I am sure I could ever wear again. We'll see.
I had the same exact progression! Hated them, now I’m a huge sucker! I actually tried a new one a few days ago: Sally Hansen Rosy Quartz. I was wondering if it would be a streaky color and it honestly was not, and while the brush is big it was very easy to float over my nails. It’s really translucent, and pinky pink with a TINY bit of peach/white imo. Still definitely a PINK a though. I only did two coats because I put scattered holo on top of it (love that combo!) but I kind of wish I did three just to see if I’m honest. Next time! As for ones in the video: I’ve been eyeing so many of these lol. I have Marshmallow and Hi Maintenance and I LOVE them, as well as Orly Rose-Colored glasses (cool pale pink, no beige. easy formula, easy brush, easy application. my absolute favorite polish to recommend beginners, particularly if they identify with a group that may be worried about tryout out nail polish), Bubble Bath (didn’t flatter my skintone… need to try again with 3 coats), and ILNP Sweet Pea. Sheer Luck, Mademoiselle, Fairy Tailor, Gossamer Garments, Vanity Fairest, and Sheer Fantasy all have a nonzero chance of breaking my no-buy on any day. I don’t know why I haven’t done it for them yet.
That’s so funny that you were the same!! Why did it take us so long to love them?!? Lol!! I definitely need to check out some of your faves now. Can’t wait to try more! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!!! 💗💗💗
I wonder if my bottle of Sugar Daddy changed! 🤔 It’s an older bottle, and I know sometimes the color can change!! Maybe I need to go find a newer bottle (with a wide brush). Lol.
I only recently got really into sheers, especially for nail art, and the tipping point for me was the French Blue Sheer from Cirque Colors, unfortunately I think was only ever in their Shibori art set and they don't have it in stock on the Cirque website anymore but it is seriously a must have!
This is such a good video, lots of great iconic sheer polishes. Something for everyone and every undertone. Before I was into regular manicures and before I used to take pics of my manicures for Instagram I would only wear sheers and nudes. My manicures were only a way to make myself look tidy and groomed, but not a way of expressing myself. So I still have lots of sheers (Essie Ballet Slippers, Mademoiselle, OPI Bubble Bath etc), but now I don't wear them anymore. However I'm still very happy to have my little sheer collection as they do come in handy if one needs or wants a little toned down, elegant look. So thank you so much for your fantastic video and tips.
Hey Anne!!! 👋🏼 I bet sheers and nudes look amazing on you!!! Your hands are so beautiful. I bet they look like mannequin hands when you wear them! Of course, colors look gorgeous on you as well! Thanks so much for watching another video, friend!!!
Great video! Loved the side by side comparisons. Question, is the point of sheer polish to let fingernail (white part) show through OR to build up layers to cover all, like opaque? I don't have time to do multiple coats, was thinking of getting a neutral opaque and do one coat.
Thanks so much!!! Honestly, you can do whatever you want with a sheet polish! That’s the joy of them. If you like a more opaque look, and don’t want to build up, they’re probably not going to be your fave. If you like the squish look that building them up creates, go for it! On the other hand, if you want your nail line showing, they’re perfect for that!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍
@@livwithbiv Thanks for reply! I'm wondering if this neutral sheer look is taking over for the French Manicure look as the new clean, classic look. This was the 1st video of yours I happened upon, great video!
Which sheer would be best for golden skin maybe something with gold verse pink. I really like the one I just got today. Of corset. I bought it because I wear the same color foundation shade as Alicia keys so I saw she tried this one so for my first sheer. I need colors in general that will look nice.
Oooooh!!! I bet Of corset looks great on you!! It’s hard for me to say specific colors, but if I were you, I’d lean toward the more warm toned sheers (like Of Corset) as opposed to cooler tones.
revisiting this in July. I need a sheer beige without being a wedding themed title. just can't do those right now. I have Essie Brides to Be and kicks Mr. right, just can't do it.
I bought Ballet Slippers today, I don't know what I did wrong unless it was too hot in the room to apply, but it wasn't smooth going on, it dragged, disappointed with it. 🤷👍🏻🇬🇧
Hmmm. I definitely think if you didn’t have air conditioning, and it was too hot, that can affect it. I have tried to paint in hotter temps before, and it’s not the easiest. Did you ‘float’ the brush? That can be helpful too.
@@livwithbiv I'll try that next time, thanks for replying, a few have told me that particular polish is more difficult to apply. I use Orly mainly which glides on beautifully and one cost normally enough. X
@@Lynn-zw7dr oh wow!!! I need that Orly sheet if it’s one coat. That’s amazing. Alll of my Essie sheers are 2-3 coats for my preferred taste. If only they could make Essie sheers like their creams!! Their creams are pure perfection!
As a Baby Boomer, l like the french polish but some sheers turn into horrible colours on the white tips. OPI Bubble Bath goes an ugly shade of orange, in fact any really peachy shade does bit Bubble Bath is particularly bad. Essie Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle are much kinder to the white tips! Using a soft shade of white instead of a stark Arctic white helps too
Sheer polishes are in this world to make me feel that my hands are from a Disney movie. They use the same color for flesh and nails, wich is totally unrealistic. Thats why 3 coats of Fairy Tailor give me the fantasy🫳🏻🫴🏻✨

@@tanyagibbs1618 I need to find out more about this pond nail art you speak of!!!🤗🤗🤗
I’ve been itching to get more sheers, so this is perfect timing!
