    First, we put epoxy on our floor and it did not come out the way we wanted. We didn’t realize we forgot to seal the concrete till it was too late, so instead of looking like wet concrete, the epoxy pulled out all the browns and darker tones in our soon to be dining room. We have found a solution… WALLPAPER?! Yes. WALLPAPER! Come check out how this turned out!

    I saw a girl who did something similar a few years ago. She took all of these vintage news paper and magazine articles and epoxied them to her floor just like you did the wallpaper. Her articles were stuff like the moon landing in 1969 and vintage ads like the 1965 Ford Mustang or the 66 Chevy Corvette. Hers was very time consuming because she had to lay everything out just right. But your floor, it is oh so cool. A most excellent installation.

    You two are awesome!! I have never seen anyone use wallpaper on the floor with epoxy but I love the way it turned out!! You two are adorable & make me giggle while I watch (in a cute way, that’s good f9r the soul, mind you!) I have to show you guys to my hubby. We have always liked to do different stuff than the “normal way” & really enjoy watching the stuff you do. I know, we at one point we’re going to install a handmade counter or table top with some odds & ends on display with an epoxy top in our kitchen with a window box to make it look like It was sitting outside, of a corner restaurant or pub. Fast forward & that whole plan changed to our house being decorated kinda like a bar or eatery. It reminds me of that old song “I’m gonna hire a whine-o to decorate our home!” LoL. We are in our 50’s& not big drinkers anymore but have old beer signs and cigarette signs as well. My Grandfather & Uncle ran a bar in Joliet, Il when I was a kid. He loved Old Style & I was gifted the original Old Style sign from that bar, which is older than I am. We have moved recently & that Old Style sign was the first thing my husband bolted up to the wall. I don’t necessarily think I’m looking for a certain style but more a feeling from my home. ❤

    Spray a little soapy water before applying the wallpaper, then squeegee it out once it is in place. The water will allow you to slide the paper around until it is lined up, and also makes getting air bubbles out much easier.

    You can sand over epoxy with 600 sandpaper , before it sets up for a week , put another skim coat on and it will look like glass as long as you put a flame to it as you go , it wll also set up fast enough that bugs wont get stuck into it ! Love You guys and Woman !

    What a unique flooring look you've created! Well done indeed.
    The closest thing to what you've done that I've seen is painted floor cloths that were sometimes used in colonial-period homes. Canvas cloth would be attached to the floor with glue (usually hide glue since that was what was common in the 18th century) and then painted over in various patterns. This was done primarily to close the gaps between floor boards to help keep drafts, dirt and bugs out.
    Take care and God Bless.

    We did something similar years ago, but we used torn paper.. brown paper rolls like paper bag paper. We painted the floor first, used a 50/50 solution of Elmer's glue and water which served as our adhesive material. The Epoxy appears to be much better after watching your video, but we used moisture cured poly.. three layers, allowing it to dry completely between applications. It looked gorgeous (like mahogany) and held up incredibly well.

    • @denisewilson8367
      @denisewilson8367 11 місяців тому

      I've seen the paper bags, brown paper used. They wadded it up first, then flattened it out & used the same adhesive mixture. It looked like leather when done. I've seen colored construction paper, and stickers used too. If you allow exposure to dry between coats, you must sand each layer. But if you apply the next coat in less than an hour, you don't. It won't separate between layers bcuz of the chemical reaction. If you get air bubbles in the epoxy, take a small propane torch and fan the flame over the surface until the air bubbles pop. But keep the torch movin. You don't want to blister the surface.

    Holy smokes you guys! At first I thought OK, the heat has gotten to them and they lost their minds.... BUT, what a surprise. I always work nights (6p to 6a) at an air medical helicopter program for the health system in our area (I might have told you this). Much more peaceful in the hospital at night (except of course our flight requests and the Emergency Room/trauma center). So I feel bad for you guys because if you are not night owls, being up all night can be not so much fun. Now, your project! Wow! Like previous comment(s), I've used windex (or water) when applying vinyl trim/lettering to ambulances when I sold them and doing other projects like WALL paper. Anything to allow for sliding the material and as the water or whatever dries the wallpaper will be just fine. hahahaha I laughed a little because I was thinking that's why it's called "WALL PAPER" and not "FLOOR PAPER". BUT, this looks incredible. And when you think about it you could do this to many projects like counter tops, table tops, etc. Once all the furniture is in the room it'll look awesome, even though it looks cool without. You're right, this might get responses equal to the dry pour concrete projects! woo hoo! I love it! Stay cool.

    Neat idea. However, I have used the exact same clear sealer and it WILL yellow over the next few years if exposed to sunlight (UV). Suggest you consider sunblock film on the windows, or keep them closed as often as possible. I confirmed this with the manufacturer Rustoleum.

    Cool. I have seen several people do brown paper torn into random pieces then one side have a paste to stick it down.
    Epoxy over that and it also looks amazing. Straight edges along walls and all pieces overlapped. Diyffernt channel is one look
    up who did this.

    I think you should add another layer of epoxy and add some fine glitter to it as well after you apply the the last coat. I had that on my epoxy floors in out basement it was amazing. Makes the floor sparkle.

    Love the floor! I did a similar project years ago on mine. I did paper mache with brown butcher block paper. Made my floors look like leather. Very durable and we loved them.

    When you think of it, most vinyl flooring have coating like this for durability. You guys might be onto something new. Kudos to your imagination and the finished look.
