I just did on a Pentium 4 HT 2.8Ghz with 2GB DDR, was pretty slow but I found out the disk was GPT, I couldn't configure GRUB. I was pissed, other than that, it was quite fun.
It's not you who has the problem, it is the people who told you to use Fedora that have the problem. On top of Gentoo being super awesome, Fedora just stops working eventually.
You compile all of your packages (which does take time) but you can specify custom USE flags to enable/disable features. Portage is an awesome package manager. You get to remove a lot of bloat by omiting unwanted features and support for things like gnome or bluetooth. You also have the option of compiling the kernel with a similar level of customization. Really you trade time/processing power for deeper customization and understanding of Linux. I think it’s an amazing distro
@@michaelhoefler5118 I also think it is an amazing distro. I don't use it specifically because my PC only has 2 cores and 4 threads, so I don't think that I would be much productive with it.
Average hairy fedora user vs the chad bald gentooer
I rather go to jail than using Gentoo for 1 year
skill issue
With skills gained by using Gentoo for a year escaping the jail would be very easy
I like this guy.
at the moment kde is being installed on gentoo on my machine
1 year later and its still installing

I couldn't make it past the 6 month challenge with Void.
void is just arch but without all of the things that make arch good

OK but can I install this on my AMD Sempron 2200+ from 2004? 512 MB of RAM. I also want i3 or dwm 🙂
Yes, might take a while but it'll work.
@@10leej upd. Installed the base system in 8 hours. Kernel 5.15.88. It remains only to install xorg and i3 or dwm. But yeah, everything works great 😃

I've been looking for a way out for about 10 years now. The USE flags and the /etc/portage/patches is just too good to give up -.-
Real
this year write your own os and kernel

You look like Rumpellstiltskin ftom Shrek: Forever After.

What's so special about Gentoo?