Hey Tiffany!!!! Thanks for subscribing!!! So glad you found some here that you are excited about!! Have a fantastic week, new friend!!! 😘
Essie allure is also an all time favourite of mine. I think I have finished 3 Bottles already😅
I have Bubble Bath but mine seems to be more pink
Hey Jennifer!!! Skinny Dip is so pretty!!!! I need to try out that matte topcoat trick! Thanks so much for sharing and have a great week!! ❤️
@@livwithbiv forgot to mention that starter wife is also a favorite. I was able to snag another Skinny Dip from Tradera, swedish ebay. I am so happy.
@@jwlundgren oh yaaaaaaay!!!! 🙌🏻 I need to check out Starter Wife. What a cute name by the way!! 🤣
@@livwithbiv it was cuter when I was an ex wife. My second husband died in october and now I am a widow. It's not one I am sure I could ever wear again. We'll see.
@@jwlundgren awwww. I’m so sorry!!! I can’t even imagine…
Sugar daddy definitely changed….it use to be more pink back when I rocked it years ago 😄 I need to check out the Essie GC ones you mentioned! 😍
Aw mannnn!!! That sounds like such a lovely polish!!!!
I love sheers when I have shorties or anytime on my toes, my go to sheer polishes are sugar daddy, skinny dip, bubble bath , I like sheer luck too
Great choices!!!! I need to try some sheers on my toes!!!!
Sheer vanity is my fav 💖
Oh sorry I meant sheer fantasy 😂is my favorite sheer Essie shade 😊
@@joanshealy1662 Sheer Fantasy is so pretty!!! Thanks so much for watching!!!
This was super helpful- thanks!
Oh yaaaaaay!!!! So glad!!!! Thanks for watching!!
I love sheer polishes. One of the first polishes I owned way back in the day (25ish years ago) was Essie’s Linen Like. I swear I’m not 40 🤣
Oh wow!!! I’ve never heard of that one and I’m over 40!!! 🤣🤣 Time to Google that one!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
It looks like the perfect sheer!!!!!!!
Such a helpful video!
Oh yaaaaay!!!! I’m so glad!!!
Mademoiselle is my absolute fave neutral sheer!
It’s so pretty!!!! A true classic!!!!!
I really like Tuck it in my Tux! I went on vacation recently and I wore it topped with ILNP Pina Colada 🙂
Oooooh!!!! I bet that was a gorgeous combo!!!!
@@livwithbiv it was!
This is an amazing video!
Thank you!!!! ❤️
I soo needed this, thank you
Oh yaaaaaaay!!!!! Glad it was helpful!!!!!!
@@livwithbiv I only wear sheer on my finger nails, and I really love pink, I'm going to have new favorites I'm sure
I'm picking up bodice godess next time I order from Amazon, I love it
@@sarahgarrison9006 you will definitely love that one!!! If you love sheers, you’re going to love the pink sheers!!!!
What would you say is the closest polish to a typical BIAB pink shade? X
@@livwithbiv Right, I just died from happiness. Honestly, you have made my day back and forth with this lovely comment. Thank YOU!!!!
@@farbenostalgia9863 ❤️❤️❤️
I love sheers in theory but hardly ever go for them. I really don't know why. Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle are so very pretty.
Those two are very pretty!!! I never used to reach for sheers, but they are definitely growing on me!!!
loved the picks, any dope recommendations for the Essie bff best friend 711??
I wish I knew of some!!! Have you checked your Nordstrom rack? That’s where I got mine recently. 💗
@@CH-1984 totally think it could be the new French mani. It’s such a nice clean look! 🤍 And thanks for watching! Enjoy your weekend!
That was great!
Yaaaaay!!! So glad you enjoyed!!!
Do you know of any polishes that apply in 1 *even-coat*?
Thanks so much for the video! 🎉
Hi Kayla! I don’t know of any sheer polishes that do unfortunately.
I love sheer polishes but haven't found "the one" yet to create the french mani "naturally" so I dont have to add the white at the tip. lol TFS =-)
Hope you were able to find a polish or two from this list!! Thanks so much for watching!!!!
I'm wearing bodice goddess right now 🥰 it's soooooo gorgeous and I got it for 4 dollars at target 💅
Wow!!!! Great find!!! Bodice Goddess is so pretty and hard to find! That’s amazing you got it for so cheap!!!
Did you find one you like?!?!
@@livwithbiv no, that's why I posted the comment. ;-)
How are you doing your nails without getting bubbles?
I’m not sure. I don’t ever get bubbles. Do you mean there are bubbles in the nail polish as you apply it?
@@livwithbiv The bubbles come up when the polish dries.
Using a soft shade of white instead of a stark Arctic white helps too
It’s been said that Queen Elizabeth
has worn Essie’s ballet slippers since the 80’s.
Love it!!! That proves how classic it is!!!! 🙌🏻
Sheer polishes are in this world to make me feel that my hands are from a Disney movie. They use the same color for flesh and nails, wich is totally unrealistic. Thats why 3 coats of Fairy Tailor give me the fantasy🫳🏻🫴🏻✨
Yassss!!! Fairy Taylor is sooo pretty!!!!
Sheer polishes make me feel like a sophisticated adult. They’re like an identity pallet cleanser.
Totally agree, Lauren!!!!!! 🙌🏻

Your finger looks like there’s a little swelling and infection 😮
Thankfully, no infection. This was filmed over a year ago and it healed up nicely! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
