It took four years to make, locations all over the world and a skill from people willing to trudge through deserts to bring it to celluloid. It’s an art exhibit in the least and it’s simplicity makes it accessible in any decade. I hope they decide to do some kind of anniversary addition because it deserves to be seen.
This is one of my favorite movie. It's really sad it's not more well known. I appreciate you making a video on this rare gem, I hope it inspire other people to watch it
I don't think it's right to say that Alexandria doesn't have any darkness within her. What happened to her father and her home hurt her a lot, which is why Roy's story turning dark distresses her so much (especially since the bandit is supposed to be her father at the start of the story).
Governor Odious also represents a dark version of Roy. He was his stunt double, so he already plays a version of him. At first, Roy hates him and wants to destroy him, but it's really himself he feels that way about. And at the end, he's fighting Odious, battling with himself on whether or not to kill himself.
And I want to add that one of the main meaning of the movie is that. " even if you fall, you have to continue" that explains why Tarsem chose to use a stunt with a horse. Because when you fall from a horse you have to go back on it right after, in order to not keep the fear. And this is also why the movie ends with a "thank you" because Alexandria give him the energy to continue after that, to have the courage to continue living. And there is also the metaphore of falling in love. It's not as visible as an injury but surely it hurts and that' s that pain that could have killed Roy. And an other aspect is the power of stories, that allow us to live again some painful moment in our lives, to reach the catharsis and to go through. And yeah, I've just seen the movie and it's surely my favorite one.
The criterion collection should definitely release a 4K edition of this movie like they did with all Wong Kar Wai movies. I would totally buy it, even if it's overpriced. It's beautiful, everything about this movie is gorgeous, I feel sad that is not more recognized. Actually, I think that, one thousand years of lodging tried (and failed) to capture the charm of telling a story with this kind of visuals.
I own the blu-ray! Not only the color but the sound filtering in this movie is very minimal, raw, making a unique atmosphere, like just the background sound from the water fountain in the scene where Roy was with the captured princess was raw, unedited yet dreamy, like the sound of water you hear when you're half awake. This movie will be talked and appreciated by more people decades later.
I watched this movie when it first became available on DVD, most likely at Blockbuster. As soon as I was able, I bought a copy and have watched it faithfully every year. I loved your breakdown of it. It's one of the more touching movies I own and I especially love the little girl and her seemingly unrehearsed responses to questions in the film. They seem very candid, which makes her character appear all the more real to me. Thanks for the commentary. Well done, sir!
It's summer 2024 and I found it on FBOX.I'm still stunned, I live in Istanbul and jumped out of my chair when they ran through Hagia Sophia! Yes, gorgeous, absolutely riveting...now I'll watch your video.
Great explanation/ breakdown. This movie is free to watch in full 1080p on UA-cam. Just watched it tonight so it's still there as of late Oct 23. Lovely film, great storytelling and quite dark but gorgeously joyful and beautiful at the same time. A story told from a deeply hurt man but visually seen from the perspective of a child that's also been hurt and seen pain and suffering but she has that abundance of innocence and optimism so through her eyes we get his story of revenge and anger to one of salvation and rescue. Great movie.
This is favorite of all time. re-watchable but also heavy. This is the most buetifull movie I have ever seen. I had to watch it on some shady website but it was worth it
Very good explanation. I happen to have bought this one a few days ago on bluray.. 15 euros. Had it on DVD back when it came out after I saw the trailer and had to see it. Somehow it disappointed me back then but that was because I expected something it wasn't and me being younger wanted action fantasy.. But I think it's nearly a true masterpiece and that child actress is just adorable she did a great job and Lee Pace did a super job too I wonder why he isn't in more movies he's an impressive actor
Your George Lucas story about him changing Star Wars was Very insightful. I now truly understand why his fans were so upset. For me, I just rolled with the artistic reinterpretations.
I have three copies 1 from block buster, 1 reg DVD i got on sale at a resale store and 1 new HD DVD that I got before the price went up... I love this movie too much lol
When I clicked to watch this I was thinking that you were going to review The Cell with Jennifer Lopez. I was so confused for the first few minutes. However, The Fall looks amazing and I plan to keep an eye out for it.
Wonderful film beautiful in so many ways. If you have the original Netflix DVD mail exchange subscription, you can get The Fall through that service. I watched it 2 weeks ago and sent the DVD back. Query your older friends and find out who maintained their original Netflix. Suggest a viewing party.
You must be the last human left on earth that still uses the Netflix mailing system post pandemic. I didn't even know it still existed. You're a legend for this, Thank You!♥️
It’s gone now, but it was still hanging on a year ago. If you had a DVD checked out when it stopped you got to keep it. (I have a copy of The Outfit.) I was hoping some lucky stiff might have snagged The Fall.
The Cell is better. It's just cast with J-lo and that unfunny dude when he tried to be dramatic. Why does everyone ignore The Cell. I looked for it only because of him being Empire. I never liked his acting. Pushing Daisy's ruined it. Foundation brought it back. Thanks for video.

