Looking to start my masters program in the spring of 2025, masters in psychology. I am lucky to have a thorough background working in education. I came here for the information! I feel you on those school breaks throughout the school year.
Thanks for sharing your content and being honest. I will be starting my grad program in May and I am TERRIFIED 😂 I have been relying ALOT in your channel for insights.
Hi Tiffany! I'm finishing up my first year of grad school. Although I'm doing well in my classes, I feel like I don't know anything lol. Is this a normal feeling? I hope to learn more once I'm actually gaining experience in the field. Love your videos. They're so helpful!
Just to chime in, as someone who is finishing their 2nd year, I felt like the dots didn’t really start to connect until the end of my first year/beginning of my second year! I felt like I had these random tidbits of knowledge but had NO idea how to apply that knowledge, how these random tidbits connected, etc. Second year is when I started to connect the dots. I describe it as the first year gives you all these random puzzle pieces and you have no idea what the picture is, but the second year is when you start assembling them and seeing the big picture and how every piece connects. :)
@@WavingFan You described it perfectly! That is exactly how I feel. I know random pieces of information but have no idea how to apply it yet! This eases my anxiety. Thank you Lindsay! :)
I totally agree with Lindsay! I felt like I didn't really know what was going on until the second year and got to apply everything during prac and internship. There are still days when I have a ton of questions (and I feel like I don't know what I'm doing)
Is school counseling a good choice if you want to do a lot of emotional counseling? I have always wanted to work with high school students and help them have a plan for success or make sure their being heard. Is there some school psychology jobs that are looking for more counseling then testing?
i have some school psych friends who don't test at all and have a more mental health and SEL role in the school. it depends on your county and school so i recommend doing some research on areas that you're interested in! school counseling will give you a blend of academic scheduling + mental health
hello! so i’m about to be a freshman in college and i’ve been thinking more about my career, if I am more interested in the counseling aspect of psychology is working towards a masters in counseling psychology a better path for me than school psych? ive heard school psych is more so paperwork and not as much direct contact with clients
Yes, if you're interested in providing more counseling, I would look into counseling psychology, school counseling, marriage/family therapy, etc. There are so many options depending on your interests.
Thanks for you sharing and I love your vidios! I love psychology and working with kids and think school psychology might be right for me but I'm not stress resistant person or I get easily stressed and anxious I thought school psychology is better with this other than psychology fields ....what do u say about this?
Hmmmmm it depends on your school culture and job expectations imo. Any job can be stressful but this one requires you to work with others and work with deadlines. If you can fulfill your expected duties (evaluations, report writing, consultation, etc) and be a team player, you should be good to go!
thanks for watching! typically school counselor unless you have a special relationship with the student or the counselors are inundated. We will also see more high level need cases

I loved the vid. When you said about the extra 10 days before summer is that from the last day with students or does it start after the exams?
It's after the last day of school for students. Some districts don't require this but mine does and it's mainly for summer coverage
Thank you , I enjoy listening 😂

first off, I love your videos!
So when students seek counseling, do they go to the school psychologist or school counselor?
thanks for watching! typically school counselor unless you have a special relationship with the student or the counselors are inundated. We will also see more high level need cases
Oh…I have a question! Since teachers get most of the summer off, do school psychologist do also?
yes!!!
This is awesome :) thanks for sharing!
