      this was a 104 year old walmart employee, not a healthy, strong 30 something man with modern education and many employment possibilities. For an old, retired, former us post worker not worrying about money, a routine, simple job is not a bad option. He keeps physically active, socially active with all the people he meets, feels needed and useful and engages his mind as well, but nothing too extreme. This was not a job but a form of physical therapy. And the best thing is, instead of paying for it, he gets paid doing it.

      Just saw this , this is really a good story. As someone brought up above he really could have retired to sit around as he earned his rest in his 60's and 70's. But he clearly liked being active as we see. You can see that really he just liked being around people and staying busy. This is a good story for anyone. RIP sir.

    This man was very smart. First he had a career with the Post Office. He probably collected a pension from that job. In addition at his retirement age he also was eligible to collect social security. After his full retirement age, he was able to work as much as he wanted, without having his social security benefits penalized. Not bad having three separate sources of income.
    This is one senior citizen, who did not face poverty in his golden years, and did not have to penny pinch. The biggest benefit of all is that he enjoyed, greater health, happiness and longevity than someone who just simply retired. I don't think the low wages at Walmart mattered to him. It wasn't about the money. He enjoyed what he was doing and he seemed passionate about it. The paycheck was secondary.

    People who retire will statistically have a lower life expectancy than those who continue to work indefinitely. This is because once you retire, your life has almost no meaning anymore. You have no role in society. You feel finished and ready to "retire" (die). This guy gets up every morning and knows he has to go to work to help people out, so he isn't ready to die yet (of course, everyone dies at some point, but working longer extends it). Pair that with good genes and you get this!

    And he got more done that you 20 year olds with your faces in the phones. This is what we call a man in my generation. I am 55 and I outwork all the little phone kids in my business. God forbid we ask them to work. Thanks Loren for working like a man. 103 and I bet God can't wait to put you on staff at the gates in heaven. I know Peter has to be getting tired....

    He was just waiting for the donation what a smart old man.
    Why can’t he work with the home for the aged instead since he want to serve?
    I lost a job because of an old man! The company chose the old man than a young worker like me! He’s a selfish old man and a witch

    Life definitely isn’t worth working for someone else, it would have been nicer if he was self employed. At his age, I think he only wanted a place to show up every day and that way lead an active life, I hope they paid him more than minimum wage. Walmart is well known for paying pathetic salaries and stagnant job roles where people rarely grow, unless they ^**+^##}{{

      Winfield is a small town. And my Mom, being an assistant manager at that Walmart, said that they were paying him $23 an hour. Minimum wage at that walmart is now $11. Every year you work their you get a $1 raise. So really he should've been getting paid more.

    I'm sure Loren Wade is a nice guy but i'm also sure other younger folks could use a job (one that should pay $15 to $22/hr). And likewise a younger person likely wouldn't be kept on if they worked as slowly as Loren. Loren's certainly right about staying active though - how about as a volunteer somewhere?