This is for you.

PSA: It's currently (that is as of now September 27th 2024) streaming on Mubi.

One of the most underrated and impactful movies I've ever seen.
This film is The Wizard of Oz of this era.
Shame this guy hasn't made anything near as good as this masterpiece
I was lucky enough for this movie to become one of my dads favorites back when it was on Netflix so he bought a copy before the price went insane
Great explanation/ breakdown. This movie is free to watch in full 1080p on UA-cam. Just watched it tonight so it's still there as of late Oct 23.

The most beautiful movie ever filmed ...
I own the blue ray and I was lucky enough to see this in a small local theater. I saw it twice in theater
Very good explanation. I happen to have bought this one a few days ago on bluray.. 15 euros. Had it on DVD back when it came out after I saw the trailer and had to see it. Lee Pace is definitely an exceptional actor. I think he loves theatre, and deep characters and there is not much of that in Hollywood, but who knows
I absolutely love this film
Streaming on MUBI now
100% agreed. Such a wonderful special movie. in my top 5. So incredibly inspiring.
Criminally underrated movie, honestly. It makes me cry like a baby tho, so I dont watch it often. Ill always watch it at least once a year though!
I got this dvd during the blockbuster closings when everytbing was on sale such a great find
That is a great find, you got keen eyes!
You can find the movie on youtube for some reason. One of my absolute favourite movies.
Your George Lucas story about him changing Star Wars was Very insightful. I now truly understand why his fans were so upset. For me, I just rolled with the artistic reinterpretations.
What an awesome film, truly one to treasure and watch again and again. Baffling how this film is not a mega seller ❤
you can actually find the full movie on UA-cam ;-) Just watched it.
I have three copies 1 from block buster, 1 reg DVD i got on sale at a resale store and 1 new HD DVD that I got before the price went up... I love this movie too much lol
Want to give me one?
This is my all time favorite movie.
When I clicked to watch this I was thinking that you were going to review The Cell with Jennifer Lopez. I was so confused for the first few minutes. However, The Fall looks amazing and I plan to keep an eye out for it.
Definitely worth looking out for.
So glad I bought this on itunes back in 2008
I bought this movie years ago when it came out. I have it on my iPad. Thankfully, it didn't cost that much back then!
I got an import dvd. Pretty good quality, better than not having it at all.
Best movie ever!!! Extraprdinary acting, just totally Amazing!!! A must see!

Here is the full movie, for anyone interested to watch.
Blocked by Sony
@@b2squared That's strange. For me it's not blocked at all.
Why is this movie so hard to find?
it's literally on youtube
Morphin3
visually a great movie but the story meanders and becomes boring. the kid was very cute.
This movie is not about story telling
It's literally a story being told and spun on as the film continues
The Cell is better. It's just cast with J-lo and that unfunny dude when he tried to be dramatic. Why does everyone ignore The Cell. I looked for it only because of him being Empire. I never liked his acting. Pushing Daisy's ruined it. Foundation brought it back. Thanks for video.
