  • neirokirurgi.lv/en/ An arachnoid cyst is a fluid-filled sac that forms on the arachnoid membrane, one of the three membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. These cysts are typically congenital, meaning they are present at birth, although they may also develop later in life due to injury or infection. Arachnoid cysts can vary in size and location within the brain or spinal cord.
Most arachnoid cysts are asymptomatic and may only be discovered incidentally during imaging tests for other conditions. However, if the cyst grows large enough, it can cause symptoms such as headaches, seizures, nausea, vomiting, balance problems, and developmental delays in children.
Treatment for arachnoid cysts depends on various factors, including the size and location of the cyst, as well as the presence and severity of symptoms. In some cases, observation and regular monitoring may be sufficient, while in others, surgical intervention may be necessary to drain the cyst or remove it completely.
