The fireplace is amazing. I so enjoy watching your dream home becoming a reality. But even more I love watching your WONDERFUL family. You daughter is so stinking cute and sweet. Love the cats and dogs too BUT you two have such an amazing chemistry together. God truly put you two together as lifetime soulmates. We need more families like yours in our world. It would be a much better place. Thank you for sharing a part of your lives with us. Can't wait to see the next one. John & Lori Smith Houston Texas

Awwww "CRICKETS"...LOLOL you two cracked me up on on this build. You two are just "unique" in the way you do things and that's GOOD!!! Just a suggestion: regarding the two corners of the fireplace platform I hope that somehow they are softened or rounded a bit when it comes to finishing them because they can be brutal if someone falls into them. You two are wonderful for sure when working together and I love the new hooters and joking around. God Bless you ALL.

Lydia saying LASSO nope my wife calls it ROPIN just like Jim said, I adopted the term, we have great news as our oldest Dawn was wed this morning. i walked her down the aisle and i wept a bit, Jim i know you will when you walk your baby girl down the aisle, the fireplace enclosure looks awesome, our barn/home had its last load of bits delivered last night, yay we are having the foundation poured for it and covering it with rocks to look like the cabin foundation. Just an idea how about putting a plywood back wall in the firewood boxes as to prevent firewood from punching holes in the drywall behind it, love the build, God bless, can't wait to see the finished results.

So glad to see you use fire caulk on all your seams.. please don’t forget the fire stop at the top of your chase on the inside I would’ve liked to have seen you. Blocks above and below your receptacles before you put the concrete siding on the inside but too late for that now and I see you have your insert in so unless you want to pull that back out and install your fire stop up top to prevent fire from spreading on the inside of your chase if you do, don’t forget to buy your caulk your seems.
Keep up the good work ….

Love the fireplace and the extra thought for a place to put the wood. I didn’t read all 270+ comments, lol… but in case no one already mentioned, tossing firewood into those boxes will destroy the back wall pretty quickly, especially if the back wall is still plain 1/2” wallboard. Suggest putting either cement board or plywood as the very back of your firewood storage areas! Since it’s after the fact, cut pieces to fit and use construction adhesive to hold it in. You could also add very small 1/2” x 1/2” trim around it if you really wanna make sure it stays there.
Also, sorry to hear about your friend.

The fireplace looks great. Did you encase the perimeter of the backside of the television nook with cement board and sealent? In addition, you may want to run a duct from outside to the fireplace for combustion air. If so don't forget the insect screen on the outside of the house to keep those unwanted critters from getting into the house. Love to all.
