@@Dowlphin Funny thing: It has a - of course not intended in the first place - explanation for that.
The Systems are not functioning with "Wires" in our 'Understanding (Copper & Electrons doing the wiggle in them).
It is a Hose containing a higly Volatile Plasma working as conductor.
Thus, shocks can break the sealing and thus cause discharges similar to electrostatic effects when reacting with the Air.
Smaller conduits as in Consoles just cause Static discharge, bigger can even cause a thermic fusionreaction and thus an "Explosion" - the ones similar to a High Voltage Cable..
@@Rabijeel Seems problematic enough, even more so for combat ships, to not use such technology for data/power transfer to consoles.

maybe because I'm a softie or maybe because I'm a parent, but this always gets me. I want to just hug the little guy and tell him it wasn't his fault. no one button pressed in isolation is going to blow up the ship, but he's a kid. he didn't know. to carry around that guilt while trying to grieve for your parents, that's a lot for anyone.
I always thought it was so brilliant having Data make the emotional connection. so cool.
The kid nailed this episode. That couldn't have been easy.
It's clearly Star Trek writing at it's best.

As soon as he said it was his fault for hitting the panel, my first thought was "no way you can just lean on or bump into a control panel on a star ship and do,...... well.........anything"

Some people are questioning why the Enterprise didn’t leave. First of all, it’s reckless to simply turn tail when your sensors aren’t functioning as they should. Secondly, this whole part of space is a mystery to be solved, especially if they wanna find a way to get the ship’s sensors working again, and third, did everybody forget that they came out here to discover the reason behind a ship’s destruction? And now it’s for a grieving boy who thinks he killed everybody. A thought like that would sit on a kid’s shoulders for a while and the guilt would tear them apart from the inside.
Reverse course. ... What if that leads to the fatality? ... Then come to a stop. ... What if that leads to the fatality? ... Then let's continue on. ... What if that leads to the fatality? ... Then let's neither decide to act nor decide not to act. ... (Q appears, furious: "You are not allowed to do that!!!") ... But are we not allowed to non-do that?

Holy cow this happened to me when I was a kid, I was at my aunt's house at night, there was a little closet with switches on the wall that said do not touch, I flipped the switch and instantly all the power everywhere went out. I always thought it was me 😢😂😅 consequently, I saw the most advanced dark outside that I've ever seen in my entire life. My eyes were completely useless.
